Allows unlimited overdubs with tons of effects, rhythms, and even a chromatic tuner.

Let the KORG SOS Sound on Sound Unlimited Track Recorder capture and preserve all of your inspired moments. Completely self-contained, the KORG SOS allows an unlimited number of overdubs, delivers generous effects, provides dozens of rhythms, and is even a handy chromatic tuner.

Unlimited recording tracks = limitless possibilities
KORG Sound on Sound is a handy-sized multitrack recorder that lets you play back your song while continuing to overdub more parts. You can overdub as many times as you like, without having to worry about running out of tracks. Pick a rhythm, chop out some guitar chords, lay down a vocal, add some harmonies, and play a solo”or 2, or 3, or 50. With the KORG SOS recorder, the possibilities are endless. Used as a sketchpad, Korg Sound on Sound preserves all of your musical ideas, from complex themes to inspired snippets and phrases.

KORG SOS saves each overdub individually
KORG SOS saves as individual WAV files. You can load each overdub directly into nearly any DAW software program as an individual track. The individual files are BWF (Broadcast Wave Format) compliant, meaning they contain timing information. So if you had overdubbed a track in the middle of the song, it will automatically align correctly in a BWF-supported DAW. You can also use the Finalize operation to automatically time-align each overdub track. KORG Sound on Sound records at 44.1 kHz/16-bit resolution, and saves recordings onto a convenient and reliable microSD or microSDHC card.

Unlimited undo/redo
KORG Sound on Sound is capable of an unlimited number of undo/redo operations. This is great when you are recording alternate takes of a guitar solo, for example. You can set the KORG SOS to keep all of the undone recordings. Move all of your recorded tracks”even undone tracks”to a computer-based DAW system, and then choose the best take. Note: The unlimited undo/redo is limited by the capacity of the installed microSD/SDHC card.

Loop recording
The KORG SOS recorder's A/B Loop function can repeatedly play back a specified section of the songs”a great way to practice your instrument or build up your song. In addition, you can even record while looping, creating results similar to a looper effect.

Sound Stretch
This powerful feature changes the playback speed without affecting the pitch. Sound Stretch can be used during playback or during recording. You can record a difficult passage at a slow speed and then return playback to normal speed. Likewise, you can slow down the entire sound during playback. Set the playback speed anywhere from 25% to 150% of the original speed.

100 powerful KORG effects
Powered by KORG's proprietary REMS modeling technology, the SOS recorder provides 100 effect choices, including effects for electric guitar (such as amp modeling), acoustic guitar, vocals, or any instrument. The effect can be applied as you record, or added to a previously recorded track. In the Master position, the effect can be applied to the entire song. Effects are divided into Guitar, Mic, Master, and Touch. This last category controls effects in real time, using the KORG SOS recorder's touchscreen display.

¢[GTR]: 36 types of KORG modeled guitar & bass effects
¢[MIC]: 25 effects designed for acoustic sources using a microphone - vocals, acoustic guitar, etc.
¢[MST]: 32 Master Effects, suitable for adding to a recorded song, or when recording a line input source (such as an external MP3 player)
¢[TCH]: 7 Touch Effects, controllable in real-time using the display

On-board rhythms
The SOS recorder's rhythm function is convenient when recording your phrases and ideas. It can be used as a tempo guide or to create a rhythm backing. Fifty rhythms (each with four variations) cover a broad range of styles. Simply choose a pattern and set the tempo. The touch screen allows you to select one of four variations to change the complexity of the pattern

KORG tuner technology
Now you can always be in tune when you record. Guitar, Bass, and Chromatic digital tuners are built in to the KORG Sound on Sound. The calibration range is adjustable from 435Hz to 445Hz.

High-quality stereo mic / Internal monitor speaker
A high-quality stereo condenser mic is securely mounted inside the KORG Sound on Sound, providing a broad frequency response that realistically captures the sound of acoustic instruments. You can adjust the Tone, Low Cut, and Noise Gate settings of the input sound. The input level can be set manually or automatically. An external microphone jack is also provided. The dedicated guitar input lets you connect your guitar directly to the SOS. A line input for an external audio device is also provided. The monitor speaker lets you review your recording on the spot, without requiring any additional equipment.

Easy-to-use modern design
KORG Sound on Sound features a wedge shaped design that's easy to use whether held in your hand or placed on a desk. All the buttons are laid out on the top surface for intuitive operation. The innovative display provides a clear indication of the KORG Sound on Sound's current functions and settings. The touchscreen display allows realtime access to song playback position, level adjustment, effect parameters, and rhythm patterns simply by touching your fingertip directly to the screen.

Battery powered portability
KORG Sound on Sound can operate for up to ten hours using two AA alkaline batteries. It can also be used with an AC adapter (sold separately).

I can't understand why a recorder with this much to offer would not include a simple USB connection for downloading your work to a flash drive or computer. Missing that is the killer.

