PreSonus

High-quality pres and pro-grade A/D conversion turn your laptop into a powerful recording rig.

The PreSonus AudioBox USB 2x2 USB recording system is an excellent solution for achieving high-quality, professional-sounding recordings no matter where you are. The AudioBox USB is a USB bus-powered audio recording interface loaded with 2 microphone/instrument inputs with 48V phantom power, 2 balanced TRS outputs, and MIDI I/O so you can stay portable without sacrificing your sound. The AudioBox USB also comes with Studio One Artist music creation and production software which has the same platform and intuitive interface as Studio One Pro but with an unlimited track count so you can start recording right out of the box.

PreSonus Audio has won numerous awards for designing quality microphone preamplifiers for all price levels. The AudioBox USB is loaded with preamps that deliver high headroom, low noise, and high gain to give you pure, full, and rich sound. Most USB recording devices operate at a 16-bit sample rate and use converters with dynamic ranges of less than 90dB which gives you a pinched and relatively small sound. The AudioBox USB, however, uses professional-grade analog to digital converters with a dynamic range of 102dB and 24-bit sample rate so that the digital conversion is big, quiet, and musical, making it one of the best sounding USB bus-powered interface on the market.

The AudioBox USB is bus-powered giving you the flexibility you need with no wall warts, line lumps, or power cables. Just plug in to a powered USB port and you are ready to record. The AudioBox USB is housed in an all-metal chassis with metal knobs able to withstand the rigors of travel and your touring adventures. Just toss the AudioBox USB in your laptop bag and mobilize your music creation and production. Whether you're recording your shows, creating a mix on the plane, or writing songs in your hotel room, the AudioBox is ready to go.

SO. I bought this POS to do some home recording away from my actual studio. It sucks. First i had to wipe my hard drive just to get the drivers to download, NOW it doesnt make a single sound. I tried fidgeting when my control panel. and nothing works. Presonus's customer service is CRAP. every response i got from them was pre recorded and it took them FOREVER to get back to me. Even my brother (whos a tech geinus) cant get this thing to work. If you dont want to waste your time trying to get this thing to work, dont buy it. I used to love Presonus but now ill never buy a single from them ever again.

SO. I bought this POS to record at home when i was away from my actual studio. bottom line. it sucks. After i wiped my hard drive just to get the drivers to work, the damn thing doesnt even make sound. Ive tried everything, found contacting customer support (which was terrible. almost all of their responses were prerecorded or copied for wikipedia.yes. i checked) to have my brother (whos a tech geinus) look at it. no dice. if you dont want to waste your time tried to get this thing to work. dont buy it. its a sad excuse for a recording device. dont waste your money.

Good value

Features:

For the price seems like good deal.  Coming from a live sound background, I wish I had a mute button for inputs.

The Studio One included software seems to be more than adequate, but the manual is very poor.

Quality:

Only had it for 2 weeks.  Seems well built but time will tell.

Value:

From survey if alternative and brief experience the PreSonus looks like a very good value.

Overall:

This rating would be higher if the users manual for the software was better.

I bought this interface about a year ago to record my band and I have to say, Imimpressed. The audio is crystal clear coming from this thing and i use condeser and dynamic mics and they work perfectly. so your shure sm57 and 58 will work just fine. it's made out of some tough stuff too it wont break on you from a drop or being kicked acrossed your basement. Simply put i love this thing, i do screaming and singing vocals for my band and i use it to record guitar and drums. Presonus makes good stuff and this is certaintly a great example of that.

Easy to use, channel 2 died after 4 months

| Review By: Jonathan Orton | 3 months, 6 days ago

Features:

This interface is very basic but works well for solo musicians who would like to record 2 tracks. I have not used the software that comes with it because I already own Acid Pro 7.0. The device works flawlessly with Acid, no problems with latency, peak level indicators on the box match the software.I rate this section only a 7 because I think the channel one and two gain knobs are in an awkward place, not the end of the world, it just takes some time to get used to.

Quality:

After about 4 months Channel 2 stopped working. No audio input would work in channel 2. Troubleshot it with another identical unit from my work and determined it was a hardware problem with the unit. I contacted Pre-Sonus and they were very helpful and had me RMA the unit. I took about a month before my original unit was returned with a note indicating they replaced a chip on channel 2.

Value:

The price IMHO is a little too steep. You can for instance get a 6 channel interface by another company for around 50 dollars more.

Overall:

I use it a lot and enjoy it. I wish in retrospect that I bought a 6 channel interface from a competitor, but oh well.
