I use to mix with the big studio monitors and spot check in the "sh.. box" (Oratones or TV speakers).
But since I experienced working with Controle 1 my habit has changed. These speakers have a notorious habit of exagerate muddiness in the low mid area - muddiness that would sound like "body" in the big speakers. This "body/muddiness" will not show up in the sh.. box but will translate as muddiness in the real world and it is important to clean it up. The Control 1 do a wonderfull job of giving a good picture in that sense. Once I clean up the low mid in the Control 1, and go back to the big speakers, I find my mixes to be better balanced, better defined, puchier, and,.. warmer... yes warmer! Why is that? Explanation: The usual reflex when we find a sound source to be not well defined, is to cranck up the highs. If a mix has a muddy low mid, we try to compensate in the same way, making the mix harsh. If you clean up the muddiness where it occures (in the low mid) you will tend to less crank up the highs and the over all result will be a smoother yet crisp result. To give you an idea on how much I have come to trust these speakers, I will sometimes start the mix in the control 1 and spot check in the big ones! That is how usefull these speakers are. They are a great referance to carry with you when you are a freelancer because they are smaller and lighter than the usual studio reference monitor, and being smaller, they are less prone to be placement sensitive in regards to bass content. I recommend them strongly. (P.S sorry for my spelling, english isn't my first language)

I bought two of this for my home studio and they are excellent! It has a really good treble responce and the mids and lows are rich. The sound is full and they are able to handle a wide range of frequencies. They even handle a electronic drum, bass and a guitar at the same time which a found impressive because other sets of spekers cant handle that much sound without any distorsion but this can. And for simple music listening on my ipod they can deliver quality sound to almost any music style. The construction is also excellent and they seem to be built to last.
