You will see mixed reviews with this mic strewn over a guitar cab. Some love it, other's prefering the SM57. As a gigging drummer I will tell you this is the nicest tom mic I've encountered to date. Small tom, large tom and everything in between...this bad boy captures the entire shell and top and bottom heads. The cardoid pattern is similar to the 57 but the side address gives it a "broader" spectral over the head placement and pick up. Do be cautious as to what clips you purchase to accomodate (if not using stands) as it can hang over the tom to the point of interference. I chose this over the Audix D2/D4 because it is clearer and more versatile. Extremely affordable and requires very little EQ at the board. I prefer them over the e604 which is their clip-marketed tom mic. Sounds very similar to the 421 but with more defined highs which is what I want in a live enviroment. I hope this mic doesn't follow recent Sennheiser trends of being discontinued because it truly is a gem on toms.

I'm comparing this mic to a 57. I often use both for recording guitar, and mix them together. For distorted guitar, it seems to lack the balls that the 57 has. It does a better job than the 57 for the high end, which is good for clean sounds, but in my opinion it doesn't sound that good for the distorted sounds I've used it on. It's probably better as a live mic or maybe a live recording mic if you want to cut down on bleed.

Comments about Sennheiser e 609 SilverDynamic Guitar Microphone:
We use this to mic an old upright piano in a bar setting. Great sound from quiet empty room all the up to cranked to compete with a pub crawl. Just gaff tape the cable to the back of the piano and hang it down, protect the back with a piece of foam. Works great.

Comments about Sennheiser e 609 SilverDynamic Guitar Microphone:
I used to use SM57 on my recordings and for live performance but after working with this Senheiser, things changed. Now for recordings I use both (Senheiser and SM57) and for live only Senheiser.
Highly recomended for any guitarrist!

Comments about Sennheiser e 609 SilverDynamic Guitar Microphone:
I use two amps onstage. I got one of these mics and put it on one amp and it made all of my other guitar mics sound muffled. I have in ear monitors and compared it to an Audix and the Shure and I was amazed at the difference in sound. I thought the other mics sounded great until I plugged this one in. This mic reproduces my guitar sound FAITHFULLY, I mean that the signal coming out of the PA and monitors actually sounds like what I hear standing in front of my cab. I really was quite surprised and pleased. And the price is very reasonable, less than most other popular instrument mics. In fact, now I can't stand my other mics and want another one (or two) right away!

Comments about Sennheiser e 609 SilverDynamic Guitar Microphone:
This mic performs as described, similar response curve to a fifty-seven, a bit smoother in the high mids, and handles high sound pressure well. I have used it live a few times now on guitar and snare drum, have not recorded with it yet but will try that soon. I love the profile, now I can eliminate the mic stand that usually sits in front of my guitar cabinet onstage. Good value, the only thing that caught my attention quality-wise was the casing that runs around the screens is composite, I would prefer an all-metal casing, but no big deal. I am easy on my gear but time will tell if the composite is rugged enough to handle lots of gigging.

Came with no invoice I was unable to be reimbursed. MF after a month has still not addressed the problem. That's after several calls emails and a letter. The Mike is good but don't count on service's

Comments about Sennheiser e 609 SilverDynamic Guitar Microphone:
The mic does a great job of recording guitars clean or distorted. It has been my experience that you need to experiment with placement to achieve a useable tone. My first run in the "classic" 4 o clock postion gave me perfect clean recordings but was too muddy on the distortion. Explore different placements and this mic will put your amps true tone in your recordings.Overall its a great mic for the money.

Comments about Sennheiser e 609 SilverDynamic Guitar Microphone:
I've heard positive and negative comments about this mic. Truth is either they don't really know how to use them or their sound engineer lacks experience or maybe their PA is not to good. Either way we use these great little mics on all our guitar amps on stage and in the studio as well and they sound amazing. They reach the full range of our lead and rhythm guitars.

This is the only mic anyone needs or should be using on their guitar cabinet. I used to use a sm57 but saw that most of the pros were using these so I wanted to give it a try. I am so glad I did. almost perfect represention of my actual guitar tone. Loud and clear. Hands down you need this if you are a performing guitar player.

Comments about Sennheiser e 609 SilverDynamic Guitar Microphone:
I have used a Shure 57 for years to mic my amp. I decided to try the E609. I play in a large church each week, (2000 members). We play a wide variety of music. The sound men all said that "The guitar has never sounder better". I highly recommend this mic.
Easy to use. I draped it directly over the amp.
Good value.
Comments about Sennheiser e 609 SilverDynamic Guitar Microphone:
I've long been at the mercy of whatever a sound guy decides to put on my rig, which ALWAYS involves a stand I end up kicking over. A few months ago a sound guy hangs his E609 over my amp, and like magic, I have space to move and my amp is crystal clear through my monitor. I got my own as soon as I could for gigs where we set up our own PA and for recording. LOVE this mic.
