I also own Sonar 8.5 producer which is superb, but it has alot steeper learning curve. I use the Lexicon Lambda almost everyday now because of the simplicity of its controls, and save the Sonar for real big projects.
Midi,Mic,Line,Monitor inputs/outputs....barebones but very adequate for beginning to intermediate audio idea sketching/demo production. Cubase4 works fine and is even capable of some audio/video production. I run it on a pentium 4 HP pavillion with only 1 Gig of RAM and the processor is barely working on small 8-16 track projects. Mind you this is not a pro machine by any means, but it is quite well suited for anyone interested in getting into computer recording.
Build seems solid and all parts were in box when it arrived. Loaded software, plugged in unit and was recording,mixing and playing back in less than 30 minutes.
For the price whats not to like !

I love the feature set which makes recording easy (no fiddling with things on the computer side, it's all controlled by actual physical knobs, and it has MIDI in/out too), but the preamps are noisy and don't do a good job of amplifying the inputs. Expect to need a mixer to drive the line inputs to get sufficient volume into your DAW, plugging your mikes into the XLR ports won't get you sufficient volume without maxing out the volumes, which in turn gives way too much noise with the noisy preamps. Also, the phantom power isn't actually 48v and won't do a good job of powering most condenser mikes. Again, need a mixer. I've finally managed to kill the preamps in mine after two years (forgot to reset the volume on my mixer down, it was set for going into a PA, and the magic smoke came out of the Lambda) and need to buy another product (it's not worth fixing this thing). I am *not* buying another Lambda, I'm going to buy something with better pre's.

This device came with Cubase software. I cannot activate the software. Steinberg was supposed to send me an activation code but says I have no license. Musician's Friend won't let me exchange it because it is software. I have had good expierience dealing with MF in the past and will probably still deal with them. Just not for a while.

I believe the poor drivers were responsible for this unit constantly arguing with my computer.
Inputs for Mic, Midi, line in and instrument.
This unit had some good features, but way too many problems. I had problems with static, a high-pitched hum, latency and mysterious crashes. I'm happy to finally be able to afford to replace it. I rated it a 3 because when it did work, it was fine.

i bought this mabye a year ago to lay down some basic recording. Now that i want to add more effects and do more serious mixing.. major latency issues.. you are better off getting the Tascam 122 0r 144. they are usb 2.0.... and yes it makes a big difference!!!!!

Okay, so the lambda has served me well for about four years now. When I first started, I was interested in only recording acoustic guitar, and vocals, maybe two to three tracks per song, max. And in this environment, the Lambda is really quite okay. But, once I got into recording more high quality stuff, it slowly lagged behind. This interface is simply not cut out to record songs that are going to have many tracks, and have many effects in them. If you want to, you'll have to adjust the buffer to where the lag in recording will be too much, and it will become unusable. The preamps are quite noisy, and after a while, the control pots will get scratchy and noisy as well. But, it is after all cheap.

I've had this thing for about 2 years and well, it's been a real let down from the get go. I mainly got it to record guitar and keys, which it does fine. I recently acquired some mics and wow, what horrible pres. Noisy, and one of them didn't even work! I had to build my own pre to have any sort of gain control. The only way to get sufficient volume is to use a TS cable between the insert and line in to boost the levels to usable. But unfortunately when you do this, you also amplify all the noise present in this device. Not good for vocals or micing anything, but great for guitar or keys. The MIDI is okay, it gets the job done, but sometimes it ghost notes. You'd be better off getting something else for a little more money. Don't let the Lexicon name fool you, this is not the same quality of product as their more expensive effects units. Bottom line this is a cheap interface, and I don't mean the price.

I've had this interface now for 3 years and one day I discovered a glaring problem: the 48V phantom power did not work. I bought a mic that required phantom power and the Lambda just wouldn't pick up the audio signal. Infuriating. Anyhow, aside from that, it's been an adequate interface. I still wish I had bought something that was more reliable- now I have to route my mic through this ancient mixing board that has phantom power and then back into the lambda. Very inefficient.

I've had this unit for over a year and have no problems with it. Works fine with what I use which is Logic Studio. I've never had a problem with it as I said, but might upgrade to something else soon. I would recommend it. Although I have seen that some other reviewers have had problems with it. I did have problems with it when I used the Cubase, but when switched to logic Studio, I never had a problem with it.

Had it over a year with no problems. I've learned that if you treat your equipment right it will last you a lot longer. Phantom power is a great feature, output for monitors is also great. I've noticed that I really have to crank the gain when recording, but it could be the DAW or the mics I use. Overall a great buy.
