This is a very good portable PA system - nothing compares at the price! We?re happy with the Phonic 740 Plus system for a modest and ?portable? PA for clubs, weddings, etc., where we lug in our own system - larger venues provide the PA system and we just plug in. Power levels were good for guitar & vocal duo at 3 clubs, 2 smaller outdoor venues, and one large wedding. Sound was clear, easy to control, no real feedback issues - recommend with Behringer?s hot XM8500 mics. The included Phonic UM-99 mic and 2 speaker cables weren?t bad. Power was barely adequate for a 5-piece alt/rock & country/rock band at an outdoor tent gig, but pressed the clarity to the limit and used all channels (no bass, drummer fed his own mix). Even pushing it, the 2 fans and massive heat sink kept it cool. Seems more durable than other budget powered mixers, switches 115-230VAC power for my EU friends. We?ll see ahead on its road-worthiness. The Phonic 740 Plus may be improved with separate pan for stereo on each channel to mix distinct main1 & main2 amps/eqs/effects; monitor feeds don?t go through effects, but you can mix in main feeds to get some effects. Many plus comments by critical jazzers on the clarity of acoustic guitar (K & K Pure Western pickup), vocals & winds on mics, jazz arches had fewer feedback issues, and acoustic bass sounded sweet through this mixer and speakers. Second, the Phonic SEM 715 speakers are the real surprise in this package! Light weight (30 lbs each?), plywood cabinetry, solid 15" speakers and design really worked (even the oversized piezos!), but I wouldn?t push the pair to the 400rms rating. Jazz arch guitars sounded particularly nice. We liked lugging the lighter weight plywood compared with other inexpensive speaker boxes. And the plywood seemed to add to their clear sound and limited (bass) feedback.

i have a huge pa... consisting of 2 peavey towers two peavey pr15s and 4 peavey prsubs.. and 5 kustom mons.. that's alot of stuff to lug around for practice.... well we got a new singer and he had this system... it worked great when he just ran it at 8ohms, with the phonic speakers but when we hooked up a monitor, for the drummer, to each phonic, making it 4ohms and about 300 watts., the amp repeatly turned off.... so it may say it's rated for 4 ohms but it's not... beware.....on the other hand the phonic speakers that come with the system are worth it.. they do sound really nice for the money so if you need a practice pa this is a nice cheap one to get ....

Sweet PA

By Sustain13

from Atlanta, Ga

I bought this pa for practice and small outdoor shows and it does awesome. I run an acoustic and vocals through it and it plays with 2 electric, bass, and drums. I replaced the speaker cables with some Monster cables to get rid of a slight buzz and a new mic with less feedback and this pa is amazing.

I bought this because I was too cheap to hire a DJ for my wedding and decided to do it myself. I was so impressed with the unit and got tons of compliments on the sound. I DJ'd 2 more weddings after mine and paid for the system.

Excellent Buy!

By Acgwipeout

from New York

It's a great piece of hardware. If you're thinking about buying it, just buy it, you won't go wrong. I needed a PA for my piano, because the speakers were going on it. Also for vocals and guitar at live shows. The price is what drew me to this monster, because i'm cheap. I wasn't expecting the speakers to be so big, but oddly enough very light. I use it for practice, and my home studio. I turn it up less then half way and i'm already going deaf. My suggestion is to also buy a sub. The bass is o.k. but not awesome. If you want awesome you need a sub, luckily I had an old car sub in my garage. I hooked it up, and this system literally is the balls! I run mic'd guitar amp, vocals, piano, drum machine through it. It has plenty of power for everything. I'm very satisfied.

Nice system when it works

By drbendova

This is a nice inexpensive system when it works. It lasted about 6 months before it broke down. Repairs were covered under the warranty but it costs a fortune to ship. It came back from the shop working fine and then broke down in another 3 months. ( I don't use it very much) It is broken again and has to go in for repairs. It would have been more cost effective to use the money spent on shipping to buy a better quality PA system like a Yamaha. Also the website doesn't work reliably so arranging for a repair is an aggravating pain.

A lot of Bang for the Buck

By Jeff D.

from Hays, KS

If you're looking for a great little PA, this is the one. I bought it to use with my electronic drums and to be able to use the speakers for monitors for some of our bigger gigs. This is great for me because I have a mic, drums and an mp3 player all hooked up and great for practicing by myself or to be used a small PA for small venues. Sounds GREAT and very affordable.

Good Product

By bluegrassboogie

We have a small acoustic Bluegrass Band that plays mostly small venues. Don't let the price of this PA System fool you. It packs plenty of punch. Takes everything we throw at it and still has plenty left over. We mic everything through it including upright bass. The wedge speakers are a real plus we turn one for monitor and shoot it to where the audience can hear it too. Haven't had any feed back problems either.

