I have been a bedroom mixer for just over a year using a Vestax Typhoon, which is an excellent solution for the money. I learned just about all I know using it, which isn't much as of yet. I wanted to take the next step into a higher end solution using either Traktor or Serato software. I first tried the Novation Twitch with the Serato Itch software and like everything about the form factor. However, after days of trying to use the Twitch with songs I had previously mixed using the Typhoon, I just could not execute the mixes. I tried over many hours over several days and finally gave up and returned the unit. The software was very challenging to use and would not hold beats like I expected. Then, the next step was the natural move to a Traktor solution. Since Native Instruments writes the Traktor software and builds their Kontrol hardware right around the software, it seemed like a great place to start. Every review on the web for the Kontrol S2 is sparkling, so it seemed like a good bet. And, it surely appears to have been the right choice, to say the least. In less than an hour, I could pull off mixes using my previous songs effortlessly. I found the software to be infinitely easier to use than the Serato. There are also countless powerful features in the software that I will soon be utilizing for my mixes. The Traktor Kontrol S2 is a huge leap for me and I can't wait to dig in much deeper into the world of mixing. I have never DJ'd a gig and am not sure if I ever will, but the S2 is a more than capable tool for the professional. The hardware seems very well built and is more than portable. So, to me, if you are a bedroom mixer or even a professional DJ, I think the Traktor Kontrol S2 from Native Instruments may be a great tool for you. Have fun mixing!

I'm just taken by how intuitive this controller is, the quality of the hardware is great, the seemless integration with the software amazed me. I went from using an american audio vms4 (garbage) with virtual dj and the difference just makes me so greatful to have the people at native intruments doing all of the great things they are.
This is the best controller you will find for the price... by FAR.
Seriously though, this is the controller for anyone.

I really enjoy the convenience, simplicity, and overall feel of the S2. I have no qualms about being a laptop DJ. I just pop the S2 on my mixer stand and my laptop on a tripod stand and plug in. No need for a massive table and crating around a bunch of junk. It's legitimate.
Contains direct hardware interface with the best features of the Traktor software. There really isn't anyting missing. It is small, compact, and sounds great. I don't scratch, but the jog wheels have a great response, the level faders are smooth and tight. The knobs are buttery. The buttons have a solid feel. You can run a backup (ipod or whatever) through the mic input if your system crashes and you need to reboot, just watch the levels! It seems to be a common thought that this doesn't work. It does. Oh, the booth output is handy, too.
Very well built. It's not a tank, though, so make sure you protect it during transport. I've had a Kontrol X1 for two years and the buttons/knobs still feel great...I'll expect the same from the S2.
With the current promotion, it's a steal, especially since you get the software; if you already have Traktor 2, you can sell the software or use it on another laptop.
