I received this Mic on time and in excellent shipped condition. It was packed well. I did not pay attention when ordering that it does not include a Stand Mount, and was disappointed to open the box and find no mount. Though this was my own oversight, I still believe a mount should be included with this Mic. I have numerous Studio Mics and was able to utilize a mount from another Mic that worked fine with the Nady. That was my only "Con" concerning this Mic.
The Price is not a reference to Quality. This Nady has a very Clear and Distinct characteristic. This is even more evident when comparing recorded results by trying other Mics and listening to the Vocals. The Attenuation works well in my environment to keep some PC Fan noise and other enviromental noises from being a problem. I think this Mic will become a favorite as I continue to experiment with it under various recording scenarios. I think it is a very good value in comparing it's price to it's quality.

Has a very good, clear sound for the price. Works well for my home studio. The only thing thats "bad" is the inner mic itself is free floating. DO NOT shake or bump the mic stand while its active. Makes a very loud noise.

Not sure if its intentional or if it got loosened in shipping. Does say built with inner shock mounted mic.

Other than that it works very well for my home application.

Comments about Nady SCM 960 Studio Condenser Microphone:

This mic produces a clear crisp sound and rejects background noise very well. The Nady SCM 960 is even better than the Nady SPC-21 and SPC-25. I was so impressed with the clarity of the SPC-25 that I decided to give the SCM 960 a try. I was not disappointed. This microphone rocks and I suspect that it outperforms others costing hundreds of dollars more. The attenuation and pick up pattern switches make it very versatile. Nady microphones are the best kept secret for professional high quality mics that don't hurt the pocket.

Unexpected Value

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

Comments about Nady SCM 960 Studio Condenser Microphone:

I've been using this mic regularly for about 2 years, in a variety of home studio applications. I have two other more expensive large-diaphragm condensers, but this mic is most often my first choice. I'm not really sure how to explain it, but the thing just sounds warm, articulate, and most of all 'true', like its live and not a recording. Especially vocals. The price is ridiculously good, and my switches still work (it has some pickup patterns and a db switch). Super value.

Well no. 1 you cannot beat the price.No. 2 it would be great for even twice the money.No. 3 it's a great mic. This little workhorse dispels the saying "A mic is only as good as your pre-amp" because for amateur recording into a DAW or the like you can get a great signal without one.VERY user friendly. It's a little tough to get it to fit into a "normal" sized shock mount but that's a small gripe. It fits- just not easily. The omni feature is nice especially if you have the acoustic/folk circle thing going on.Records vocals and acoustic guitar equally well.It was on sale and I wish I had bought 2.

This mic out performs any mic on the market twice its price.I use it on my floor toms and as drum overheads. This application will create a low end on your kit you haven't heard or felt before.I own 4 of them. I also use them for congas and bongos that I have incorporated into my drumkit. Using the 20 db reduction with the cardioid option selected, obtained the best control for me when applying multiple mics. Please Don't be tentative to use some EQ with these to reduce some mids and give the highs a little extra. You will love the smooth high end and the powerful well defined low end.Just experiment a little with your mic placement. You won't be disappointed. Enjoy this amazing value!!!

I absolutely love this mic. I have owned several other condenser mics and a ribbon mic, using brands such as Shure and MXL and these off brand mic is by far the best sounding mic I have ever owned. It is so crisp, clear and natural sounding, it really gives my vocals that sparkle that I was looking for in my recordings. It also makes acoustic guitar come alive, I made some great acoustic recordings with this mic and I love how clean and vibrant my recordings came out. I highly recommend this mic to anyone no matter what the application, for the price every recording artist should keep this mic in their arsenal.

This is one of my first condenser mics, I researched a little bit about it and it seemed to have decent reviews. I didn't have the money for a so called better one right now, and honestly, I'm kind of glad I didn't. This thing sounds great. You will need some sort of adapter to mount it properly, however I just stuck it in one of my regular rubber mic holders, from bottom side, and so far so good. If your on a budget it's worth a try.

Comments about Nady SCM 960 Studio Condenser Microphone:

The first 960 I ordered was defective. The -10dB / -20dB switch performed no function at all and the Omni pattern switch reduced the output by about 25%. I was getting internal microphonic noise like cheap old single coil pickups produce. I am exchanging it in hopes of getting a good one.Second hangup on this mic is no included mic clip even though the bottom is threaded for one the proper sized one has no part number. So they recommened buying a shock mount ssm-3 that dont fit the mic with switches or the egg shape securely. My other Mic is a Audio Tech at2020 which happens to be a great starter mic for home studios.

