I use this mic on my cheapo kick drum mounted right in the opening in the resonant head with a mount that I welded up with some scrap metal bar stock that I use to make machines at my day job with. The mic came with both 5/8" and 3/8" threads in the mount so I just welded on a 3/8" stud to screw the mic on to. It sits right in the hole in the resonant head at a 45 degree angle. I find that it is directional enough to reject most of the rest of the sounds in my cheapo kit. I can't say that this mic sounds as good as the standard kick mics like the Beta 52 or whatever because I've never used one of those. I am able to get a decent (to my ears) kick drum sound using some EQ. Besides....my drum really sucks bad. Its not going to sound real great with ANY mic....lol. I run it through my Behringer Xenyx 1202 into my Lambda interface using Cubase LE to record with. I have included links to two original songs of mine that were recorded using this mic, a Nady DM70 on the snare, as well as a Nady SCM 960 picking up the room sound along with several other non Nady products doing other chores like my modified Realistic PZMs for Cymbals and my Shure B.G. 4.0 on the hi hat. I also mic'd the guitar with the SCM 960 and the bass with the DM90. Vocals were done with the SCM 960 as well. I do not claim to be a professional sound engineer or even a good musician. But I like to write and record songs so I wanted some equipment that I could afford. Since I have no dreams of rock and roll stardom, this inexpensive kick drum mic fit the bill for me.

We have this mic in our backup bag for the band. Its junk, I read the review that said it sounded like the beta... WRONG! I dont know what kind of equipment they are running the mic through but for this hunk of cheap plastic to sound like a shure mic it must have pixie dust hot glued all over it. Dont waste your money, buy something at least decent.

Comments about Nady DM-90 Dynamic Kick Drum Microphone:
The Nady DM-90 is an amazing mic for the price. I must admit, at first I was highly skeptical of using a low priced Nady mic. And when we first started doing sound check, I was prepared to swap it out. But to my surprise, it sounded good. It's not a "just plug it in and have the perfect sound" mic in my opinion - but very few are. However, EQ'd properly, and gated, it sounds great. I dedicate a 15 band eq and a compressor / gate inserted into the kick channel of my board, and I can pretty much dial up the sound I want. I used the DM-90 on a show this past weekend for three different bands, and everyone thought the kick sounded awesome. This mic really needs the eq cut in the 125hz - to 1khz region to get the muddy overtones out, but that seems to be pretty typical for kick applications in my experience. Some kick mics have this tailored EQ curve built in - such as the Shure Beta52A and the Audix D12 - but both of these mics are pushing 4 - 5 times the price of the Nady. Bottom line is, this mic is not just a cheap piece of junk - it is a very usuable mic, and it is well worth more than the modest price tag.

Comments about Nady DM-90 Dynamic Kick Drum Microphone:
This is one of the best Kick drum mics you can purchase, it is comparable to the Beta {except for the price}. I mic the Kick on the pedal side of the drum head for a few reasons; you get the attack of pedal without turning up the gain, also it is isolated from the amps, this combination allows you to record live with minimal bleed over, futhermore the Guitar player wont trip on it. Adjust your EQ and you will have an awesome tone.

Comments about Nady DM-90 Dynamic Kick Drum Microphone:
Not a bad mic, but I recomend adding 10 bucks and buying the CAD KBM412. It sounds better. It's the top kick mic CAD makes, and it's only 10 bucks more than this Nady, which is by far not as trusted as CAD. Nady did do a great job. The quality is perfect. The best deal out there right now is to just get the CAD Premium 7-Piece Drum Microphone Pack. It's an unbeatable deal. I sold the Nady and bought a CAD. CAD is better.
Comments about Nady DM-90 Dynamic Kick Drum Microphone:
All I wanted was something to beef up my kick just a little bit for live shows. This thing has done the trick and it was 1/3 of the price of others. I didn't need a whole set of drum mics, so I went with this and I'm happy I did. I wrote on another review for Nady, don't waste your money on Shure, go with Nady!!! The ONLY complaint I have is that the mic cable sticks out a lot so in small space gigs sometimes my guitar player hits in when he's rocking out. Otherwise it's great.
Comments about Nady DM-90 Dynamic Kick Drum Microphone:
We're currently using this Nady DM-90, and it sounds great! With ported and non-ported heads on a Gretsch 22", and on a Mapex 16' jungle bop kit. The results are very good.
Comments about Nady DM-90 Dynamic Kick Drum Microphone:
I bought this as a backup. My sound man compared this mic to my Shure B52A during a sound check. With the same eq settings for both mics, the Beta did win the sound test but with some adjustments the Nady sounded just as good as the Beta. For the money and sound quality its a deal.
Comments about Nady DM-90 Dynamic Kick Drum Microphone:
Bought this in hopes it would bring out the kick in my old yamaha power V. Holy crap I was shocked. Great gain wonderful response. Honestly was not expecting that kinda mic for the price. Is recording sweet! You wont be dissapointed.
Comments about Nady DM-90 Dynamic Kick Drum Microphone:
I just plugged this mic up yesterday and it is perfect for my needs. I've used virtually every kick drum mic imaginable from all of the "big name" companies, and unlike many of the "go to kick mics" this one sounded really good out of the box with a flat eq. Of course I adjusted the eq further and after about 30 seconds I had a concert ready kick drum sound with only EQ (no compression, gates, expanders, reverb... NOTHING) It was shaking the walls. Buy the mic and you'll not be disappointed.