    Korg Tickles Our Minds Again

Comments about Korg Sound on Sound Unlimited Track Recorder SR1:

I think people are a little turned off by the "Sound On Sound" recording method. This unit acts exactly like a multitrack recorder. There's a bit of a learning curve, but once u get it down - it's tons of fun.
I record on the go (parks, airports, anywhere). The SOS makes recording easy and perfectly portable. I record and set levels accordingly so I can mixdown directly from the SOS. For those who need DAW options, you can download the data from the SOS memory card into a DAW and mixdown the tracks individually. I haven't tried that yet - I dig the sound from the SOS direct.
Now - the taste test. I haven't recieved any complaints about SOS' sound quality. I've been engineering sound for 25 + years and only pro musicians ask me what I recorded on or cry about sound quality.
Seriously - No recording device is just a scratch pad. SOS could be your portable recording space station. Let your creativity soar!
There's many features built into this little guy... Read through the specs carefully. You'll be suprized.
On board small condenser mics (tiny) great effects (delay, ring mod, reverbs, distortions, amp emulations...) Guitar Tuner, touch screen, recording pitch control and let's not forget the percussion/drum machine stuff... Man - It's a little plastic powerhouse.
I was immediately impressed by the sound quality. I record synths, drum machines, samples, etc. via the 1/8" line inputs. The sound reproduction is very good and if you add effects it's even better. Korg's effects have always produced great sounds Plus - the onboard effects can be edited. Yipee. I used the onboard mics once or twice.. They're adequate & did sound better when blended with effects.

**The build quality is just O.K. The chasis is made of plastic with some metal shielding. The unit itself is very light... I think it's a little too fragile - i recommend getting a small hardcase or camera case to protect it. Now - this is NOT a negative, just be careful handling the SOS. The touchscreen is really cool, and there's LED's for operation, signal clipping, etc.
SOS - It's a great value for the money. The features blow away the competition (4 and 8 track units)

    Pleasantly Surprised

Comments about Korg Sound on Sound Unlimited Track Recorder SR1:

I am very happy with my recent purchase. There is a slight learning curve with it, but it only took me a few minutes to read the manual and figure it out. I can see some people having some problems with it, mostly people who have difficulty working their phone or computer. I can't recommend this more for people who want to record on the go (like at lessons or rehearsals).
My favorite part of this recerder is that I can layer as many tracks as I want! There is a tuner, rhythm box, and metronome as well. The only downside is that there isn't a USB port to plug into the computer. That might bother some people, but my laptop has a card reader built into it, so there is no problem for me. It even came with 2 AA batteries in the box. Awesome.
This is a great little electronic. The sound is wonderful. I was recording ambient noise at the park, and when I went home to listen to it, it sounded like I was right there at the park! It was amazing. It is sturdy and easy to haul around to lessons, rehearsals, and concerts. It picks up music wonderfully.
I think it is a wonderful price. I was looking at some other options in this price range and I couldn't find one with as many features and the track layering capabilities.

Could be better if it had a USB port. You have to remove the card to transfer music to and from the unit. Sound quality is excellent.

    My new sos Korg recorder

    By Garry Hall

Comments about Korg Sound on Sound Unlimited Track Recorder SR1:

I find it hard to understand the instruction booklet that came with it.
At 1st I couldn't understand the written instructions in the booklet there are about 57 pages to go over. I found some videos on youtube that helped me a little. On a scale of 1 to 10, I am about a 3 at the moment but THE RECORDING SOUND IS VERY PROFESSIONAL. I am amazed at the sound this produces , with a cord adapter I can plug it right into my P.A. or us a small computer sound system, ALL IN ALL I RATE IT AT CUTTING EDGE, My last song I did had 22 tracks in it and it sounded awesome, A very fantastic recorder.
Probably the best portable recorder on the market. I know musicians that have paid $$$$$ for that kind of studio sound !!!

Cool, but Korg must come clean about its useability

    By Marc Godino

    from LA, CA

Comments about Korg Sound on Sound Unlimited Track Recorder SR1:

    Not bad
    OK but noisy
Beware that despite Korg's instructions that expressly state that headphones are not required for this device, that is FALSE. If you record a part and next try to overdub a vocal or acoustic insturment using the internal microphone, you will NOT be able to hear the originally recorded part without headphones. So if you see yourself singing multiple vocal parts in this device using the internal microphone and without headphones, do not buy this device.

Comments about Korg Sound on Sound Unlimited Track Recorder SR1:

I am a singer/songwriter and was shopping around for something to capture my ideas. I ran across this and decided to give it a try. After learning the how to operate this unit, is awsome. Not only can you keep adding tracks to your song, it does it with great clarity. I bought this unit just for scratch ideas, but after recording a couple of songs and playing them on my car speakers, I am actually thinking about mastering a cd from this unit and see how it turns out. The ONLY complaint I have about the unit is that it does not come the electric adapter. I have already gone through 4 sets of batteries.

Comments about Korg Sound on Sound Unlimited Track Recorder SR1:

This device has a massive amount of features but the manual is basically useless. The few tutorials are missing steps and I am suspecting it is intentional. It does not even clearly explain how to even format the card. All of these super mini studios come out and then disappear for lack of sales. Either The engineers at the manufacturer understand that they are digital and if they make it easy to use they are out of a job or do not know how to make instructional materials. Either way, unless you want to spends unending hours and hours of trial and error and frustration it will end up a door stop. I have a University degree in guitar and a BS in pharmacy and also worked in an instructional materials musiic library for years .It aint me and the fact that an unlimited track recorder with unending effects and drum patterns for under 200 has been dc'd it is not the product it is the company support staff has undermined the product by not providing pedagogically sound approach for learning how to use it. They dc'd the boss 80. The same thing. I found someone who wrote a blog on the boss 80 who did not give up and it took him 2 years of playing with it before it was a usefull tool.
