Check out M-Audio's forums for "Profire 610 random sample offset bug." This is a driver problem that has been verified by M-Audio 2 years ago and a fix has not been given to windows users yet. This bug causes the sampling rate to shift constantly which results in recorded audio being shifted slightly ahead or behind of the intended recording time. A mac fix was realeased about 18 months later. No word on if or when a fix for the windows fix will be released.

Great for PC Based Home Studio

Features:

I purchased this unit for use with my 64 Bit Windows based PC.  I have an intel i7 processor with 18 gig of memory and the stock Asus Motherboard Firewire Port.  I use Sonar X1 Producer as my DAW, I have Native Instruments Komplete 8 and EastWest Hollywood Brass and Hollywood strings.  I am not a professional grade studio by any means but I feel like I get some pretty amazing results from what I have.  This unit is very much a part of that.  I love the Octane pre-amps and for an interface in this price range I have no complaints whatsoever.

Quality:

I am aware that there is limited mac driver support which is really too bad, and a bit surprising considering this is a FireWire interface.  My experience using it with a Win7 PC has been fantastic though, so I have to rate it at a 10.  If you have a mac, you may want to verify that they have developed a driver for your specific system.  Just do your homework.

Value:

Great Bang for your buck and a overall great experience.  I'd recommend this interface to any home studio enthusiast.

Overall:

I'm very pleased.  This unit performs well and is extremely easy to use.  I have had it for almost 2 years now and I haven't had a single problem with it.  I recommend it to anyone who is looking for the the best interface in this price range.  I'd issue the slight Mac user beware, but other than that, it is great!

features look really great on this unit. Unfortunately, it isn't compatible with my brand new Mac. I tried returning for a new unit and each time it wouldn't connect to the Mac. M Audio support was horrendous, and it was only through searching user forums that I found out the trouble I was in. Very dissapointing

Recently purchased the Profire 2626 interface which has many very cool features... (You hear a "but" coming, right?) This is a unit that has not been on the market very long.  I use it in conjunction with a Mac Pro Tower and Mac OS 10.6.4.  That is.. I wanted to use it.  However, Avid has failed to update the drivers to accomodate this configuration. Thus, I now have a paper weight.  If they would fix this, I'd be happy to retract my comments.

For a 1 man home recording set up this interface is a great choice. It works really well with all my instruments and mics and there's never been any noise or latency issues, and firewire is overall a better choice for recording over usb. The mic pre-amp is great with my nt1a and the onboard software mixer is easy to use and the drivers are as stable as they come. Highly recommended as it's the best firewire interface in that price range. Enough ins/outs for a comfortable home/mobile studio.
