A software/vinyl solution that works without glitches.
The verdict is in: Serato Scratch Live by Rane is way more reliable and easier to use than earlier digital/vinyl interfaces. Using regular turntables or CD players, DJs can scratch and mix files from their Mac or Windows XP computer's CD or hard drive, add in a live mic input for scratching, and even bypass to standard vinyl if you wish. The Rane Serato's unique control screen gives you unprecedented realtime side-by-side visual command with color-coded frequencies so you can distinguish bass and snare hits for flawless beat matching. Serato Scratch Live even lets you control song selection from the vinyl.
The Rane Scratch Live SL 1 interface connects one or two standard vinyl or CD turntables to your computer. This extremely rugged, portable, high quality, bus-powered USB interface features 2 switchable phono or line inputs, a microphone input, 2 line outputs, and pass thru outputs for the phono/line and mic.
The DJ software comes with 12" vinyl records that each have a Serato exclusive control signal which allows Rane Serato Scratch Live to track the motion of the record, simulating the same movement with digital audio. Due to Serato's proprietary control scheme, the result is a feel and sound indistinguishable from playing vinyl. As a producer and DJ, the track you finished today can be played on a real turntable tonight. You'll never have to cut a dubplate again!

If you're new at the DJ gig, you'll find out soon enough how important DEPENDABILITY (and versatility) is. This might cost a 'buck or two' more than you think an interface should but it is great! So solid and easy to use once you get cozy with it.
Buy this and you'll never need vinyl again! The timecode is tight! I see why all the famous Djs use this.
I started playing back when not everybody had a technics 1200 mk turntables, Chad Jackson was DMC world champion and vinyls were the only option really. Me and "my crew" would bring racks and racks of records to our gigs, not just to have all the music options we have but also to show off our collection, which was really cool back then. Looking back, it was funny and barbaric just like alot of stuff in the past. Serato from rane forever changed djing just like the technics 1200 mk's did. It was convinient enough and cheaper already when CD mixers came out, but the feel and hardcoreness of vinyl on a turntable is just irreplaceable. The serato by rane captured that in this product- plain genius to adapt to forever changing technology while keeping in mind the things we love about using vinyl- this product is flawless as far as I'm concerned! There is nothing not to love about it! turntables and serato - I am fortunate to witness this evolution in my lifetime! If you still can't take my word from my 20 years of passion and experience just try it for yourself kids!
Low latency, simple interface and an overall fine product make this light years ahead of it's rival products. No more carrying vinyl to gigs. Downloading those obscure tracks. Nice one Rane Serato, your product is quality.
I must say I had some doubts about this product, but after reading the positive feedback it lives up to its name. I installed the program and used the CDs on my Denon 1200's and I was scratching all my MP3 files in the library. I even took it a step futher.. I converted the Control CDs into MP3 files to use with my Denon 1200's USB mode, so I can store the CDs safe. It worked perfectly. (Using any CDs on CD players sometimes you get disc errors, but not on mp3 files). This product is worth getting if you are scratch happy like me plus you can do more as you'll learn in time. This program is simple and easy to hook up and use.
I picked this up a little over a month and a half ago and I love it. This is a DJ's dream. It sync's flawlessly with my Technics MK5's. If you are debating on getting this like I was, don't wait any longer, this is the best thing a DJ can have...Trust me
I have been a DJ since 1995, with gigs from HS Dances, Weddings to Raves and Outdoor Festivals. When a product comes out that works CONSISTENTLY, such as Technics 1200s or Rane Mixers Shure SM58 Mics, the industry picks up on their reliability. When I first heard about MP3s I was excited, but realized quickly that the reliability of an all-digital music library was an issue. When you're DJing, you CAN'T mess up. Since I've owned Scratch Live, I haven't had one SINGLE issue. Enough said. Reliable, fast, time-saving money maker of a product. Best in the business.
