OVERVIEW

More muscle and better dispersion for less cash.

If higher output and floor-pounding authority is what you're looking for, this 3-way, professional active speaker should be at the top of your list. 500W power is split up 3 ways between the low (300W), midrange (100W), and high (100W) frequencies. The result is full, detailed sound in a sturdy Baltic birch cabinet that features the WaveFront wide-dispersion horn. The Mackie SR1530z speaker comes with an integrated active crossover, accurate electronic time correction, phase alignment, and EQ. Best of all, it's just as easy to use and sounds just as spectacular as the rest of Mackie's active speakers, with linear response from 40Hz to 20kHz at high SPLs.

FEATURES
  • Professional 15" 3-way active loudspeaker enclosure
  • Tri-amplified 500W (300W RMS LF, 100W RMS MF and 100W RMS HF)
  • Baltic birch plywood and pressure-injected structural resin enclosure
  • Optimized wide-dispersion WaveFront high/mid horn system
  • 1-3/4" titanium dome HF compression driver with optimized symmetric phase plug
  • 6" high-output, mid-frequency transducer
  • 15" LF woofer with high-temperature voice coil
  • Built-in active circuitry provides precision crossover, accurate electronic time correction, phase alignment and equalization
  • Linear response from 40Hz to 20kHz at high SPLs
  • Full electronic and component protection circuitry
  • XLR I/O
  • Weight-balanced with side handles for easy carry and set up

We have had a chance to use these quite a bit and they sound good... not as good the QSC HPR153i for the same money though. We smoked one of the 6" mid-drivers on the Mackie, so i had a chance to look inside when we replaced it. It was like pulling teeth to get Mackie support on the phone for a replacement, so we specked out the part elsewhere and ate the cost. Using a premium B&C driver improved the sound so much we replaced all the 6" drivers in the other three mackies in one system. The QSC HPR153i sounds better. It is measurably flatter and has equal dispersion. The amps in QSC products are the best I know of. I have never had one fail in thirty years of professional use. Mackie's website claims they are the only company offering three-way powered systems. That is obviously not true. You can find the HPR153i right here on this website. With EAW's help, Mackie makes a good 3-way, but not quite up to the standards of the QSC line. If you're considering going active with these mid-scale units, both brands are fine. We have had better results and far less problems from the HPR153i though. Take a look at them. They're the same price. QSC has MUCH better support and it was easy to buy flying hardware and other accessories for the QSC stuff. Try calling QSC and call Mackie with questions, then decide for yourself.

We recently bought two of these for my church. They sounded great for an hour and then "pop, sizzle, crack" and no more speaker sound. It wasn't our setup. They just went into power protect mode. We boxed them up, returned them and got another pair. We set them up, turned them on, and then "pop, sizzle, crack" they go down again. We went online to see if others were having the same problem. Yep, all over the country. Took them back. We grabbed a couple new QSC's and they work fine, just not as clean and full sounding as the Mackies. Too bad.

10 year anniversary

Im goin on ten years with a pair of these 1530z and have NEVER had any problem. Excellent sound, surprising low end to say the least. I am going to put a sub under them, not that they need it so much rather to be a bit kinder to them when cranking out the bass. Only complaint is no volume control. A VC would be really nice when changing gear around or joining with other groups on really big shows. Without choking the volume at an EQ or some such device the speaker is way way tooo damn loud to run anything at unity.Other complaint. BRING THE PRODUCTION BACK TO AMERICA WHERE IT BELONGS MACKIE!!!!!!!

Great Loudspeaker Very Clear

By MTF

from Florida

This powered loudspeaker is a beast! It offers crystal clear highs and smooth punchy lows... We bought one a couple weeks back to try it out and see how we liked it and we are hooked! We are in the process of buying another one this week! Buy with confidence, this speaker WILL get the job done in audible pleasure style.

Power supply

By Anonymous

We had came into ownership of a pair of these and the power supply went balistic on us. We had a friend whos is a god at electronics take a look and it was a small short on the main circut board of the amp. He fixed it and we have no more problems. Other than that they are the best speakers I have heard in a long time.

Gota love the sound!

By Anonymous

It is Very loud and Very clear. It's Stupid simple to operate (not even a volume knob to mess with). I was going to buy a sub to go with a pair of these, but WOW! The low end is terrifying. I haven't had a chance to let them open all of the way yet, so I don't know what the ceiling is like, but the clarity I'm getting is amazing. One other reviewer said that they are so clear that you hear every little mistake, and I second that. But the sweet, noise-free sound makes my band gush with pleasure.

I live in the dorms at Kansas State University, and one day my roomate and I decided to turn these babys up... Mind you we live on the second floor, we got complaints that we were literally, shaking the computer monitors on the first floor, through solid concrete... You do the math!

What I EXPECTED!

By Chase-nQ6Dy

from Indiana

This is the clearest speaker I've ever heard. It blows everything away. I used to run two JBL JRX115 with a 1000 watts @ 8ohms. One Mackie over powers both of them. I once did sound for a band that had three horns. A perfect test of a great speaker. The horns came through to the crowd as if they weren't being amped at all. If you're looking for the best reproduction of sound you can get go with this three-way powered speaker. Increadable sound. There is one thing I don't like about it though. It's REALLY HEAVY! I'm 215lbs and I have to stop and rest some times. It's well over a 100lbs of akward dead weight, but it's no prob if you've got a man on each side.

Hear everything

By Weng

from Paris, France

OK, this is how we usually set-up: Mackie Onyx 32 channel board going into Mackie 4 dual-12 3-ways and 4 15-inch subs. That's for the main room venue. But when we needed a separate set-up for the cocktail-reception area, classical guitar music, we went with Macke again and got this boxes. OMG! The clarity of these things are amazing! It's the first time I noticed how busy my guitarist was actually playing; I could hear everything! If you need accurate speakers for a small-medium venue, these are it. Highly recommended (but be sure to play with clean technique-the audience will hear everything, mistakes included)

Love the Mackie 1530

By Bob Who

from Ashland, NE

Bought these over a year ago. They work great for our cover band that plays small/medium size venues. Great low-end punch (we still want to get Sub Woofers). Don't let the 500w scare you, these bad boys can fill up the hall. You will need to elevate them if the dance floor gets crowded so the highs don't get blocked. Because they way 111 pounds you will need subwoofers (some day) or a sturdy table or box to get them above the crowd head.If you are looking for ease of use, great sound and a well built box...you can't go wrong with the Mackie 1530!
