The Mackie HD1531 3-way high-definition powered loudspeaker delivers class-leading power, clarity, and flexibility in a design that is stunning yet understated. This Mackie loudspeaker's Class-D Fast Recovery amplification produces a ridiculous 1,800W of peak system power. High-Definition Audio Processing incorporates next-generation Mackie "Active" electronics and re-defines powered loudspeakers by implementing Mackie's patented acoustic correction processing for an intense experience. System tuning and custom transducer design by EAW ensures an optimized system that sounds great every time. The compact-yet-rugged, all-wood enclosure offers superior protection and a clean, unimposing look that will blend seamlessly into almost any environment.

Maximize Your Output

HD1531 incorporates the latest in Class-D amplifier technology to deliver a chest-pounding 1800W of peak system power. Both internal amps are designed using Mackie's legendary Fast Recovery circuitry. Other amplifiers can "latch" when pushed to clipping, leading to distorted audio, but Fast Recovery amplification reacts instantly to the occasional aggressive transient, drastically reducing the time it takes for the amp to recover, ensuring clean audio under the most demanding of situations.

This potent tri-amplified system is the highest-powered 3-way available in its class, providing a beefy 700W RMS low-frequency amplifier and a 700W RMS low-frequency amplifier, a 100W mid-frequency amp, and a 100W RMS high-frequency amplifier that, when combined, can deliver a max SPL up to 135dB (calculated, measured maximum SPL of 125dB). Measurements and calculators aside, it only takes one listen to know that the HD1531 delivers massive bang for your buck.

Define the Experience

The key to high-definition live sound is the detailed measurement and analysis of the inherent problems of horns and woofers. After that, the creation and application of some seriously NASA-esque (and patented) acoustic correction algorithms work to correct these very issues. The resulting experience is not only high-definition, it is truly a moment of clarity for anyone within earshot.

EAW Inside

The HD1531 is a perfectly tuned system that is truly greater than the sum of its parts. This is only possible due to the hard work and insane genius of the engineering team over at Eastern Acoustic Works (EAW). Not only did they fine-tune the system for complete optimization, they also custom-designed the transducers, ensuring maximum efficiency and performance.

The high-end 15" neodymium woofer features a 3" voice coil and is built to handle the massive power delivered by the low-frequency amplifier. The magnet is made using neodymium, which provides a greater magnetic field with far less material. This makes the woofer extremely lightweight without sacrificing one bit of performance. And the large 3" voice-coil is built to handle and dissipate far more heat than traditional designs.

The 1-3/4" compression driver brilliantly reproduces high frequencies with a diaphragm made using heat-treated titanium. Heat-treating increases the rigidity of the diaphragm, eliminating nasty distortion that can occur due to inconsistencies on its surface. It also greatly increases the life of the driver, so you can count on stunning high-frequency production for years.

Improving on traditional hi/mid horn designs, the HD1531 implements Mackie's optimized wide-dispersion WaveFront system to focus energy directly at your audience, ensuring optimum intelligibility for every seat in the house. The premium drivers, waveguide and system tuning allow the HD1531 to achieve the most output and best possible sound from every single component.

Tailor Your Tone

For added flexibility, a user-adjustable 3-band EQ is included on the rear panel of every HD Series loudspeaker. It's not just a 2-position EQ switch that can only be set to "flat" or "boost," but a high-quality 3-band EQ with Hi and Lo shelving and a sweepable mid frequency, each with ±3dB of gain, allowing you to customize the loudspeakers for the task at hand.

Fit and Finish

Mackie has long been dedicated to providing affordable gear that can go toe-to-toe with the most expensive gear on the market, and the HD1531's all-wood enclosure is no exception. The 15mm-thick birch plywood cabinets are extremely rugged, with substantial internal bracing and a coating of durable, textured black paint. A cold-rolled, powder-coated steel grill provides a sleek, modern look that is designed to blend into the environment. You can even turn off the trademark blue LED on the front of the speaker if stealth is your thing. A work of modern art? Maybe. Rugged and handsome? Absolutely.

From backyard BBQs to the most professional install, the HD1531 can be integrated into any existing system thanks to a wide variety of placement options. Standard M10 eyebolts convert the HD1531 into a professionally flown system with 12 integrated fly points for vertical or horizontal rigging. It's also pole-mountable, either on a standard tripod or mounted over a subwoofer. And of course you can simply stack them on your subs or place them on stage. Whether stacked, pole-mounted or flown, you can count on the HD1531 to be stable and sturdy.

