Hi Fi Workhorse

By Al Simons

Comments about QSC GX3 Stereo Power Amplifier:

Had this for four years now ( as of 2011)It stays on constantly in my little teaching studio four days a week, then goes to gigs every weekend. It powers two QSC full range speakers ( in stereo) both in the studio and live. It also sees use as the power amp for a guitar rig when I do LOUD outdoor gigs or BIG theaters. The fidelity is as close to a perfect flat response I've ever seen. I bench tested when new it and continue to test once a year to confirm performance or to demonstrate it to students and friends. It still performs like new after four years of continuous service with no degradation of fidelity or power. The single issue I had with mine was the loud fan. A quick call to QSC got a person on the phone and a replacement within three days; no charge. I own Crest, Crown ( the american made Crowns!) and QSC amps. They're all good! But this QSC performs with the best and costs a lot less. It is my "go-to" solution for guitar rigs and small PAs. It never lets me down. It sounds great. I'm very satisfied with this product and the service I got from QSC.

4 years strong, loud, clean

Comments about QSC GX3 Stereo Power Amplifier:

In my four years of almost daily use, this amp still bench-tests at stated specs. It has powered low-ohm nightmare-subs, full-range PA speakers, guitar rigs, keyboard rigs and studio monitors. It sounds superb and has never even hinted it might fail. I've run it outside in the hot sun. It has spent grueling hours in frozen vans, then immediately powered-up to drive TWO 4 x 12" cabs. Damn... this thing ROCKS!The only maintenance I've given it is to blow out the dust from the cooling-vents one a year with a shop-vac. Considering the smoky, filthy nightclubs it usually works in, it should have died long ago... but it won't die. Seriously... this is one of the best amplifiers on the planet and the price is SO low for this level of performance. For the three-bills I paid over four years, I figure this cost me less than 25-cents a day. That strikes me as a solid value since it EARNS money every night. One gripe: I had a loud fan with mine. That usually was not a problem except in a quiet environment, like a studio. I called QSC, got a real person on the phone in less than 1 minute. He sent me a new fan for free. Super-sound-qualitygreat service,6-year warranty, only three bills andas reliable as the lies of Fox news.THAT is impressive!

SOLD ON QSC!

Comments about QSC GX3 Stereo Power Amplifier:

The sound quality it there with this amp. I'm sold now on QSC and will buy only their amps for any future needs.
I had some extra rack equipment sitting around so I put together a stereo system for my party room. This amp was perfect. I'm runing a mono signal and using the bi-amp function to power two PV118 cabs and two Peavey 15 inch monitor speakers. For pre-recorded music, it's a great set-up. The party room shakes when I turn up the lows. I'm very happy with the quality of this amp. The price was great for what you get.
Well built.
425 watts per side at 4 ohms with bi-amp 100 hz x-over for this price!

QSC GX3 Stereo Power Amp

By Chris LaPlante

from Connecticut

Comments about QSC GX3 Stereo Power Amplifier:

I think the amp is perfect for a medium to large venue/audience setting. It's not too heavy and doesn't take up a lot of space.
I would definitely recommend this amp to anyone who needs some power for their speakers and who is on a budget.
The features are what you expect to find on most modern amps. Haven't had a need for the built in 100 Hz crossover, but when I decide to buy a separate sub I will definitely use it. The one feature I would add is handles on the front for easier mounting.
Built tough, and capable of handling tour use. Love the optional rear rack mounts. The sound quality is crisp and clean. I use the GX3 with a couple of Bose 802's and I just love the sound that it puts out.
Just the right amount of power for my needs without having to sell a kidney to get it. Great value.

Comments about QSC GX3 Stereo Power Amplifier:

I've had this amp for a couple of weeks now & it's doing a great job so far. I bought this one to replace my very old Peavey CS400 for pushing the mains (Kustom KPC215H 2X15 PA Cabinet Pair) I use for rehearsals, & while teaching guitar 2 days a week from my home.

