JBL's idea with the STX800 Series was to offer the professional touring musician or the enthusiastic hobbyist with a commitment to great sound an alternative to light-duty portable PA speakers without making the commitment to full-size line array tour sound systems. JBL's promotional literature for this series states its place in the market beautifully: "Our goals at the inception of this project were simple: Offer a high performance, high density system solution in a truck-pack friendly format. Develop concert-worthy floor monitors and side fills that could affordably complement any touring sound system. Deliver an affordable, great sounding subwoofer that could reproduce true low frequency at elevated sound pressure levels." The JBL STX818S 18" Bass Reflex Subwoofer is the low end foundation of this design concept.
The STX818S is a single 18" compact high power subwoofer system in a front-loaded, vented enclosure designed for minimum frontal area. It provides 1,000 watts of continuous pink noise power handling, 2 kW program and 4 kW peak. The STX818S also comes equipped with a top-mounted M20 pole-mount and an optional wheel kit.
The STXWhether you're in need of ancillary speakers for a full-blown tour sound system, ground-stacking for a live concert performance, installing speakers in dance clubs or performance venues, touring clubs with your band, or you are a performing mobile DJ, STX800 Series is the smart choice.

Comments about JBL STX818S 18" Bass Reflex Subwoofer:
This is the best sub I've ever owned! I have (from most recent to oldest) owned Yamaha DSR118, Yamaha CW118, Numerous Peavey Black Widow 18's in both front loaded and folded horn cabinets, and had some Cerwin Vega Folded Horns in the late 90's. Currently I'm working on upgrading my system from all Yamaha DSR to JBL STX stuff. This was my first purchase, and my God, the difference is unbelievable. I'm using a Yamaha 7000s power amp bridged on this one sub (about 1900rms from the amp) and the kick drum now literally punches you right in the chest. The low string on the 5 string bass is like freakin thunder, and super clean (you can distinguish each note with no problem). The perceived volume of this 1 sub up against both Yamaha DSR118's is literally at least double possibly triple, and there is no question that it shakes the room. First night out with it and the entire band and crowd noticed the difference. And best yet, the crowd wasn't complaining about volume, even though it was louder, it's very clean at very high volume levels. It also seems to be omnidirectional, when you're directly in front you can tell it's coming from the cabinet, but you loose very little volume from the sides. We set them up in front, and even behind them, on stage, they presence of this one sub was night and day. I plan to buy a Crown XTI4002 to replace the current yamaha power amp for a bit more umph out of it, and I will be purchasing another one as soon as I have my DSR's sold. I would highly recommend this sub, even if you can only afford one, it is worth it!!!
