I had 5 of these for a few years.. They worked and they were dirt cheap. The switches started popping and I finally bought some SP5s and couldn't believe the amazing sound difference for only a few bucks more. This mic served me well for a long time, but it doesn't have the depth and sparkling crisp clarity that the SP5's have. Spend a few more bucks on the SP5's or get some Behringer XM8500's they're both getting rave reviews and not much more. Looking back, I wish I never would've gotten these..

Outstanding Mic for Small Church Venue

By Zalzan

Comments about Nady StarPower SP-1 Microphone:

I needed some mics to use in a small church (300 seats, two story ceiling). This mic is perfect. Running it through an Alesis 12 channel mixer, and this mic produces deep bass, crisp highs, and solid midrange, no distortion or feedback. For comparison, I also have $100 and $50 Shure mics, and the Nady sounds exactly the same. Bottom line is that most any mic is only as good as what you are plugging it into.

Comments about Nady StarPower SP-1 Microphone:

Until I get the money for a Sennheiser e 835 or the SM58, this is what I have, and I have to say for the money, it does a really good job. Won't give you studio quality sound like a condenser mic, but still pretty darn good.

Comments about Nady StarPower SP-1 Microphone:

If you want a Shure Beta 58a, then don't buy this. If you're looking for a durable microphone that is noise free and you need a bunch to have around, these are great! I've used them for vocals and instrument mic'ing with no issues. Hard to beat for the buck you spend!

    Surprisingly Good For The Price

    By Electroman

    from Boston

Comments about Nady StarPower SP-1 Microphone:

I bought a pair of these for my mother to use for her vocal group. I was surprised at how durable they are. The constructions appears to be all metal, and they performed quite well on their first use, even after being dropped a couple of times ! A great general purpose mic, and a bargain, too.

Comments about Nady StarPower SP-1 Microphone:

I've accumulated a bunch of these, when they were on sale. I've had great results micing guitar and organ cabs, and even horns with them. They're also fine for karaoke. Sometimes, good enough is good enough, and these work fine on stands. If you have a strong singer, with good mic technique, you could get away with it handheld. A foam ball is advisable.

Comments about Nady StarPower SP-1 Microphone:

I am surprised by all of the positive reviews of this mic. I bought this for my daughter and we have had nothing but problems with it. The thing is poorly made and no matter what cable we use it will not get a good connection. I shouldn't have to tape the cable to the mic to get it to work and then it doesn't always work. This mic also produced a humming sound and doesn't have the best sound quality. I guess you could say that it is a beginners mic but in the end if it doesn't work then what is it worth to a beginner. Don't try to save money by buying this because in the end you get what you pay for. You will more than likely be unhappy with it and be buying a more expensive one so save yourself the time and money and get one that will work.

Comments about Nady StarPower SP-1 Microphone:

The sound is like a scooped EQ and the plosives really get to this mic easily.I know it's cheap but you get what you pay for in a mic. Save up and get a truly good mic such as the SM58...it will last forever and sound worlds better compared to this Nady.

Needed a mic to do some backup vocals, but didn't want to spend a lot on one. After a bit of looking around, the price seemed fair, and the reviews were decent for this one. So far, the mic actually sounds really good.

For the money, I'd say you'd have a hard time finding a better mic.

Comments about Nady StarPower SP-1 Microphone:

It's a good budget mic to use as a backup. However, there are those select few people that come along and sound better on a dirt cheap mic than on a Beta87A or even a Neumann U87. Trust me! I didn't believe it until I had one come into record. Had one of these still lying around, hooked it up, and we found what we were looking for! It's not a bad investment, both as a spare and a "it just might work" mic.

Comments about Nady StarPower SP-1 Microphone:

I use the Nady SP1 as my vocal backup mic on stage. I like it because it has an ON/OFF switch and I have it turned off most of the time. Our lead singer has a Shure SM58. His mic has feedback problems on stage all the time. My Nady SP1 does not. I own several Nady SP1s and SP5s and are more impressed with them after comparing them live with the more expensive Shure SM58. The Nady mics have alot less proximity effect for feedback than our Shure SM58. As others have mentioned, leave the Nady SP1 on the mic stand because they do get noisy when holding by hand. I bought my Nady SP1s as a package deal with a mic boom stand and cable. Great deals by themselves or in the packages with stand and cable. Give them a try.

Comments about Nady StarPower SP-1 Microphone:

I bought one of these as a backup for my mobile DJ rig, and honestly wasn't expecting much. But hey, it's cheap, so I thought, "why not"? Right out of the box, I was pleasantly surprised by the appearance of quality and heft of the mic. It's a ruggedly built mic with a diecast metal casing and steel windscreen. It's built as well as a mic costing 10 times the price. Plugging it in, it sounds remarkably similar to my main Shure PG-series mic I use in my DJ rig. Full bodied, and crystal-clear with no self-noise or other nasties. I also play in two regular gigging bands, and we use Shure Beta 58s, SM58s, EVs, and Behringer XM8500 mics. I would say that the Behringers have a little hotter output and a bit more extended frequency response than this Nady, but I still wouldn't hesitate to do a band gig with the Nady. It's a good mic, and at the price, you just can't beat it! If you're a mobile DJ, or in a band on a budget, this is an ideal mic. I might add that of all our mics, the Behringer XM8500s are the best sounding ones of the bunch, even slightly edging out the pricey Shure Beta 58s.

Comments about Nady StarPower SP-1 Microphone:

I bought this mic with a boom and I had to return it cause it had a deep hum to it. I got a new one and the mic has an even worse hum than before. I have a $5 karaoke mic that out performs this 10 to 1. What a horrible product.

The mic with quality that cost less money

            By Godinguitars

            from Quakertown, PA

Comments about Nady StarPower SP-1 Microphone:

I don't know what you read before, but put it all aside and read this.... I have personally used this mic for shows and practices. I used it for singing and it sounded great. Those people who say it buzzed probably did something wrong to make it do that. Buzzing could happen if another electrical appliance is nearby (a.k.a. A CELL PHONE!) I used the mic and I enjoyed it, I have used the SP-5's as well and they are great mics. If you are in a garage band that hopes to get somewhere that doesn't have a lot of money...buy this mic! If you don't mind spending money then go with the shure PG48 for around $45. One more thing to add thease mics are durable! They will go throu anything and still come through as an awesome mic. One I worked with even had a dent in the screen lol and it still worked beautifully. Do yourself a favor, and buy this mic. It's only 8 dollars! So if you don't like it for any reason at all....it's only 8 dollars! Buy this mic if you're not into good mics that are cheap.
