OVERVIEW

Maximum performance and portability with very flexible I/O.

The QSC GX5 Stereo Power Amplifier is ideal for professional entertainers who require maximum performance and portability on a limited budget. QSC designers, headed by Pat Quilter, have optimized output and appearance of the rackmountable GX5 while reducing raw material cost and weight. The GX5 power amplifier provides full performance for 500 watt (Program) speakers and supplies maximum possible power to 4 ohm and 8 ohm loads. Owners of popular 4 ohm loudspeakers (dual-woofer, two-way models and many subwoofers) will find the 700 watt (4 ohm) power of the GX5 an ideal match.

The GX5 power amp uses a Class H system, based on key elements of the PLX Series, almost doubling power in the same size and weight. QSC design expertise allows the output devices to shift from low-power to high-power rails in less than a millionth of a second, ensuring that the output power is always right where it needs to be without excess loss.

Did exhaustive investigating prior to purchase of this amp. Comparisons from crown to behringer and decided on this. Had it for a year now powering subs and mains in a band playing 4-6 gigs a month in temps from -30 to 100. It has never hiccupped. More powerful than wattage indicates. More clean headroom in the amp than the 70 pound dinosaur it replaced that was rated at three times the power output.

Nice Power Amp

By Geoff Wintrup

from california

Comments about QSC GX5 Stereo Power Amplifier:

I just got this amp to replace a crummy Nady one that went bad. It has been excellent so far powering a pair of 15 inch mains and a pair of 12 inch monitors. There are alot of hookup options and plenty of power. I previously bought a Peavey IP3000 and it was a piece of junk. I returned it for the QSC and am really satisfied now. The QSC GX5 is a good choice for a small to mid-sixe PA setup.

    Great Amp!

Comments about QSC GX5 Stereo Power Amplifier:

For my small PA these are more than adequate. Runnig OAP tops with B&C loaded subs which are all 100db + in sensitivity. The amp never gets hot. I use the CX series in my large scale PA but the GX (although an entry level amp) is very nice. Sound is clean and clear and the GX 5 gets loud enough for most applications. I have 8 in my small system. Manual could be better for those who do not know how to use the basic features of an amp, but it really does not get easier than these basic amps. There are poor reviews from some once in a blue moon, but I believe these people do not have the tech skills to set gain structure at the mixer or amp. Use quality gear in the whole chain and NO ADAPTERS and you will not be disappointed.
Easy to use and nice x-over feature for an amp of this price from a very reputable mfg. Only wish x-over was adjustable.
    Made like other QSC products...reliable.

Bought this amp last year hoping it would power our house speakers with a quality, clear sound and have not felt let down. It plays long and loud w/out clipping or giving any problems. If something should happen to this amp I would buy anther to replace it.

Comments about QSC GX5 Stereo Power Amplifier:

We have a pair of QSC RMX 850 amplifiers. When our Carvin amplifier started to go, we knew we had to replace it. We looked at the QSC RMX 850s and saw that the GX5 was the same price.

Wow! What a difference. The GX5 is so much better and cleaner sounding than our old Carvin. It is also more powerful than the RMX 850 amps.

This is a main amplifier for our house auditorium sound. It has performed quite well. I like it so much that the RMX 850's will be replaced with a GX5 and a GX7 when we can afford the spare cash.

Works perfectly for fully powering my 18" Peavey Black widow sub. Low-pass and high-pass filters built in work as expected and make external, expensive, and bulky crossovers completely unnecessary.

Have owned this unit for over a year now...picking up what sounds like a grounding problem static hum. Trashed my very low end radioshack eq and bought a behringer and doing much better but still some hum when not playing any music. At a loss at this point but its bearable...Musicians Friend has been a real bud trying to help me work out the problems. will send them another tech support help me please email. Not overmodulating and don't know if its the amp or not at this point.

