I used and owned Beringer and Mackie 1604-VLZ3 Premium 16-Channel/4-Bus Compact Mixer for almost a month when ALVIN ATKINSON BAND world tour to promote american Jazz music around the globe and perform in KSA. It was on an small venue and I have used the Mackie 1604-VLZ3 Premium 16-Channel/4-Bus Compact Mixer. That was terrible for the since that it has a very poor and low headroom and you can't even move up a bit above the "U" gain or the Unity Gain that they are talking about. It gaves me a severe and anoying feedback. I have used the DBX iEQ-31 and re-enforce with the DBX AFS-224 to remove the feedback but I can't take that having a very dull and very bad sound quality. My technician suggested to have the Peavy FX16. So immediately we rush up for the few days left to have the Peavey FX16 at our hand and do the set up. We found out that there's a big difference between these branded mixers. Peavey FX-16 has a very clear and crispy sound, no noise, the buit-in effects are fantastic, 19" U-Rack is very convenient for the technician at the small venue, Very high gain and Headroom without anoying Feedback-(No need to have the second or third party Feedback Processors) because it has buit-in award winning Peavey's Feedback Ferret. A lot of more powerful features like mp3 streaming, with 2-USB port, Open to software upgrade anytime as you like, in short this is one of the best peavey's enovation at that price. I love this product if somebody brook or stool this I don't hesitate to buy onother one. The only bad comment I had is the horrible user manuals. I hope peavey should release new one with the Hints & Tips from the experts.

I posted a previous review and am providing an update. This unit embaressingly failed me with mains output cutting out in live sound situations 3 times over 5 years. It was repaired twice under warranty with me footing the shipping 1-way both times. The first time a repair was noted by Peavey and the second time they informed that a voltage modification was performed. Now it has just failed again and is out of warranty. This is a long-time Peavey buyer and user, but I can not have a board failing me in a live situation repeatedly. Getting a different brand for mixers from now on.

      worth the preamps alone

Comments about Peavey 16FX 16 Channel Mixer with Effects:

I have been lusting after this board for quite sometime now and finally decided to drop the coin on it this year. I was $ well spent! My main reason for wanting it was the dual processor's which would allow me to gate all our mics as well as add dly/chrus to our vocal tracks without all the extra gear to haul around. I have tryed alot of different mixers in the past. For years I have used a behringer which I picked over a Mackie upon testing. We hooked this baby up at the last gig were literally blown away. The mic preamps are the cleanest I have ever heard and all the controls are super responsive. I ended up removing all the effects processing from the vocal channels and just leaving a soft compression with reverb on the vocals. The result was a sweet mix that you dream of. Everything cut through clearly and at basically what would be considered bedroom levels for most bands. I needed a great, dependable, workhorse of a live mixer and Peavey delivered. With the dual cpu's it may sound a bit intimidating to operate but it's actually very user friendly with presets for every effect that are very useful starting points.

      Repaired Under Warranty, Still Rocks

      By SoundsGood2Me

Comments about Peavey 16FX 16 Channel Mixer with Effects:

Overall fine and affordable, brand-name unit that fits the top of my rolling rack with effects in one rack. I am using the Peavey 16FX to run sound occasionally for rock bands in local small and medium-size venues. Output fidelity is crisp, mic inputs very clean and no crosstalk. The bands appreciate being able to get 4 separate monitor mixes which I am running out of aux1-4. Note: purchased an inexpensive program for my home computer that lets me convert from 44.1kHz to 48kHz which is needed for USB playback to be at the correct speed. Problems: sent the unit back for factory repair under warranty after about 10 months due to L/R output cutting out as a result of a problem with fx1 unit/board, 1 of the channel faders also went bad. Both problems fixed under warranty and back in good order now. Some CPU limitations when trying to use resource-intensive fx/processing.

