OVERVIEW

RODE's popular condenser with shockmount, cable and more.

To celebrate 15 years of the RODE NT1 and NT1-A, RODE Microphones has created a revised NT1-A package including a premium shockmount, pop filter, cable, microphone dust cover, and a bonus instructional DVD. Originally released in 1995, the RODE NT1 mic is found in professional and project studios the world over. Its combination of clarity, warmth, extended dynamic range and high SPL capability made it an instant classic with professional engineers and home recording artists alike.

Following heavy investment in precision manufacturing, RODE revised the microphone capsule and electronic design of the NT1, resulting in only 5dB SPL (A-weighted per IEC651) of self noise. Released in 2003 as the NT1-A, it has since become one of the world's biggest selling and most recognizable condenser microphones. Now RODE has truly made the NT1-A the complete recording solution by including a premium shockmount with integrated pop filter, high-quality 6m (20') XLR cable, microphone dust cover and even a bonus instructional DVD. Presented by RODE founder and company president, Peter Freedman, The NT1-A Studio Secrets DVD features a range of tips and techniques to help RODE NT1-A owners get the most from their new microphone.

Simply can't be beat in this price range. It's a good mic, and not just "for the money" either.
My college had a couple sets of these and I liked their smooth sound so much I bought two. I use them predominatnly to record orchestral and/or choral music in a church, meaning that low self-noise (they test at about 6dB, which is waaaay low) is a huge plus -- no hissssssss in the quiet parts. The included shockmount in the package is a huge plus, too, although the pop filter assembly is a bit cheesy if I'm honest -- with the filter plus mic, it gets quite heavy for the little hinge that moutns to the mic stand, so you either have to crank down on the wingnut or accept that it will droop.
Rode build quality is very impressive. The nickel will probably show scratches easily...
The best thing about this mic is that for the price you're getting a fantastically quiet large-diaphragm condenser that blows any others at this price range out of the water. It's not a flat frequency response, though, as it's got a bit of a bright personality with a boost at and above 2khz.

OK But Not Great

Might be OK for recording but using it at home for practice with a Bose PA does not work well. Could not get high frequency feedback under control.

5 star home studio mic

By Saucygent-nJBnj

Comments about Rode Microphones NT1-A Cardioid Condenser Microphone Bundle:

I have a home studio like everyone. Right? I've recently upgraded to the Rode NT1A specifically for vox. I don't have a lot of time for experimentation so this mic is perfect for me. I set it up and it accurately captures my vocalists voice. Period. Accurate. I don't have time for polar patterns and hours to spend finding the right mic position, polar pattern, etc... I have a real job and a life. But I love music and recording. This mic is perfect for me. Set it up and record. For $200 (with coupon)I finally can capture good vocals. My experience rate this mic as a 5 in all categories. The End. No Room For Bill

Comments about Rode Microphones NT1-A Cardioid Condenser Microphone Bundle:

I've had this mic for a little over 7 years now. It's been great. As we all know, this hobby gets very expensive so I wanted to make sure this mic would last. I use this for just about everything. You can record above the drum kit, you can mic the guitar with very clear sounds, vocals are crisp and wood winds sound fantastic.

I would say either spend a grand at least on a mic, or get this one.

Comments about Rode Microphones NT1-A Cardioid Condenser Microphone Bundle:

I just purchased this mic and hooked it up to my GA Pre-73 pre amp and it takes phantom power. I will be using it for vocals only.My voice is mid-rangy so I use a SM-57 instead of the 58 that most people use. This NT1A is very loud and it took a while to calm it down. The eq is flat on my board with just a little bass. With other mics it would be boomy but this Rode is really lush and warm. I was very surprised. It is a very bright mic but you can get any sound you want if you are patient and precise with the eq. Just a touch will make a difference.Everybody says how sensitive it is but I was not expecting it to be this sensitive. It is really a beautiful sounding instrument. When you screw it into the shock-mount ( included ) it ends up facing the side so you have to loosen it a half turn so it will face the front ( a small engineering flaw). For my voice, at least, I couldn't have got a better sounding mic at any price. It's perfect for my vocal range and I love the richness it adds to the overall tone. Perfect.

Comments about Rode Microphones NT1-A Cardioid Condenser Microphone Bundle:

      mm
The bundle provides everything you'd need to mount the mic to a mic stand. My voice is deep, and while people like the sound of my voice live, my voice sounds awful when recorded. After using several vocal mics, I decided to try a condenser mic.

