OVERVIEW

10" passive monitor at a working musician's price.

The Kustom KPX 110M passive monitor cabinet packs a lot of value into a compact, affordable package. This full-range cabinet offers fantastic audio quality. A specially voiced crossover maintains clear separation of frequencies for crisp detailed sound reproduction. The cabinet's 10" woofer delivers punchy low frequencies, while the horn reproduces all the clear high tones. The KPX110M is equipped with two parallel input/output jacks which allow additional passive cabinets to be connected (do not connect to powered speaker cabinets). The KPX series has been designed to withstand years of active duty with sturdy metal grilles, stout handles, and a high quality, heavy-duty finish. The cabs also offer 30, 60, and 90 positioning, along with a 1 3/8 pole mount insert.

This is a competent floor monitor for vocals in a smaller portable PA.

My main PA speakers are a pair of EV SxA360s on top of EV SB2A/SB122 subs. Not big, but certainly loud for its size. This monitor works OK at this level.

I would not consider using this as a main PA speaker for any application.

Its frequency response and power rating makes it good for vocals only. With its 150W peak power rating, I'm afraid that at a suitable volume for vocals, a bass drum thump might shoot the voice coil right out of the speaker. It is efficient enough for decent vocal SPL at low power. The piezo horn? I don't like them at all, but its acceptable in this rig. The cabinet is well made and compact. The empty cabinet is worth the sale price.

I bought this on sale to try it out and will buy more if it goes on sale again. I would not consider paying the full price for it. 5 stars for its VALUE on sale.

Comments about Kustom PA KPX110M 10" Passive Monitor:

These monitors seem to have a much better build quality than the lower end monitors that Kustom makes. Sounds very good....does exactly what it is supposed to do.

Comments about Kustom PA KPX110M 10" Passive Monitor:

I was impressed from the moment I pulled them out of the box. They looked great and appeared to be very well built. I plugged them into my sound system along with my Peavey PR 12s for comparison, plugged in a CD player and played several styles of music through them at a relatively high volume.

The first thing I noticed was the clear, punchy midrange (in the 400 to 2kHz region) that was very smooth and musical. By comparison, the PR 12s are lacking in this area and need moderate amounts of EQ to match the Kustoms.

Next, I focused on the lows. Of course you'd expect more bass from the 12" Peavey than the 10" Kustom, and that was the case, but as I boosted the low EQ on the Kustoms I was amazed when not only did it closely match the Peaveys, but did so without distorting in the least, as far as I could hear!

However, the Achilles heel is the piezo high frequency horn. Don't get me wrong – it doesn't sound bad, but it's nowhere near as sparkly and hi-fi as the PR 12's titanium driver.

Bottom line is, if you need some monitors for a not-so-loud band or main speakers for a small venue, you absolutely can't go wrong with a pair of these. They are well worth twice the asking price!

Comments about Kustom PA KPX110M 10" Passive Monitor:

Wasn't looking for Meyer Sound Quality or something wicked expensive. I just had a need for our rehearsal room in our house to have a decent pair of pa speakers that took up a small footprint. When these showed up for MF's Stupid Deal of the Day, boom! clicked! Bought!

Comments about Kustom PA KPX110M 10" Passive Monitor:

I recently used this passive monitor with a full PA for a gig for the first time, and I could not be happier with the result. The sound was clear and crisp, and it was a great improvement from our earlier attempts to coordinate the levels of four independent boutique acoustic amps (Fishman, 60 watt, two channel). The monitor in conjunction with the PA made the gig all that much better. I recommend it.

There is a less expensive Kustom model that seems to offer the same specs, but the case is a little more bulky. I do not know which offers the better value, but I am pleased with my purchase.

At 75 watts these are ok for small, relatively quiet acts. We have a four-person ptimarily acoustic group, they work well for that.
