OVERVIEW

This Crown-powered earthmover won't compromise your sound.

The JBL MP418SP is a compact, powered, single 18" bass-reflex subwoofer system. It pumps 660W RMS per channel into 4 ohms or 400W RMS into 8 ohms. Designed for portable applications, the MP418SP speaker includes heavy-duty, 3" casters and ergonomically positioned steel carry handles to facilitate transport. Features a dual-channel Crown amplifier with signal processing. The first channel is dedicated to powering the internal 18" VGC woofer. The second channel may be used in one of 2 ways. In the "Sub + Sat" mode, it may be used with a full-range, passive speaker such as the MP410 for a single channel, 2-piece system. The second amplifier channel powers the satellite. In the "Sub + Sub" mode, the external amplifier channel is used to drive the MP418S (a passive version of the MP418SP). Stereo, high-passed line-outputs are provided to drive powered satellite speakers such as the EON15 G2 or an external amplifier/speaker system. Enclosure constructed of 7-ply, 18mm plywood and coated with JBL's exclusive DuraFlex.

I've played live with the Mackie SR1530/SRS1500 and with the EV Eliminator systems. This honestly blows them both completely out of the water! We just rented a pair of these & ran with a Mackie board & a dual-31 Behringer EQ w/sub out (no gates or compressors). We used the Crown CE2000 inside to power our JRX125s (dual 15s) on top. It was like bread & butter!!! We were able to achieve the absolute BEST live sound I've ever heard with this size of a system. Low ends PUNCHY & full -- mids & highs crisp & clean -- tons of overhead!!! (The sub-out feature on the Behringer EQ made a huge diference, however, but the routing options on this amp were outstanding!!!). We got huge compliments on the sound quality -- I can't say enough. I was planning on buying a pair of Turbosound 18's w/ QSC2450 amps, but now I've changed my mind & am going to spend the extra $ and get these JBLs. I've never been so "pumped" about a system (pardon the pun)!!!

Heat sink overheating

By Anonymous Musician-wm3.p

from Indiana

Jan 1,2006-I purchased my MP418sp about a year ago and very pleased with sound quality and the ease of set up. I did have a problem with the heat sink overheating when we played a outdoor gig. The temp was about 90 degrees but we were in a tent. The unit showed a fault and would not reset until the next day. I called JBL and they admitted this was a problem with the unit. My only thought might be if they new it way didn't they put a bigger fan in it or something. The unit has worked flawlessly on all indoor gigs.

Get what you pay for!

By Rick Gammon

After playing large clubs for years i sold all the old 80's plywood and particle board.I use 15 eon's on top of this sub. Th built in amp has ample power to push both top and bottom! My set up and tear down time was cut from 2.5 hours to 30 min. To all you guys spending half of your life setting up and tearing down, sell the old junk and spend the money for this system! How much is your time worth EVERY WEEK!!

JBL There is no substitute

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

I use 1 MP418sp with 2 MP412s on top. The internal power amp in the MP418sp powers all 3 cabinets. I play mostly outside venues and the sound is excellent. I sold all of my Mackie stuff. The JBL/Crown pro audio is superior to anything else in its price range. I use very little EQ, if any, on my individual tracks because the frequency response is a smooth 40 to 20K. I have plenty of headroom, so the sound stays clean. The sound has lots of punchy bottom end punch and detailed highs and mids. I've tried everything out there and I always go back to JBL. JBL for life!

Sweet Piece... Check for New Board

By DJ Rough House

from Kansas City

This amp is incredible! The only problem is that I purchased mine about two years ago and it went out right before a gig. Luckily, I could get by with just my other sub. I took it in to be repaired and was told that Crown made some cheaper boards a couple of years ago and that they were more apt to fry out. Fortunately, JBL in partnership with Crown have a 3 year no fault warranty. It was fixed and bumps the crowd every Friday and Saturday night! Put the 418 SP with a nonpowered one and you can't get much better than that!

Awesome sub!

By TastyThieves

Returned a set of EON G2s and now run a pair of Mackie SRM450s to this subwoofer. Tightest sound combination yet! Can't wait to get the passive 418'S to go with it.

Best combination with Crown Amp & speaker.

By Thebigman

Used on recent corporate tour with new custom JBL high packs, all powered by the internal Crown amps with only two boxes per side and it simply ruled.
