I have had 8 years experience mixing live sound, but very little experience in a studio enviroment. I heard a pair of M-Audio stuido reference speakers used as a live sound auxilary reinforcement for speaking and was impressed with how quiet they were. They were also seemingly quite durable as they were set up each week for meetings. These speakers are a great price, and now that I've used them as computer speakers, they have a great frequency response, with a smooth sound, and they have almost no hiss or hum. There is a problem , though, as mentioned by others, with the connection to the auxilary speaker. The problem is the connection between the connecting cable and the resceptacle on the back of that speaker. All you have to do is wiggle it around to reconnect, and I've only lost connection once (the 2nd day I owned it, and I've owned it for 1 month). Considering the quality, and clarity at higher volumes, and the price, it's worth messing with the connection. Don't expect much bass from these speakers, but together with a sub, I like them. I took one star off for the connection issue. Considering the fine build of these speakers, M-Audio should already have resolved the connection issue.

Here's the deal...After reading many reviews on this product, I thought I'd share my own. I read a lot of reviews saying how horrible the sound is and that you can't use them for mixing down on a recording project--I'd have to say that is dead wrong. Unless you're writing something fully electronic that requires a lot of bass, then these are fine. If you are like me and writing metal, while on a serious budget, then they work. I used these to write/record a split album. However, I would not suggest buying these for any purpose. They took dump within just a couple years. First, the little plastic plate in the front left speaker completey pulled out from using the Aux. input and so I literally had to take the entire speaker apart and push the crappy Aux/Phones ends back through to the plate and super glue everything back together. Then the right speaker started going out shortly thereafter. Now the right speaker is completely dead. They served their purpose and I think they sound okay, but spend a little more money or buy something else. Sorry M-Audio, you FAIL.

Comments about M-Audio StudioPro 3 Desktop Audio Monitors:
Great monitors for desk top sound. Good bass and clarity. I just wish the audio connections for MP3/Ipod input and aux input were seperate. You have to use one or the other while connected to a seperate device. Other than that, great product!

Comments about M-Audio StudioPro 3 Desktop Audio Monitors:
I got these to use in my home studio as laptop monitors. They do the job very well. Even though there is not a lot of bottom in them the do give a good "picture" of the sound as you would hear it from a laptop or pc.

Comments about M-Audio StudioPro 3 Desktop Audio Monitors:
The 1st thing to get your head around is that these are NOT professional studio monitors (despite what the packaging says)! These are desktop computer speakers that are good for listening to music while you geek out. I have these hooked up to my laptop which I do most of my life admining on. I would not use these for any sort of real referencing or for mixing but they can serve a purpose as a computer speaker sanity check station. If you want real monitors for real mixing, spend real money. If you want to buy a decent prosumer computer desktop speaker system, this is a value worth considering for a birthday present or for asking Santa to bring for christmas.

Comments about M-Audio StudioPro 3 Desktop Audio Monitors:
I have a set of larger M-Audio monitors in my studio, and I like their sound. These were offered as a "Stupid Deal" at a very reasonable price. They are a good improvement over typical computer speakers, but lack a strong low end. I feel that I got what I paid for. I don't abuse my equipment, so I expect them to last for years. I play CDs and videos through my computer and find these speakers to be very acceptable. For the price, I wasn't expecting a true studio monitor.

Comments about M-Audio StudioPro 3 Desktop Audio Monitors:
Even though there were some bad reviews, I found the M-Audio Studiopro speakers a good value for the money. The sound was crisp and the image good. They are weak below 100Hz but you can compensate with the bass boost or add a subwoofer. They are actually cleaner sounding without enhancing the bass.

This speaker was a great deal and turned out to be a really great small reference speaker to check mono and check for how music will sound on smaller devices that have no low end output. I'm going to keep them.

Comments about M-Audio StudioPro 3 Desktop Audio Monitors:
As an amateur recording artist and general music lover, I have always wanted a set of higher-end speakers for my projects and for regular listening, and these speakers are an excellent place to start. For such a comparatively low price and easy setup, they offer versatility and truly fantastic audio quality over a wide range of frequencies.

Comments about M-Audio StudioPro 3 Desktop Audio Monitors:
I needed a small pair of monitors for my home studio to mix with. These speakers are just fine for that use until you decide you want them real loud. While powered, they don't get super loud. This makes them a bit of a niche product - and I think that's why some people have left negative reviews. My guess is that some people are trying to use them for home entertainment or public performance and they are not correct for that application. I found the sound to be very neutral and uncolored when I used the included isolation pads and angled risers.
