Eight premium mic preamps, compact I/O, pristine sound quality

Combining ten inputs, ten outputs, and eight VS PREAMPS with transparent 24-bit/192 kHz audio quality, the Roland OCTA-CAPTURE sets a new standard for portable USB 2.0 audio interfaces. High-level audio production is made possible with this fusion of premium components, Roland-quality engineering, and proprietary preamp and streaming technology. OCTA-CAPTURE is not only a great interface for multi-channel computer-based production, but also a perfect solution for expanding the I/O capability of the V-STUDIO 700 and V-STUDIO 100.

Eight Premium Mic Preamps
OCTA-CAPTURE boasts eight premium-grade digitally controlled mic preamps (VS PREAMPS), built with the same high-grade components as the preamps in the V-STUDIO 700 and M-400 V-Mixer. Eight XLR inputs are provided for the preamps, plus independent phantom power, low-cut filter, phase invert, and digital compression for each channel.

Auto Input Level Adjustment
Simply activate the AUTO-SENS feature with the push of a button, play your connected instruments, and OCTA-CAPTURE automatically sets the ideal recording level for each input. It's great for quick, fail-safe audio capture when recording either a fully mic'd drum kit or an entire band.

Extreme Low-Latency Driver
OCTA-CAPTURE offers stability and industry-leading low-latency USB performance via Roland's proprietary VS STREAMING technology. All current Mac and PC DAW platforms are supported through ASIO 2.0/WDM (Windows) and Core Audio (Mac) drivers. Thanks to VS STREAMING, you can use multiple devices (two OCTA-CAPTURE units or one OCTA-CAPTURE plus a V-STUDIO 100 or V-STUDIO 700) on the same USB bus without compromising stability, performance, or audio quality.

Four Flexible Monitor Mixes
OCTA-CAPTURE offers four independent Direct Mixers for creating software-controlled monitor mixes. Each mix can be routed to any of the analog outputs and can take advantage of the internal 40-bit DSP processing - perfect for sending custom monitor mixes to headphones, speakers, or recording devices.

FEATURES
  • Eight premium mic preamps built in (VS PREAMP)
  • AUTO-SENS function intelligently sets optimal input levels for all preamps
  • Extremely stable low-latency VS STREAMING driver
  • Four independent software-controlled Direct Mixers for creating custom monitor mixes
  • Supports all major DAW platforms on Mac or PC, including OSX 10.6 and Windows 7, through ASIO 2.0/WDM (Windows) and Core Audio (Mac) drivers
  • Rackmount ears included

Comments about Roland Octa-Capture 10X10 USB Audio Interface:

Set up was painless. Works just like you think it should! The sound quality is solid, layout and operation are easy to understand and versitle. Makes capturing live sound in the jam room and live easy, and with a little touch up the auto sense (barring sand bagging by guitarists, hence the touch up) is a great feature that gets you surprisingly close quickly. Bravo Roland!

Comments about Roland Octa-Capture 10X10 USB Audio Interface:

My maudio mobile pre has always been limiting with only 2 inputs, however what pushed me to a new interface was that maudio stopped making drivers for the interface and it became incompatible with El Capitan.

I really wanted something portable but with more inputs, the 8 analog inputs for the Octacapture is a great start. One of the things that really convinced me to buy this interface is it's ability to be used stand alone. You can disconnect it from your computer and use it with stand alone compression, reverb, panning and levels. This is great for someone trying to do some small live performances that might have to exclude a laptop.

On larger stages where a laptop is not frowned upon, this audio interface is such a great tool. Sending each module into it's own channel and utilizing Abletons vast array of fx and mastering utilities is a really great way to make a sound shine.

I utilize my Octacapture with a Eurorack synthesizer, sending the outputs directly into the interface, no attenuation or sub mixers needed.

Comments about Roland Octa-Capture 10X10 USB Audio Interface:

When my MOTU Hybrid started actin snarky, I looked around for a replacement. Those good people over at Focusrite had a decent idea, but it didn't do everything I needed (and apparently isn't designed to, shame on you Focusrite) and I sent it back. I lived with snarkiness for another couple months until the MOTU's eventual demise, and started looking around again. Enter the Octa-Capture. Easiest install ever, does everything required right outta the box. Didn't have to tweek, adjust settings, nothin. Loaded the software, plugged it in, turned it on, two minutes of checking this and that and DONE. Only gripe is that the small main vol knob and the big mix vol knob need to be swapped. Once again, Roland comes thru for me. I'm sending you folks my resume, I wanna work for people like you.

After extensive soul and web searching for an upgrade from my audiobox. I decided to put forth the extra cash and give this a shot.
Running a macbook pro with 10.9.5 Maverick it was up and running in no time flat! And I haven't looked back since.
          User friendly interface and manual.
Has risen the bar on the many more possibilities I now have at my disposal.