Comments about QSC GX5 Stereo Power Amplifier:

I'm a loyal QSC user so when I had to buy a couple of amps to go with some new Yamaha speakers I thought I'd give the new, lower cost GX Series a try. I have to be honest, I wasn't expecting anywhere near this level of quality and performance for this kind of money. I'm REALLY happy with this GX5 and the GX3 that I bought and have no reservations at all about recommending them to anybody who doesn't run their system at 2-ohms or bridging(I'm guessing most of the people reading this review). Great price. Terrific performance. No brainer.

Comments about QSC GX5 Stereo Power Amplifier:

This was my first time ever putting a sound system together. My band's original Phonic Powerpod was dying, so it was time for an upgrade. I was completely new to the power amp area, but I was recommended this amp by a guy at my local Guitar Center. First off, the thing is built like a tank. Little on the heavy side, but not too bad. And for the power you get, it's worth every pound. Man does this thing push!! We're using it to run 2 Peavey Pr-15s (400W handling, 600W peak) and the thing absolutely kills!! We ran it for a good hour at a pretty high volume, and it was completely cool to the touch. This amp has made me a loyal QSC customer. Highly recommended!

Comments about QSC GX5 Stereo Power Amplifier:

This is my first QSC amp. Compared to my other amps: Samson, Crown, and Peavey, this seems to be a good amp. It is somewhat lighter than the others and produces quality sound. The only thing I noticed is the fan is noisier than any other amp I own. I don't know if all QSC amps are that way or the GX line or if it's just mine. It's not a problem when you are actually playing but you can hear it in a church environment between songs.

We have 2 of these for our PA system. 1 drives the S115V Yamaha's (2 inside and 4 outside) and 1 drives our EAW bass bins. Great clean sounds with plenty of headroom. No problem with them overheating even after 6 hours of constant use. They are perfectly sized for our needs and love the fact that they weigh about half of our monitor amp (RMX850). Bottom line is this is a great amp for a awesome price, you cannot go wrong with it!

After extensive research, I decided on the GX5. The quality is great. Can you find lighter, more powerful amps? Yes. Will they self-destruct? Probably. This one has been a work horse so far with no issues whatsoever. I use it for multiple systems but usually pushing a pair of old Peavey SP5Tis 70 percent of the time. I have never had an issue. Don't get me wrong, it is heavy. If it ever breaks, I will probably use it as a boat anchor but I don't foresee it breaking for years and years. I will buy more for larger setups.

GX5 is Powerful and Clean !
I use one channel to power my JBL 15's Mains
and the other channel to power 2-12" floor monitors.
power/Vol knobs has never been past the 1-2 o'clock position.
going to buy one more for a pair of sub-woofers
and get rid of the powered ones.

CON's not that this is a deal breaker
The Fan it a bit loud but once music is going you don't hear it at all.
and these unit are a bit heavy! but its the price you have to pay for a true power rating not like these whimpy D Class Power amps that weigh nothing and say thier 1000 watts but sound like they are really 200 watts

            price is reasonable too!

Good amp but it's vent's fan is so noisy. It's manual should be better written in concise English. I don't know why all electronic industry so cheap not to provided a DVD how to properly Installation.I am willing to pay a hidden charge or charges for it. I went to three or four techs for advise how to install all these amp, Mixer ,two passive speaker and pow er sub. All of them included SQC manufactory expert gave contrary accounts and none work. At the mixer I have to hooked up to the PHONE in order to get the power sub to work but the sound came out extremely terrible no matter how you adjusted these 12 channels mixer.

Comments about QSC GX5 Stereo Power Amplifier:

This power amp has travelled with me through half the country, with some pretty inconsiderate roadies, and run 6 hours a day every day with everything from folk rock to death metal. Never had a single problem. EVER.It usually runs a pair of JBL JRX125 Dual 15" speakers and always provides clear consistent sound. The only reason I gave it 4.5 on features instead of 5 is because you do not have the "bridged mono" option found on most power amps. For a sound engineer that needs to be very flexible, this may be a problem. Still, it is flexible enough with the built in crossover!Great job QSC! I will be buying another to power dedicated subwoofers soon!