Comments about Mackie HD1531 15" 3-Way 1800W Powered Loudspeaker:

First I must say, I love Mackie products, been using their boards forever! I have the whole system, 2 HD1801 subs and, now 3 HD1531 speakers. I love the looks and love the sound, I don't use them too often, once a year for a 1 hour public talk for 200-300 people and maybe a total of 10 practice/jam sessions with my musician friends a year.

Last year one of the HD1531 quit on me, just died no warning while putting music playback thru them. Checked date of purchase, just out of warranty! Oh well I'll just get another one, Purchased a 3rd HD1531 on April 2012 all is fine. Until last night, playing a little back yard get together another HD1531 dies, No warning just quits, All the lights light up except the green one on the back next to the on/off switch, same symptoms as the first one.

So definitely unreliable, in 4 or so years of ownership I've 2 quit on me, and I baby them, Imagine If I was working musician playing every weekend, they wouldn't have lasted the first month. So, the subs are great no problems with them, great value now that they are 899 but for tops, yeah get some JBLs, thats what I'm going to do.

Excellent sound quality but terrible reliability

from London, UK

Comments about Mackie HD1531 15" 3-Way 1800W Powered Loudspeaker:

My friend bought a pair of these speakers and I can say that the speaker cabinet sounds excellent and is definately capable of 126db which is states in the specs. So you'd think that this speaker is worth buying? NO, it's not, read on the internet for problems with it, the HD1531 is absolutely plagued with problems and Loud Technologies who own the Mackie company are taking weeks and weeks and sometimes a month or two to get parts to you, in which the speaker breaks down again with another problem. If the speaker cab was definately able to serve you well without breaking down then it'd be worth the money but seeing as the amazing amount of problems people are reporting all over the internet, you're better off going with a JBL PRX635 instead because that's a product that will last you, can take a beating and most likely will NOT break down like the Mackie keeps doing.

Pretty Good Speakers

from Los Angeles

Comments about Mackie HD1531 15" 3-Way 1800W Powered Loudspeaker:

I baught a pair of the HD1531s in May of 2010, just last Saturday, 10/16/2010, I was playing at home and one of them went out, a couple of minutes later the other one as well, I mean completly out. No distortion, nothing, just completly out. At first I thought it was the kill switch inside that had been tripped up, but I thought I wasn't loud at all and if it was the switch then it should start in a bit. It's been two days and I still have no sound. Glad to find out they have a 3 year warranty. Other then this problem, they sound pretty good, just a little heavy for my A$$. The price could be a little more affordable too.

Speakers Sound Great

from Newport news Va

Comments about Mackie HD1531 15" 3-Way 1800W Powered Loudspeaker:

I was one of the first in the state of Va. to buy the HD1531's. At that time I order the sub's to match and had to wait 7 more months. I have used the tops to do a few jobs. I picked up the speakers in Jan. 2010. Took a few to get all the new cables and power cores set up the way I needed. The 15" went out during a show. Sounded like AM radio. After a month I received my replacement speakers. This was in March. By April I was up and playing again. Every where I played, everyone loved the sound and Quality. Before I got the Mackie 1531's I bought the BOSE system and the QSC powered speakers. None could come close. On July 11th I was playing a job and both speakers blew. Wish me luck I have my new 1531's in the boxes. I hope the bug have been worked out by now. It's hard to do a show hoping your speakers won't blow. Overall the speakers are still the best sound for the money. When they work.

Splendid design, useful features

from Undisclosed

Comments about Mackie HD1531 15" 3-Way 1800W Powered Loudspeaker:

At first I thought the four-band EQ on these speakers was unnecessary because it is redundant. You already have EQ on your mixer or in your rack, right? Not quite! After reading the manual I discovered that there are often times when having individual EQ on each speaker is a really good thing. Most experienced pros know that speakers produce more bass when near a wall or even more bass when in a corner. Having individual EQ right on the speaker allows you to easily compensate for that problem. These speakers sound great and project well. The exhibit deep-throw and wide dispersion with excellent coherence from 80Hz to 16kHz. The horns are designed to be above ear-level because they project downwards slightly. That works well for elevated stages, but you will need sturdy stands and a helping hand to lift up these heavy speakers and amps if your typical stage is closer to the ground. These are touted as "light-weight" but lift one and you will see what I mean. They ARE light-weight considering the massive power, heavy magnets, amplifiers and plywood they contain. You need to see these in person to appreciate how handsome they are. Obviously, the Mackie / EAW design team is educated on the subject of Phi. I have used these and the QSCs. The QSCs are more accurate and cost less. These stack better, are a little smaller and can adjust discreet EQ for peculiar room-placement acoustics. You can decide if that's worth the extra two-or-three bills for your applications.I have used MANY powered loudspeakers, including numerous Mackie designs. This is one of the best powered 3-ways; one of Mackie's very best designs.