This is a great pa! the mixer in my opinion is nothing short of fantastic. the monitors are interchangeable and can be speakers as well which is a beautiful feature. as one of the other reviews was talking about it really surprised me how big the speakers are. this think can crank. if your thinking about it, do it. it's all you will ever need.

awesome value

I bought this system a few months ago and all I have to say is WOW! I actually bought it for the speakers and was going to get a more powerfull amp and run it off my behringer mixer, but after using it a few times at school, I realized this system is good for most small-medium gigs. I have used it at a dance at school and if filled our fairly large gym well. I also used this system to run sound in at all school play, and it performed amazingly. I would definately recomend this to anyone. The speakers sound great right out of the box, but really thump the low end once broken in. This system rivals that of behringer and yamaha, at a fraction of the price!

Poor Quality Beware

By Drummer42

I bought this system for a practice amp at home. The head worked well for about a year on use of about one hour per month and then the head would not come on when powered up. Very poor life. Head is not stereo either. Buy a name brand and stay away from this brand

Review

By kevearl

from Winnipeg, MB

I am extremely pleased with this PA system. I have used it for a couple of small outdoor and indoor shows and have no major complaints. I ran 2 acoustic guitars, bass and 3 vocals through the system and had plenty of power to get the levels up over the drums. Most of the digital effects are not useful, but the reverb and delay sound nice. One minor complaint would be it tends to feedback if you're not careful. For the price though you can't go wrong. If you're on a tight budget, I highly recommend this system.

phonic powerpod 740 plus/sem715 pa system

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

This is probaley the best deal ever, this p.a. cranks! The speakers are so loud, there great because they have small boxes so they aren't heavy but the speakers themselves are so loud, I just use them as monitors for practice, and they sound great. Alot of the effects on this thing are still a little confusing for me, or hard to get used to, but there is so much to do with this p.a. and like I said, it cranks, with proper equalizing, this p.a. can get really loud and cut through cranker guitar amps and hard hitting drummers.

That's a nice !

By TheRock

from Mountain Top, PA

I can?t say enough good things about this PA package. You can?t beat the price for what is offered. The first time this PA was used I was extremely pleased with its clarity and ability to fill the room. It took at little fiddling to get the sound and connections just right. (Note: read the manual before you use it?Duh.) I?m running my Line 6 Spider III 75 to it right now from the POD out jack. Makes the 75 sound like a 150 and it doesn?t drown out the vocals. The digital effects are nice, useful and many. Of all the ?gadgets? I bought in the last 5 years, there are no regrets with this purchase.

Ask me a question

I have had this system for about a year now I even bought the extended warranty and never had to use it. (hope that didn't jinks me) This is a great system for the price and the sound quality is amazing. I can't believe what sounds I was missing. i only use this system for playing music cd's and DJ work. I will never again buy a store bought sound system. My neighbors want me to though. Great system, Great price.

great peice of equipment

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

i ordered this beast, to try to combat two half stacks and the loudest drummer you've ever heard and if you turn this puppy up you can drown out all of them. I got this in the mail a few weeks ago, and i was blown away with how big it actually was, the front of the PA actually had a white/silver face instad of a black one like the pictures, which looks very sharp and sort of futuristicky. Bottom line, this this cranks, clean vocals sound great, deep vocals sound great. all around great, one thing you should replace is all the cables that came with it (awful cables)

Inexpensive, effective PA solution

By gdawson44-t25Nb

from Atlanta

See all my reviews

Excellent PA solution for bands who can keep their volume under control. Cables and mike are cheap, replace ASAP. If you want to use a 31 band EQ or feedback reducer, you'll have to get creative but it can be done (however, this arrangement bypasses the built-in effect unit). The speakers are light and can be mounted on stands or used as wedges. Despite the 15s, the bass response is not massive. Best used as a normal PA for amplifying vocals and various instruments. The EQs are nice, however once at the point of feedback it's a struggle between the volume knob and the EQ sliders. Feedback reducers worked a lot better than the built in EQs. The built in effects are a nice feature although I've found them impractical for the kinds of music we do. 2 extra PA cabinets can be added directly to the system, even more if run in serial. The system is indeed loud but likely not designed for super loud bands that pound away with amps up to 11. Get the sound in your room breathing and this PA will cut right through. Note: there are no sliders or meters on the channels and the knobs are small. Small turns make big differences. Remember, this is a powered mixer all-in-one unit jamming as many features as possible into the smallest space available. Sounds great, works beautifully, but not as comfortable to use as the typical PA consoles. However, this system brings home more bacon than similar all-in-ones that cost twice or 3 times more. The cost-to-performance ratio is unparalled. I have no regrets with this. Once I learned to use it it has served us extremely well.
