I just bought this kit with the CM-88s. I ordered them for what they are. They are, according to Nady, cymbal mics and they are the cymbal condensers in the 7 piece Nady drum mic kit. I had earlier purchased the Nady 5 piece kit and when my drums started sounding so much better I thought I could do as much for the cymbals. My cymbals sound like my cymbals and the CM-88s pick up everything I do clearly. They are not as unidirectional as billed but I do not mind. I use 4 condensers for 7 cymbals and hi-hat. One mic picks up two cymbals and with one for the hi-hat another one handles a group of 3 which includes a ride. My cymbal mics pick up from under the cymbal and hi-hat to prevent any over-head type pick-up. The upper frequency boost and lower frequency roll-off make these near perfect cymbal mics for my home drum recording. They are so very much better than the dynamic instrument mics I was using. My cymbals sound fantastically like they should in my recordings and I need nothing else.

I needed some hypercardioid condenser mics to shut out monitors but still allow acoustic instruments to be picked up from a couple of feet from the mic stand. This is not the answer. These things have quite a pronounced midrange hump, so if you don't put them through a 7-band EQ, you're sunk. Also, I did have a rather elaborate tree on my mic stand with two MXL 990's facing out at 45-degree angles, and they worked much better than this--too well, in fact, because although their sound was good, feedback was always a problem. Next I'm going to try these with lo-to-hi transformers and put an inline EQ pedal into the PA with them running through it. If I had this to do over, I would go with AKG C100S and use the hyper attachments.

Comments about Nady CYM-2 Condenser Mic Kit:

I was on a budget, but needed to mic my small SATB choir for general sound reinforcement. I bought 2 of these (4 CM-88 mics) and mounted them atop 2 mic stands with stereo "T" bars. I was able to slightly cheat the direction towards my better singers in each of the 4 sections, but they do capture the sound of the choir quite well. I am pleased, and WHAT A BARGAIN.

Great budget condensers

Comments about Nady CYM-2 Condenser Mic Kit:

We've used Nady headsets through the years and always found they were rugged and a good value for the money. Picked up a set of these to use in our small recording studio and pretty pleased so far. Hot little buggers on cymbals and have used them on acoustic guitar in a pinch with excellent results (set one about 8 inches off where the neck and body meet around 14th fret and 'yer good to go). So hot in fact, you need to be careful with bleed if you have someone doing a scratch vocal in the same room (solo your track and your heard what I mean). Very happy with these little dudes and probably going to grab a second set for my road bag. I'm giving these an overall 4.5 only because the clips could be a little better (mics tend to fall out if you mount them clip side down but heck, thats why they make gaffer's tape). Dont sweat the details and get these.

    this is a good buy

Comments about Nady CYM-2 Condenser Mic Kit:

This is a good buy if you need some cheap instrument/drum mics. I bought them with minimal expectations, mostly b/c they were SO cheap. You can't use them for vocals but I use them with my fiddle and guitar and they sound great! The pattern is tight enough that you can get them pretty hot w/o feedback. One thing though, the mic clips that they come with are junk.

    Great for one thing

Comments about Nady CYM-2 Condenser Mic Kit:

These mics do not have a "tight" pattern as the description says. Being unidirectional they have an open pattern. That said, they do a very good job of picking up just about anything in an open environment. They are not intended for close vocals or anything else close. You will be disappointed if you use them in that way. But for picking up any acoustic instruments, or a group of singers they work great. And for the price they can't be beat.

Comments about Nady CYM-2 Condenser Mic Kit:

I purchased two CYM-2 Condenser Mic Kits with the CM-88's. the construction of the element was poor, the sound was awfull and you could actually hear the element malfunctioning. Of the four Mic's in the kits, three sounded very poor and one was unusable. these are of such poor qulity that the only thing they have going for them is that they look nice.

    Budget Stereo Pair

    By Anonymous

    from Undisclosed

Comments about Nady CYM-2 Condenser Mic Kit:

Both mics were broken in the first set I purchased and I had to send it back. So I was skeptical. However, the second set impressed me enough to keep 'em around. You can't really get a cheaper condenser stereo pair out there. For the price, these mics get the basics done. I've used them in a whole bunch of stereo applications, mostly room micing. I admit, they certainly don't capture the most pristine sound, but hey, for this price? If you are trying out home recording on a budget and need a cheap pair of drum overheads, I highly recommend these. Pan each mic wide left and wide right and your drums will sound much nicer. Just don't expect to capture studio-quality sound. I have had these for 3 years now and they are still kickin.

    can't live without condensor mics

Comments about Nady CYM-2 Condenser Mic Kit:

I bought these a couple years ago because of the affordability and found so many uses in live and recording situations. These Nady's have performed with excellence. Most notable is providing sound for a school choir. I have some more expensive Rode condensors but were too hot so I used the Nady's and the application was perfect. You can crank the gain and not get feedback. Also used at a podium for speaking events. Don't feed back either. Buy these, experiment, have fun.

Comments about Nady CYM-2 Condenser Mic Kit:

I bought these mics to mic up my percusion set. I had little money at the time so I went for the deal. I wasn't expecting them to sound so great! At my first show with the mics the sound guy was exceptionaly pleased with the pick up. He could hear the cooks talking in the back of the venue through his monitors and had to adjust the positioning accordingly. I would recomend this kit to anyone who needs to be heard on a budget.

Comments about Nady CYM-2 Condenser Mic Kit:

The bad reviews on this product might be before the CM-88 was included in the 2 mic deal (previously the CM-85. I did not get any bad recording from these yet. For the price they are great. They are not intended for close vocal. For the price you can't beat the value. Take a chance if you don't like it send it back.

These mics give you nothing but distorted and tinny trash when used as drum overheads. For guitar, they are below average, at best. but for drums, they are atrocious.
