OVERVIEW

5" near-field studio monitors with acoustic space control.

The BX5 Carbon studio monitor helps you track, monitor, and mix with confidence by providing accurate sound and dynamic acoustic control. Equipped with a 5" woven Kevlar low-frequency driver and 1" natural silk dome tweeter, the BX5 Carbon delivers a flat frequency response, enhanced stereo imaging, and increased clarity for authentic mixing in a space-saving design. The bi-amplified 70 Watt Class A/B amplification means high power with less noise and ensures that your monitoring setup can handle today's modern music with ease. With the BX5 Carbon, your music is ready for any listening environment.

Sweeter Sweet Spot
The tweeter's waveguide has been enhanced to provide an expansive sweet spot and superior stereo imaging. A wider mix position gives you professional monitoring for any caliber studio. Pinhole-mounted LED placement cues help locate and light up the sweet spot to ensure a speaker placement that reliably translates stereo information and frequencies. When the LEDs turn bright, you know you're dead center and ready to start mixing your sessions or laying down tracks with the BX5 Carbon.

Acoustic Control
Mixing doesn't occur in a vacuum. Your listening environment influences your mixing decisions and, ultimately, the sound of your music. The BX5 Carbon's Acoustic Space Control, a series of calibration switches, helps provide optimal acoustic conditions for tracking, mixing, and monitoring anywhere. Adapt the BX5 Carbon to any mixing environment-from bedrooms to basements to professional studios-without compromising frequency detail or stereo image. The result is a flexible monitoring setup for the most demanding mixing environments.

Comments about M-Audio BX5 Carbon Black Studio Monitor (Each):

I bought a pair as a gift for my son who is getting started with his home studio. I've been using a pair of these since they were initially released about 2 years ago. They suited my needs so well that I bought him a pair for Christmas.

They have a good, flat sound which is what i want in studio monitors. They have plenty of power for a home studio and the 5" woofers along with the cabinet design provide a good bass. My son records guitar and vocals for what might be called alternative christian rock. I create orchestral music and the monitors work well for both genres.

The following suggestions are not shortcomings of the monitors, but are good practice in general for any studio monitors.I do recommend getting better isolation padding if you are going to place them on a desk. You really want to eliminate sympathetic vibrations from the surface of the desk. Also if you place the on a wall, consider putting sound treatment on the wall behind the monitors to keep the sound as flat as possible.

Comments about M-Audio BX5 Carbon Black Studio Monitor (Each):

I got these to upgrade from the Minimus 7/Yamaha sub system I have used successfully for many years, and am very happy with them so far. The minimice were totally awesome reproducing vocals, and these sound just as realistic in that range, and a bit better in the higher and lower ranges. The bass is more rounded than I expected, and the treble is very smooth, and not over-hyped. I regularly play with a friend who has the KRK Rockit 5s, and these sound every bit as good. My studio space is fairly small (13' x 20'), and these fill it with sound, and sound the same from 10 feet away as they do up close. And, of course, that they take so much less space than my former amplifier/speakers/sub set-up is a giant plus!

Comments about M-Audio BX5 Carbon Black Studio Monitor (Each):

I have these monitors. I bought them over a year ago at about twice the price At the price here they are a ridiculous value. They have a nice, flat sound, plenty of power, good bass - they meet my studio needs perfectly. I tried a bunch of 5" powered monitors in person before I purchased these. They are good enough that the local Guitar Center has them hooked up on all their studio and keyboard demo units.

Note that they are real near field monitors so they need to be positioned so you are in the center of the field. There is an LED that helps - it gets dim if you are not in the field center. Because they are near field monitors they aren't really intended to perform as full room speakers although they'll do in a pinch.
