I had 5 of these for a few years.. They worked and they were dirt cheap. The switches started popping and I finally bought some SP5s and couldn't believe the amazing sound difference for only a few bucks more. This mic served me well for a long time, but it doesn't have the depth and sparkling crisp clarity that the SP5's have. Spend a few more bucks on the SP5's or get some Behringer XM8500's they're both getting rave reviews and not much more. Looking back, I wish I never would've gotten these..

I am surprised by all of the positive reviews of this mic. I bought this for my daughter and we have had nothing but problems with it. The thing is poorly made and no matter what cable we use it will not get a good connection. I shouldn't have to tape the cable to the mic to get it to work and then it doesn't always work. This mic also produced a humming sound and doesn't have the best sound quality. I guess you could say that it is a beginners mic but in the end if it doesn't work then what is it worth to a beginner. Don't try to save money by buying this because in the end you get what you pay for. You will more than likely be unhappy with it and be buying a more expensive one so save yourself the time and money and get one that will work.

Comments about Nady StarPower SP-1 Microphone:
Until I get the money for a Sennheiser e 835 or the SM58, this is what I have, and I have to say for the money, it does a really good job. Won't give you studio quality sound like a condenser mic, but still pretty darn good.

Comments about Nady StarPower SP-1 Microphone:
If you want a Shure Beta 58a, then don't buy this. If you're looking for a durable microphone that is noise free and you need a bunch to have around, these are great! I've used them for vocals and instrument mic'ing with no issues. Hard to beat for the buck you spend!

I bought a pair of these for my mother to use for her vocal group. I was surprised at how durable they are. The constructions appears to be all metal, and they performed quite well on their first use, even after being dropped a couple of times ! A great general purpose mic, and a bargain, too.
Comments about Nady StarPower SP-1 Microphone:
I needed some mics to use in a small church (300 seats, two story ceiling). This mic is perfect. Running it through an Alesis 12 channel mixer, and this mic produces deep bass, crisp highs, and solid midrange, no distortion or feedback. For comparison, I also have $100 and $50 Shure mics, and the Nady sounds exactly the same. Bottom line is that most any mic is only as good as what you are plugging it into.

Comments about Nady StarPower SP-1 Microphone:
I've accumulated a bunch of these, when they were on sale. I've had great results micing guitar and organ cabs, and even horns with them. They're also fine for karaoke. Sometimes, good enough is good enough, and these work fine on stands. If you have a strong singer, with good mic technique, you could get away with it handheld. A foam ball is advisable.
Comments about Nady StarPower SP-1 Microphone:
The sound is like a scooped EQ and the plosives really get to this mic easily.I know it's cheap but you get what you pay for in a mic. Save up and get a truly good mic such as the SM58...it will last forever and sound worlds better compared to this Nady.
Comments about Nady StarPower SP-1 Microphone:
I had a chump singer from an ac dc tribute band destroy one of my sure mics and tare up a mic cable twirling the mic like he was the guy from the who. You want to be a star you get the STAR POWER