Lots of features for the money, 2 eff channals, 4 pre balanced aux and 2 more post for the eff channels. While others have only 2 pre. Lots of stereo balanced bus routing. However the mp3 playing from USB is only possible at a low bitrade, otherwise it plays to fast and chipmunked. The CPU had processing problems playing mp3 while 2 effect where running. Not such a big deal for me, I want good live mixer. That what it is. The 1e eff channel had a big noise problem from the start. After I explaned the problem, Peavey send a new one in two days by UPS. Thanks to Peavey Engeland.

I have had this 16fx for about 5 months now, and I use it for everything. It plugs right into the USB jack in my PC, and works great with Adobe Addition. Its not Firewire, but along with good mic setings, and using the FX in the mixer.. Its a great thing to have. I use only Peavey PA gear, and always have.

      Nice Job, Peavey

Comments about Peavey 16FX 16 Channel Mixer with Effects:

I am the Live Sound Engineer for my schools play thingy this year. This is the mixer they have there. Knowing I wasn't giddy, because Ii've had bad experiences with their products, but then again, I couldn't say anything about their mixers, because I'd never used a Peavey Mixer before. I was definitely surprised. This mixer has quite a bit of output and a lot more to spare. One of my only problems with this mixer is that the EQ knobs are not very responsive, which I've found is the same for their guitar amps. One other thing is that the mute buttons on each channel, don't really mute the channel, they just put a really hefty pad on the channel so that you think it's muted the channel. But I noticed in the headphones, after I had muted channels one and two, and sound was still coming through them (they were the only channels other than one of the stereo channels that was being used for an iPod, which was off at the time). Otherwise, a very good mixer with a very clear sound and responsive faders.

      Alot for the price

Comments about Peavey 16FX 16 Channel Mixer with Effects:

Been using mixer for band about a year now. Holds up well like any other Peavey equipment. As far as the digital effects they are great, with alot of options of tweaking settings. Great board for anybody, for any use. Can be used as a simple mixer or you can get very creative with the different options. Not enough CPU memory or storage. I use a couple of effects,FB eliminator and the crossover for subs and that pretty much uses up all of the CPU.The built in crossover is great and it has 4 monitor sends. Most boards that are any quality that have 4 monitor sends are $1000 or more. There is not another board made like this especially for the money. Not to thrilled about the manual, but you can visit Peaveys Forum and any question you have about any of their products will be answered by people like us that own and use this equipment

      Too many features -

Comments about Peavey 16FX 16 Channel Mixer with Effects:

This is a fantastic mixer, especially from a price & features standpoint. I have been using it for about three months now. It is rack width so we have it mounted at the top of a roll around case. This made it so that all the connections could be left hooked up on the mixer side. The mixer is very portable and easy to set up. Make certain to upgrade the BIOS as soon as you get it, the newest BIOS has a built in feedback buster. With a USB memory stick, the directions on Peavey?s web site are very clear & easy to follow. The written manual is HORRIBLE, most of the software features have to figured out on your own. Luckily they are VERY intuitive, so it's fairly easy to do, you just have to take the time to play with it & find everything. According to Peavey?s forums a new manual is in the works & it sounds like it will be much more comprehensive with tips for advanced ways to take advantage of combinations of all the features this unit has. The processor isn't powerful enough to run all of the features simultaneously. I found that I couldn?t run the feedback buster & do an MP3 recording at the same time. I didn?t play with the feedback buster, there is a more manual way to use it that would take up less processing power. The stock/factory effects are all single effects, but you are able to stack up to three effects on one setting. So with two channels of effects you can stack up to six effects. There are 44 stock/factory effects & there is room for 40-55 user effects (I don?t remember off hand & the board is at church). All the effects types are very adjustable (once you figure out how). Delay, chorus, reverb, compression, gate, over-drive, tube simulator, etc are all there. And this has all been just about the computer, the board is full of features as well! It has extremely flexible routing, PFL/AFL?s everywhere, six AUX?s, four Subgroups & plenty of connection options.