Comments about Nady SCM 960 Studio Condenser Microphone:

This may be the best very-low-priced condenser on the market. Works well with voice and acoustic instruments, two patterns and dual pad, decent specs, and a good performer. Clear but not overly hyped in the high end. Compare this mic's performance to a JoeMeek JM-37dp (I have both). Not a mic to be moved (hand-held) or hit (drum close-miking) during a session because the "floating" capsule construction can cause mechanical noise. Using a typical shock mount can be less than straight-forward because of the shape, size and switch configuration of the mic. Even with these caveats, I still keep a pair of these and have bought more as gifts for friends. The plain packaging will make you think you received a piece of plumbing. What this mic might lack in visual sizzle is made up for in the way it sounds and performs for a mic in this price range.

Comments about Nady SCM 960 Studio Condenser Microphone:

This mic sounds AWESOME for the money spent on it. The only thing that it can't seem to handle real well is room mic with a loud kick drum. Switch on the -20 pad and everything gets better. Re-adjust the volume to make up for the loss in sensitivity and there's that very slight distortion again. Hmmmm. Sounds really awesome on everything else so far though. After checking the specs I noticed the SPL was kinda low on this mic so it might not be best suited to certain loud situations. This mic makes my so so voice sound ok with some slap back delay introduced. It also handles my over-driven guitars really well.

Comments about Nady SCM 960 Studio Condenser Microphone:

This mic sounds absolutely incredible for the tiny price tag. That being said, the particular mic I recieved has an internal connection issue that surface on the second or third day after I got the mic. The mic randomly cuts out and pops because of this issue, though once I get it fixed I'm positive that this will be one of the greatest mics I'll have used to date. The mic has a great low end, and works perfectly for instrument or vocal recording. I can't vouch for how it handles a live performance, but after hearing how well it handles recording, I wouldn't be suprised to find this mic in your live performance arsenal as well as your studio.

These have a bitey presence peak and I use them for drums.. Yes with the 20db pad this thing mics a snare like a champ. Looking for that in for face crack it'll beat the heck out of a dynamic. You will have to be very carefull with placement as it will get a little more hi hat than a dyno though. These will kick but on any thing accept maybe a little bright for guitar amps. Acoustic and Vox will sound authentic though watch the siblance on the vox. I'm not a fan of NADY but I'm a huge fan of their condensor mics, I have the scm1000 and they are great as well.

This mic is very sensitive, i've only used a small condenser before, this one is just amazing, without a soundproof room, those attunation swiches will come in handy! It has an open sound, i'm very impressed with this product and the price. Couldn't find a better mic for 3 or 4 times the price.

Comments about Nady SCM 960 Studio Condenser Microphone:

When I first opened the box on this mic, I found myself marveling at just how tiny it was. It's almost cute looking. That's when I started thinking, "Okay, how is something this small going to sound?" Holy cow, this thing has some serious presence! When using some of the compression settings on my MXL 990 for my vocal recordings, I've always had to get up close and personal in order to get the kind of warmth that I desire. But with this puppy, I can just relax, stand about a good foot away and it gives my vocals that beefy warmth I've always wanted to hear.It also has some great built in features. I love being able to switch between the cardioid and omni directional pattern, and the attenuation switches can really help lessen ambient noise for those who don't record in soundproof rooms. As with most condensors, I do worry about the fragility of this microphone. The one I received had a dent in the grill as though someone had dropped it during shipping. I'm not quite sure what the 'internal shock mount construction' entails, but I have a feeling this gives it a little more durability than the average condensor. For the price, this mic really does a LOT. Don't be afraid to get at least one and check it out for yourself. You might be surprised.

I bought 2 of these to mic a small fiddle bluegrass group, with excellent results... So I began to use them for other purposes. Most recently we recorded audio and video for a local symphony orchestra concert, and had excellent results on the playback. These mics seemed to pick up every nuance of the orchestra and every instrument. If you are on a budget, buy them... you won't be sorry.

The presence, the sensitivity, the rightness of the sound is just perfect. I Love it. Recorded in a studio before with expensive mics, I honestly like this one more.
