Comments about JBL EON518S 500W 18" Powered Subwoofer:
I have a pair of JBL EON G2s (15") and thought they worked great for about 6 months. I couldn't produce the low end we needed so I got a pair of these to complete the system. All I can say is that the sound OPENED UP for the whole frequency range. It makes the G2s sound SO much better. No longer do they have to do all the work. Here is the key though, YOU NEED the dbx Driverack PX or PA to use these properly. Once the full system was set up, I have not had to turn a dial. Amazing at what you can get now with the built in and dedicated internal power. And with a great Amercian company like JBL, you can't go wrong.
Comments about JBL EON518S 500W 18" Powered Subwoofer:
I bought the 518's to go with a pair of EON 515's to replace an older passive system. Their best attribute is the convenience of the integrated amps and their portability. They are ridiculously light, but also pack a pretty good thump.I ordered the 515's and a pair of the 518S subs, but they arrived a day apart. When I got the 515's first, I tried them out by themselves and initially, I was really concerned about the output. They sounded really nice at low volumes, but if you boost the low frequencies and turn them up, they peak fairly easily. Bass eats up that 350 watts pretty fast.Once I got the subs and split the signal with the built-in high-pass filter, it was a different story. I ended up getting really nice and unexpected clarity and tone. Vocals and guitar were reproduced nicely - and at significant volume. This would not have been the case without the use of these subs.Based on my applications, the 518's produced all of the bottom end I needed, and had plenty to spare. It produced really thick and clean-sounding kick drum and bass, and even enhanced guitar and vocals.I would have liked to have seen a more detailed user manual. It's very basic. The 518's have a polarity switch, but the manual doesn't say much about it other than, "if the bass response isn't what you like, try flipping the switch" (basically). Doesn't explain what the polarity function is, or what flipping the switch does.Overall, I'm very pleased with these subs. They are a vital companion to the 515's.
Comments about JBL EON518S 500W 18" Powered Subwoofer:
For many moons I have been a Passive DJ. Passive in respect to the systems I own. I have the ability to use 4-L's in a tri-amp system of QSC's and break down to small, when needed, system with JBL 15 and a small QSC amp. I recently bought Mackie's a year ago and needed subs. I did my research and purchased 2 EON's to go with them. Bottom line, for venues of up to 450 people-- I killed them. I tested the EONs for 2 gigs this weekend and tried to push them out the box. They held their ground with no distortion. My Tri-amp system will now rest a very long time. PS:Friends who want to get more from this speaker should be using a passive system for a venue of 700 people or more -- keep it real!!
Comments about JBL EON518S 500W 18" Powered Subwoofer:
I returned it because I couldn't get it loud enough nor was the bass as deep as I wanted it. I'm a mobile weekend DJ and wanted a lightweight, powered sub that could fit under my DJ table, be easily moved, and would free up my Yamaha 512 mixer/amp to run 2 pairs of high end speakers (4 ohm load). Unfortunately, I couldn't get it as loud and deep as I wanted it. I wish the input gain on the sub had a little higher gain setting "11". Also, the lowest frequencies weren't any lower or more ground shaking than my current Behringer sub. If I didn't need the ground to shake, this would be an excellent mobile sub but for some one who really likes deep, ground shaking subsonic oomph, you may want to look elsewhere.
Comments about JBL EON518S 500W 18" Powered Subwoofer:
I recently bought the EON 518S and I love the item. The speaker sounds great and really enhances my performance. By purchasing the sub, I shed about 110 pounds of equipment. I am very happy with the weight of the EON sub. As a matter of fact, I can't believe that so much sound can come from something so lightweight. The built in crossover really makes a difference when the sub is paired with the EON 515 speakers. There is a substantial sound separation when you hook them all together. Did I mention that the speaker is also very good looking? My only disappointment is in the so called, "Rebate" offer. The wording is slightly deceptive and should be changed. I tried to contact Harmon Kardon, but they never responded. Poor customer service on their part.
Comments about JBL EON518S 500W 18" Powered Subwoofer:
I love the chest banging subs, so based on this, these subs are ok. Need to push em but they will work. But they are VERY LIGHT, so that is a big plus. I have used them in outside gigs. Everyone says the sound has been awesome and you can here the bass even at over 100 yards or more. Are they the best, no, but man when it comes to teardown they are a big plus. I run four of em with a mackie SRM450 for the top. I use the built in crossover at 120dB and things sound good.
Comments about JBL EON518S 500W 18" Powered Subwoofer:
I have the JBL EON G2's and wanted more bottom end. I had no idea this Subwoofer would be this great. I tested it out in the house and all the cabinets opened up. I didn't crank it too loud because I didn't want to break any windows! I never got it to clip either. The funny thing is as low as it played frequency wise, and as loud as it was, there was really good definition. I was really surprised. I plan to use it on Wedding Band and DJ gigs. It's incredibly light. That was one of purchase points. Most times I have no help with the gear and there are load in's with a million steps, so I needed something strong, dependable and light. It was worth every penny. I have no idea what the previous post was talking about. I guess he didn't read the manual.Have faith, it's JBL after all!

I just bought a pair of this EON 518 and I have used it with pair of EON 15 G2. I am happy with the design and weight but NOT with the sound quality and built compare to PRX51S8. Today I have returned and bought PRX548S.