I mostly selected the GX3 because of the choices it gives me with the in/output section, plus more power than the Crown I was comparing it to which sells for the same price. The only plus to the crown was the weight of only around 10 lbs vs the QSC's 25 lbs. But in all other ways, this won.

So far the amps doing a great job, especially since I upgraded my cables going from the outputs on my Tascam mixer to TRS, which is what this amp needs to really sound it's best. The old TS cables worked great with the old amp, but this required the upgrade.

As others have mentioned, I do hear a more distinct sound coming from the fan in this amp. While I wouldn't call it loud, it is more noticeable, but the fans about half the size in this amp compared to the old one. A higher more noticeable pitch is understandable I suppose.

Only time will tell how well the GX3 will hold up. I'm hoping it lasts as long as my Peavey did. I bought it used in 1983!

Comments about QSC GX3 Stereo Power Amplifier:

So far I have not experienced any of the fan noise that some other reviewers complained about. The GX3 is used to power our floor monitors, and does an excellent job, with no unwanted noise that I can detect. Sound quality is very good and although this amp isn't terribly powerful, it's easily powerful enough to run the monitors.
One thing I like about this that helped me decide to buy this over some others is the ease of use. Some other power amps require various different types of plugs, and if you don't have speaker cables with those plugs, you have to spend money on adapters. With the QSC, I can plug my regular 1/4 inch speaker cables right into the power amp and not worry about adapters or having the right type of cable handy. I like making setup and tear down easy, and this amp is very easy to run. Basically just plug it in, turn it on, and you're ready. Larger bands or larger venues may want to consider getting the next step up with more power, but for our band, this works nicely.

      New QSC fanboy

      By Joe Schubel

      from Milwaukee, WI

Comments about QSC GX3 Stereo Power Amplifier:

I started looking around for a performance power amp that was in between crown and Behringer. Now while I consider Crown the holy grail of power amps, I didn't feel like spending the cash for the Harley-Davidson of power amps. So when looking, I actually took a look at this site and their most popular power amps. To me, the majority of the people that visit this site have their head screwed on straight and care about quality products. While a lot of the reviews showed promise for Behringer, my cousin and I currently employ a tube based preamp in my studio, and while it worked flawlessly in the beginning, all the pot's on my preamp are now fuzzy and buzzy. His preamp sucked from day one, buzzing at 60Hz, requiring post process filtering which saps the nuances out of the recording. To sum up my opposition to Behringer, I didn't feel like getting a product that worked well for a year or two, though I just bought a Behringer 8-channel mixer to go with it ($60 and not regretting it yet, but we'll see)Hooking it up to my 6.5" jbl studio s26-ii's, I was blown away by its punch and clarity. Mind you, its normally being driven by an 80W/ch Onkyo (0.08%THD). The speakers had more dynamic to the sound, and it was absolutely fantastic. I had done this while I awaited the arrival of my MTX PA speakers.I bought a pair of MTX TP2400 to go along with it. They are definitely not the greatest speaker out there, but they put out the high SPL sound I was looking for in a live performance. The amplifier drives them pretty well, though I cant help but be slightly disappointed with the result. I am confident that the amp is not the culprit though due to how well it has driven my other smaller studio speakers.I think these cheap PA speakers really show the beauty of the amp though, Its speaker/clipping protection made the music stay at uninterrupted high levels. The other great thing is the 6 year transferable warranty. While I don't really care too much about warranties, Behringer's abysmal 1 year warranty pushed me over to QSC. That's pretty much saying what I think about my current products, they know its too risky to warranty a product longer than a year.I hope you find this info useful, because these guys deserve every sale they get.

Comments about QSC GX3 Stereo Power Amplifier:

I purchased the this amp about a year ago from here that was in a like new condition. I had a gig that was outside that ran for 8 hrs in 95 degree weather. I used this amp in conjunction with a Peavey 1500 and a Yamaha EMX312SC. The Peavey amp and the Yamaha went into thermal overload and stopped working. This QSC was the only one that worked. Its has minimal static noise when at idle and continues to impress me!