Comes with Ableton Live Lite instead of Sonar now, but wasn't a big deal because I already have a DAW I am comfortable with.

Comments about Roland Octa-Capture 10X10 USB Audio Interface:

Just got finished making a record with this thing. I've worked with various home setups for many years and this unit has given me the best results by far. I don't know if the preamps are quite suitable for pro recording, but considering the price point they get you surprisingly close.

It's extremely easy to use; I think I figured out everything I needed to know for recording in about five minutes. On top of that, it weighs almost nothing and yet is built very solidly. I suspect it would survive a fall onto hard tile, though I'm obviously not going to test that theory.

Roland's ultra-low latency technology performs as advertised, and I have yet to have a single issue with compatibility (Mac or PC, I use both) or reliability. The Octa-Capture is a rare beast: a sophisticated device that is packed with functionality, without being delicate or temperamental in the slightest. I doubt you could find a better unit for under a thousand. I'm guessing that there are some over a thousand that aren't as good as this.

Comments about Roland Octa-Capture 10X10 USB Audio Interface:

I got the OctaCapture to add more channels to my existing rig, and it exceeded my expectations.

It sounds better than my Steinberg MR816 but can't touch my Metric Halo ULN-8. It is easier to navigate and set the input channel (which is fully featured) than either of the other two, which is impressive given the tiny size of the unit. While I might've expected the Roland to be delicate due to its size, it is actually bordering on ruggedness.

The combo xlr/line/instrument inputs are so user friendly, they should be on all interfaces. The display window, while small, is backlit, easily understood and well thought-out for each function or page being viewed. Getting to those pages is quite easy (one or two button pushes, usually).

Back to the sound quality. It's clearer than the Steinberg and more open, while at the same being a little bit silky, which I think is due to the preamps. It is borderline good enough to be used professionally and if you wanted to use it for paid studio work, I don't think most people would argue or complain when they heard the result.

For the money, I don't feel the need to look elsewhere. Other comparable units in the price range might be its equal or possibly better, but I don't think this unit leaves anything to be desired.

Comments about Roland Octa-Capture 10X10 USB Audio Interface:

I did quit a bit of research on this item and found a lot of information and good ratings. Although it does come with Sonar LE DAW and the drivers I downloaded the latest drivers from Roland and I all ready had SONAR X1 installed in my PC. The SONAR products interfaces nicely.

Unless you are familiar with this product or one like it, it really does pay off to read the Octa-Capture manual and Readme Files. Note: unless your USB 3.0 is backward compatible to 2.0 the Readme file says it might not work. Also, study your DAW software interface and the hardware interfaces you will be using. Once I figured everything out, this unit worked nice using the Audio recording, playback and MIDI interfaces.

Again if this is your first time with this kind of Audio Capturing it can be kind of overwhelming but worth every minute of ramp up learning. Just keep hacking at it. The Octa-Capture and SONAR DAW interfaces work well together.

NO, this does NOT have the features of a unit costing more than 4 times the cost however, so far the Octa-Capture is worth every bit I paid for it.

I wish I had these tools when I was younger and more serous in "MAKING IT". Now, I am considered a senior citizen.

My wife has to pry me out of my Home Studio. I think she's jealous because I'm having too much fun.

Comments about Roland Octa-Capture 10X10 USB Audio Interface:

I've owned the Octa-Capture for about eight months now, and I love it. The reason I purchased it was that I run Cakewalk's Sonar X2, and seeing as Roland is a part of Cakewalk, they are pretty much made for each other.

Right out of the box, the drivers were easy to install, and I was up and running in about 20 minutes total from the time I hooked it up. Seems to be solidly made. Thankfully, I haven't dropped it yet to find out.

The auto-sens feature is a really nice touch. Once you have all your mics hooked up, press the auto-sens button and play away for a bit, and the octa-capture automatically sets your input levels.

Bottom line is that I am very happy I bought the Octa-Capture. I'm currently planning to add a second one to piggyback onto it, so that I can run a full 16 tracks simultaneously.

Comments about Roland Octa-Capture 10X10 USB Audio Interface:

The Octa Capture does what it is marketed to do.
                Easy install, quiet interface.
                Very low latency.
                Solid built.
                Tons of ins and outs.
                Super easy
                Low learnign curve.
Right size for desktop and travel although not an entry level device.
This unit is pretty straight forward. Nvrer owned another one so this is my first time. What I liked was simplicity. So far I have barley looked at the manual. After the driver download its just pretty much tun it on and plug stuff in.

Bottom line is it works well and is quient and stable
Quality seems rock solid like most other Roland products I own. I am not concerned with Quality issues. This one was built in Japan, another reason I chose this product.
