M-Audio

M-Audio fidelity in portable active desktop monitors that won't break the bank.

M-Audio StudioPro 3 active desktop monitors offer powerful amplification, custom-tuned cabinets, optimized speaker design, and advanced crossover technology for the best possible sound. Magnetic shielding prevents StudioPro 3 audio monitors from interfering with your computer or video speakers.

Stereo Auxiliary Input and Headphone Output
In addition to the main RCA inputs in the back, for maximum flexibility the StudioPro 3 monitors' stereo aux input makes it easy to plug in a secondary audio source—such as your portable music player. The speakers' volume control works on both inputs simultaneously. Additionally, a stereo headphone output next to the aux jack mutes the speakers' sound and redirects it to your headphones.

Natural Bass
The M-Audio custom bass reflex port discharges very low-frequency signals and delivers smooth, substantial bass response. Need more? The rear-panel bass boost gives you additional low-frequency gain and makes the StudioPro 3 monitors flexible enough to perform well for different spaces and listening preferences.

Monitor Pads
High-frequency audio signals tend to be fairly directional. That's why M-Audio includes wedge-shaped monitor pads that assist you in placing your M-Audio StudioPro 3 units directly at your ears for an optimal listening sweet spot.

Speaker Enclosure
M-Audio StudioPro 3 speakers provide a more stable performance with a special medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and unique interior reinforcement that absorbs vibration and impact generated under extreme conditions. Carefully placed acoustic material makes StudioPro 3 monitor's sound much bigger than they are—resulting in smooth, natural bass response.

M-Audio includes a pair of angled isolation pads with each set of StudioPro 3 desktop audio monitors.

The 1st thing to get your head around is that these are NOT professional studio monitors (despite what the packaging says)! These are desktop computer speakers that are good for listening to music while you geek out. I have these hooked up to my laptop which I do most of my life admining on. I would not use these for any sort of real referencing or for mixing but they can serve a purpose as a computer speaker sanity check station. If you want real monitors for real mixing, spend real money. If you want to buy a decent prosumer computer desktop speaker system, this is a value worth considering for a birthday present or for asking Santa to bring for christmas.

These are really nice monitors; if your a novice to home recording. If your just getting started or have limited space, then these speakers work well. They have a flat response (which is what you want), but lack fidelity and have limited bass response. But, they're great for folks such as myself who just want to get their feet wet and do some non-professional home recording. They come with some nice stands and vibration pads. They are easy to set-up and they are just right for my application, and at this price, they're well worth it. As I said, if your looking to build a "pro-level" studio, then your want better monitors than these. But if your like me; a novice or have limted funds and or space-the M-AudioPro 3's are a great place to start.

Comments about M-Audio StudioPro 3 Desktop Audio Monitors:

These speakers are great for just about any occasion except playing live, unless you are in a small room. They are just simply not loud enough. These speakers are very clear and carry enough bass for my taste without turning on the boost. I would recommend these for anyone who is looking for a great set of personal monitors.

I bought these guys to use as a pair of desktop speakers in my office at work because i wanted something that had a bit more quality than something you would normally pick up from a computer store. I have these guys hooked up to a little bluetooth audio receiver so i can stream music and such directly off my work machine. Great product for how i use them!

Comments about M-Audio StudioPro 3 Desktop Audio Monitors:

Don't let the sales title StudioPro3 misslead you. These are not professional studio monitors as they do not have the the precision sonically or image-wise to be used for mix monitoring.

That said, these are good for modeling small transducers that you might find in a quality tabletop radio or home theater satellites to audition a mix targeting this sort of listener.

I bought a pair to use as decent computer monitors and they are super for such a role, far better than the junk sold as computer speakers by computer retailers. And they are priced right for this role.

Except for a broken 1/8 inch jack that fell into a speaker cabinet after manufacture but before shipping, the product worked fine. I opted to take the speaker apart and solder in my own replacement jack rather than returning the pair for a refund or replacement.

Comments about M-Audio StudioPro 3 Desktop Audio Monitors:

I bought these monitors when I first started my recording career solely to get by with something cheap while I worked up money for some better ones.
I can honestly say that these monitors work wonders for amateurs and people just starting out on recording. After a year though, the right monitor tended to flake out on the bass every once in a while, and pretty much all of the jacks were worn out and liked to cause problems if the connections got messed with. The volume knob is fairly stiff and slick, not a good combination if you have sweat on your fingers from hours of slaving over the keyboard.
The one thing that impressed me the most about these monitors though is the accuracy of their trueness with the bass boost engaged. If it's not, then you'll definitely mix bottom-heavy to compensate for it while listening through the monitors, which throws off the entire mix in the end.
All in all, a very decent starting point for anyone looking to get into recording, and I would definitely recommend them to people looking for something cheap and decent-sounding.
(Oh, and the Aux input makes them a perfect extension of any television or gaming platform.)
