Bring distortion under control.

The Rolls Matchbox DB25b gives you a direct box—changing high to low impedance—pad, and ground lift all in one. An attenuator built into the Rolls DB25b cuts the signal from speaker or line outputs, so the audio mixer input does not distort.

This is a great idea!I love the way I can mount this behind my amp and run an XLR cable to the mixer with nothing on the floor or on top of my amp.The reason for my title, "I want to like it" is because of the frequency response. Since I'm a bass player who uses a 5-string, I need to push frequencies as low as 30.9 Hz (low B string). The Rolls DB25b has a frequency response rating from 50 Hz to 15K Hz. This is a deal breaker.Don't get me wrong, I'm not giving this item a bad review. It's an otherwise great item. It simply can't work for playing bass notes under 50 Hz. The upper end, 15K Hz is still within the threshold of critical frequencies, even for bass. A good bass tone is not only comprised of the first fundamental, but also upper harmonics which give it character. If these are missing, then your tone is like a shaved cat...still a cat, but missing critical details which define it.This Rolls DB25b can't cut it for professional bass guitar.

All the features previously listed by others are correct. However, for me, the signal output is very weak. I send from a Rainsong to the DB, use the lift, and output into my church sound system (very high quality). I've tried different cords, checked the battery in the Rainsong to no avail. I turn the attenuation up as high as it will go and get some sound, but barely enough for the PA to amplify. The same guitar and high impedance cord work well through a variety of guitar amplifiers. I cannot get any help or suggestions from Rolla. I have to give this a mediocre rating. It has all the features and does work, but just not well for me. Perhaps a resistor or diode in mine came defective?
see above
I'd give it a 10 if the output was strong enough

Rolls DB25b Matchbox Direct Box/Pad/Ground Lift

By Rick Whiting

from Oklahoma

Comments about Rolls DB25b Direct Box/Pad/Ground Lift:

As I stated above, had I known that the pad's lowest setting was -20db, I probably would have passed on this and ordered another DB 25. I have this in a circuit where I'm using a vocal effect whose output is just too hot to have unattenuated. Our "sound man" just couldn't seem to figure it out so I decided to do what I could to fix the issues he was having in the mix and let me continue to use my effect. I currently use a Rolls DB25 to attn the signal at -20db. It helps to dampen the signal and knock out some of the hiss. I was hoping to use the DB 25b to attn the signal between 0db to -20db
However, with that said, since I already have a Rolls Matchbox DB 25 that I've used for several years, I can see where this will probably come in handy for other uses down the road.
The pad starts at infinite and goes to -20db as it's lowest attn setting. If you need less attenuation, then you will need to stay away from the DB 25b and go with the standard DB 25. I was disappointed that the pad didn't go down to 0 db. The ground lift has been a blessing more than once.
As with all the Rolls Matchbox products, the quality is great!
A good value for what it does as compared with others.

Comments about Rolls DB25b Direct Box/Pad/Ground Lift:

Does a fine job for out electonic piano The fact that it is mountable with just 4 little screws really sold me. Put in rght into the piano stand so it will never get lost and all I need is a short little instr. cable to reach it. Very happy- would do it again.

Extremely versatile tool

Comments about Rolls DB25b Direct Box/Pad/Ground Lift:

I frequently need to feed a mixer into a house PA system. This is perfect for simply plugging into a handy microphone jack. It's an extremely versatile tool that every sound person should carry, at a very good price.

Big product in a little box!

By az_saxman

Comments about Rolls DB25b Direct Box/Pad/Ground Lift:

A soundman turned me on to the DB25. He let me use his for the night and I was impressed. I bought one and was so pleased I bought two more. They're so small you can fit them into tight places. With metal casings, they're almost indestructible. I program music and play it on my gigs. The audio signals coming from the sound modules were too hot for some mixers, so the -20db and -40db pads do the job nicely. They also have a ground lift that works great if you're getting a buzz from one of your sends. You can't beat them for the price. I tried to find one today here in Phoenix, but couldn't. So I'll be ordering a couple more.

Comments about Rolls DB25b Direct Box/Pad/Ground Lift:

I own several of these, and they work wonderfully. The only feature I think is missing is the ability to accept speaker level inputs. But the very low price makes this an excellent buy. The best feature is it's small size - I can keep many of these in my audio tool box.

The best thing I have come across in Direct Boxes.

Comments about Rolls DB25b Direct Box/Pad/Ground Lift:

My wife and I are music evangelists. We use our own sound equipment when going into other churches. Many times the churches need a line feed for broadcast or other reasons. I have used other direct boxes before at different churches, but nothing compares to the Rolls Matchbox. I am ordering three today.

Comments about Rolls DB25b Direct Box/Pad/Ground Lift:

I was presenting a "video" from my laptop through a projector and into a theater sound system. We were unable to get any usable audio signal until I was lucky enough to borrow one of these. We instantly had perfect audio. WOW! I gotta get me one of these!!