After researching and reading user reviews, I decided on the Rode NT-1A. It's very sensitive so you don't have to get on top of the mic to be heard. The wind screen and shock mount provided with the bundle keep me from getting too close to the mic, and eliminated any "p" popping. I'm very happy with the results. Now my voice sounds more natural and clear on recordings. With other mics, it always sounded like my voice was muffled. The bundle also comes with a good mic cable and DVD with some tips on mic placement, etc. I would recommend this mic especially with the bundle.

Sound quality is great, mic is versatile and adapts easily to different vocals/instruments, it comes with everything you need to get going (except a mic stand, but you really should have one of those by now). Highly recommended.

I just bought this micropphone yesterday, and today is the first day i have plugged it in! I have been looking for a solution for recording guitar. I use 2 SM57(s) on the horn and pan them both left and right for a full mid sound. By doing this, i realized that i was missing bright clearity on top. I added this mic to float between the 2 SM57(s). This microphone did not only catch the high end, it gave me a very nice warm low sound. I have only used this microphone once, however, i enjoyed it so much i had to right a review about it!
A must have for a home studio!

Great buy - very low self noise, bright sounding

        By Michael Joly

        from Cape Cod

Comments about Rode Microphones NT1-A Cardioid Condenser Microphone Bundle:

The Rode NT1a has just about the lowest self-noise of any large diaphragm condenser available. This is important if you?re doing quiet acoustic instrument, dialog or Foley recording. Its downside (and that may not be one for you) is that it is a bright, and somewhat sibilant mic. The headbasket of this mic has a rather unfortunately design - very little open area due to the wire mesh style used. This causes internal headbasket reflections and a bit of a ?gauzy? sound ? even though it is simultaneously bright. But overall, the NT1a is a great value and can be improved with some TLC.

            from Undisclosed

Comments about Rode Microphones NT1-A Cardioid Condenser Microphone Bundle:

The microphone sounds fine, but the shock mount and pop filter is poor. For one thing the powder-coated metal does not make for a tight grip when you turn the adjustment knobs and doesn't quite support the weight of the mic without sagging. So I sanded the surfaces down to improve on that but by that time the pop filter mount had broken off at it's thinnest and weakest point, revealing its chintzy cast metal nature. And no, it wasn't during sanding, it was when I went to put it back together. It broke off like a bread tie. You get what you pay for I guesss. The recordings I made sound good, but now I just need some zip ties or something hold the pop filter on. Not the end of the world, but something to be aware of. Mic quality I give a 4.0, the hardware a 1.0.

I've had this mic for about 6 months now and have been running it in pro tools first with a crappy interface.. and the mic STILL sounds perfect. I tested it with my crappy Line6 UX2 and now just hooked it up to my MOTU 896mk3. The results were absolutely flawless. It is extremely powerful in every aspect and angle. I work with a veteran studio engineer and he was speechless when he found out how cheap this mic costs compared to how it sounds.(i informed him of the price a week after letting him borrow it haha) I would suggest this product to everyone and anyone!! Comments about Rode Microphones NT1-A Cardioid Condenser Microphone Bundle:

Got this to replace my stolen MXL 990/993. Differences between 990 and Rode NT1A (by ear and spectrometer):MXL 990: Boxier sound, boomer bass, not quite as defined in the upper mids to lower end of the highs.NT1A: More defined bass and mids, excellent capture of 4kHz - 8kHz (a very important segment of the voice that carries intelligibility of words). As a result, much less EQ to make words be understood thru a mix with the Rode. Also noticed a lot of tone control by angling the mic differently (which didn't do much for the MXL). No pad/filter, but I certainly don't need them.In all, I'm very happy that I replaced the 990 with this one!

Comments about Rode Microphones NT1-A Cardioid Condenser Microphone Bundle:

I am coming from the MXL 990 for doing mainly voice narrations and podcasts. I wanted to try something a little bit nicer and see how much better the voice recordings came out. I recorded my first podcast with it, did the editing and sat back to listen to the finished product. Mind you, listening while editing is one thing, but sitting, relaxing and listening to the end result was mindblowing. Instantly I heard a brightness and fullness that I didn't realize was missing from previous recordings. Truly, I thought that the MXL 990 was a decent mic, and still do. But you do see what a difference a better quality microphone brings to the table. For smaller budgets, this is one microphone that you should not ignore!

Makes my Taylor GS Mini and Washburn Mandolin sound amazing acoustically with no unwanted extra noise. I was also suprised that some extra sounds I could hear with my naked ears do not show up when I recorded with it, yet it still captures the full sound of my instruments and voice. A must for beginner and expeirienced people recording music.
