The PreSonus FaderPort puts feel, vibe, and efficiency back into computer recording and production. No more clicking through menus and drawing automation edits with a mouse. It is the first of its kind, a single-fader USB controller that can write single and group channel volume, pan and mute automation. The FaderPort features a high-quality, 100mm motorized ALPs long-throw fader with the feel needed for recording perfect fades and writing automation in realtime. A dual-servo motorized drive belt system makes automation smooth and precise while 1024-step resolution lets you write ultra-fine, accurate fades and adjustments.
Pan, mute, solo, and record enable can also be easily controlled along with window selection, play, stop, record, and managing markers (locate points) for fast and easy recording. A footswitch jack is also included for handsfree punch-in/out recording. Hooked this up, did the update, started working with it immediately. Love this for track automation! Makes my workflow much faster. I find it hard to understand the negative reviews from the "supposed" proffesionals on here. I think maybe you need to be smarter than a 5th grader to operate it. This is an awesome easy to use, durable product! Inexpensive ! Motorized! I use it in conjunction with Studio One V.2, a Studio Live 16.4.2 Mixer. I have had zero problems in over 2 years with this product. I hooked it up via USB. The only down side I see is that it needs more than one fader.

This device is useful sometimes. I use Cubase and Fl Studio and it works fairly well in both. My only issue is that it does not hold memory to the channel selected. So if you have one fader setting on channel 1 and switch between channels 1 and 2, if you decide to make the slightest change to channel 1 the software fader jumps from where it was it was originally set and you might have to adjust it to where you like it again.
Also, the Pan knob is highly sensitive to the software control. The knob on the FaderPort does not respond smoothly to the software pan knob. It jumps and skips certain parameters.
In the meantime, everything else is great. The Transport controls and automation controls are wonderful.

Despite other posts, the FaderPort DOES work with Sonar X1 under Windows 7 64 bit. I have been using it that way for months.
However, it will not work if connected to a USB3 port. Also, the PAN control is very jumpy. This issue is known by Presonus and there is no fix for it so just don't use the PAN control. If you stay away from the PAN, this is a great tool.

I don't write a lot of reviews on MF (too busy making music), but I thought I should address ProTools compatibility problems.
Faderport uses the HUI protocol. Depending on your version of Pro Tools, you might have to grab a file from the install disk or the digidesign website
Windows sometimes uses a UAC (user account control). Run Faderport as an administrator (to permanently set this option, you'll have to right click on the Pro Tools launcher in the start menu and work through the menus), and the unit should work.
The "user" and "output" buttons do not work with HUI.

Wow, I had always thought of getting one of these but I put it off. I would drag stuff around to be able to track in the studio by myself. All I can say is WOW, this item makes everything easier. I bought a 20' USB cable and have the FaderPort remoted to the main room for ease of tracking.

This controller is great for the money! If a monitor disarm button was added, it would be even better. You can even use with only USB power for recording and mixing tracks. If you're tired of using your mouse all the time, this is an inexpensive controller that will do most everything you would need.

I've spent hours getting this to work and I'm still only part way there. You have to download updates, manually move files, and register them to get the buttons to work at all. NONE of which is anywhere in their documentation. You find this out only after scouring the forums. My motorized fader still doesn't work and from the posts I've found this seems to be very common. I've read that lots of people have had to return at least one unit because of bad faders - still not clear if that is my problem yet. If you love to tinker with things to get them to work go ahead and buy it. If you want something that actually works out of the box with Sonar stay very far away from this.
Seems like it has exactly what I wanted, though, but doesn't much matter if ti doesn't work.

I just purchased the FaderPort for use with my M-Box2/Pro Tools 8 setup. As soon as I plugged it in, everything was running smoothly. It has dedicated controls for nearly every feature I use on the software. I record music only for fun and therefore cannot afford to spend too much on studio equipment. I strongly recommend thie product for anyone wishing to add a control surface on a tight budget. There isn't anything like this in the price range... not even close.

I use this product in my studio with Sonar and I love it. Great value for the money, lots of cool features, and easy to install as long as you read the instructions (get the latest ones online).
This thing is great! I couldn't get it to work with Sonar... so I pulled out the instructions. It took about 2 minutes to get it working flawlessly. No problems since.
This thing makes recording and mixing way easier than a mouse and keyboard. The motorized fader is a cool feature and makes writing volume levels a breeze. I would love to have the same product in a larger format.
Feels sturdy. Had some Pepsi spilled on it and it still works perfectly.
