The PreSonus Monitor Station is an all-inclusive desktop monitoring and communications system for your recording studio. It gives your DAW the missing functions that are only found in the master control section of a large-format console along with a multi-headphone monitor system. Based on the award-winning Central Station, the Monitor Station provides talkback, speaker switching, input source switching, and four ultraloud and clear headphone amplifiers delivering everything you need to control your recording environment.
Input Switching
The Monitor Station allows you connect up to three input audio streams (TRS 1, TRS 2, and Aux/Phono) allowing you to switch among and compare different inputs. One application is used to connect your computer recording system main outputs to the TRS 1 inputs and a CD player's outputs to the Aux inputs on the Monitor Station to compare your mix with a commercial CD with the touch of a button.
Speaker Switching
Three sets of speaker outputs are loaded on the Monitor Station allowing you to audition your mix on different speakers to take the guess work out of how your mixes will translate in the real world.
Main and Cue Routing
The Monitor Station allows each of the stereo inputs (TRS 1, TRS 2, aux) to be routed to one of two audio paths, "main" and "cue." The Monitor Station lets you route two separate signals (Main and Cue) to each of the four headphone amplifiers. Send a mix with click track to TRS 2 input while sending the "main mix" to TRS 1. You can then enable the headphone amplifiers to listen to either cue or main mix. The main audio path always feeds what you will hear in the control room.
Total Communication
Communication during recording is essential. No more yelling when you need to talk to the musicians wearing headphones. Use the Monitor Station talkback system with onboard or external microphone to communicate.
Customize Your Monitor Station
Three different functions on the Monitor Station can be set and saved during power-up so that you can customize your recording system for the way you work.
Input selection can be set in either "summing" mode (TRS 1, TRS 2, and Aux/Phone are summed together when engaged), or in "toggle" mode (TRS 1, TRS 2, and Aux/Phono can only be selected one at a time).
Speaker selection can either work in "all on" mode (speakers A, B, and C can be engaged simultaneously), in "toggle" mode (speakers A, B, and C can only be selected one at a time), or in "subwoofer" mode (A and B are selectable while C can be selected with A or B).
The Monitor Station's LED signal meters can also be set in three different modes for various signal levels (-10dB, +4dB, and +10dB).
Headphone Amplifiers that "go to 11"
PreSonus has built a reputation for delivering the best-sounding headphone amplifiers available. Each of the four headphone amplifiers loaded in the Monitor Station deliver 150mW and are able to power any headphone with as much loud and clear volume needed for everyone in the band, including the drummer.

For the price of this unit, you can't even get a decent headphone amp. Not only do you get 4 headphone amps, you get a quick and easy way to A/B/C mixes to get that perfect sound in any circumstance(through any speaker set).
We use it in our pro studio next to our Dangerous Monitor ST unit and other than the tiniest bit of coloration... There really isnt $1500 worth of difference to warrant the extra cash. Save your money for better monitors or mics and buy the Monitor Station. Especially if you're working on a home or semi-pro level.
We are glad we have it in our pro studios and I'm sure you'll be glad you have it in your studio.

This price to mute speakers quickly?? does have one amp for AUX input for weak signals and a good way to isolate recorded playback. On a tight budget I would have never considered it but since God has blessed me abundantly I splurged.
I was looking for a device that would take three inputs out to three outputs individually but still be able to mute all with one mute button. The description and the lititure did not mention that all three speakers are the mixed sum of the inputs selected. The individual inputs can not be directed to a particular speaker. But using the Cue output I was able to send the effects alone to the rear speaker.
Stout steal and sturdy but warped, one corner is high, had to use a paper clip to stop it from rocking when I pushed a button.
Pretty high priced for speaker control/mixer when I already have multiple mixing capability through the recorder mixer and a Peavey mixer.

The talkback and headphone outs are pretty cool. The main outs dont sound too bad, but you have no volume control for those. The other outs definately color the sound, but at least you get some volume control there. All in all, i say it works in a pinch, but save your money and go with Dangerous.

I just got this for the control room for my studio at work. HOLY COW this device has simplified a lot of things. I love being able to use one box to manage my control room and studio monitoring. I love being able to patch the studio mix on the CR monitors. I love the 4 headphone outs on the box in addition to the studio send.I love the big bright LED volume read-out. I love being able to calibrate the volume read-out. I love the attenuation controls for all three sets of speakers. I love the built-in talkback system. I love everything about this device. GET ONE! I am going to get another one for my home studio.Everything feels solid and tight and well-built. The manual is very clear and spells everything out with diagrams. After everything is hooked up the device is very intuitive. I love having an analog volume knob for my DAW.One thing to be aware of if you are cheap like me... you have to use balanced TRS cables, not whatever instrument cables you have sitting around. If you use unbalanced TS cables you will hear a non-stop high-pitched whine.

This box has become an invaluable piece of gear in my professional (albeit lower budget) studio. That being said, on to the roast...Sound - Sounds like most of Presonus other gear, mostly transparent. There is some slight coloration, not much mind you. Reproduces accurately enough for most applications. Construction - Solid, typical Presonus work. The travel of the main volume knob is great, lots of room to work with. The resistance of the main knob however is a little light for my taste. The rest of the knobs resistance is fine. Cost - A little high in my opinion, but what isn't? Overall- Nice product that I would buy again (considering the competition, "Big Knob")
