This product is terrible. I know this is a low end product from Sennheiser, but the quality is absolutely awful. I am an experienced live sound engineer, and I've tried all sorts of things to try to make it sound better. Nothing works. The feedback and signal dropouts are unavoidable. This was a complete waste of money.
I get sick and tired of folks wanting top end goods for average venues. Unless you are playing huge auditoriums, this item does fine. In areas covering 100 feet, all works very well with this product. No drop outs within this range. The sound is fine if you know your gear. If you are a pro, you can figure out your sound. Never blame the tool, blame the craftsman. EX, You don't need a nail gun to hammer a nail, you need to know how to use the nail.
Sennheiser freePORT. I bought this to use in Prison ministry. We meet in a gym with lots of noise from the lights and fans, so what I really want is something that is reliable. This unit never cut out the whole weekend (except when the battery died). However, I did not use it as a lavaliere at it did not seem to work well that way. You need to sing/speak into the mic, so I mounted it a cheap old headset I had (cut the old mic off and used the old windscreen). The only time I got a fraction of feedback was when I walked directly in front of the speakers (most people probably did not notice). I am now looking for a real headset mic to plug into this unit. I actually bought 2 of these, and the other one I plugged into my guitar or bass (I used a standard mini connector to 1/8" connector on my instruments.) Unlike other wireless units I've tried, both my guitar (Ovation w/active electronics) and my bass (passive) sounded great and I wandered all over the gym playing and singing with out a problem. One caveat: There is a click through the sound system when you turn on and off the sending unit so if that matters, don't get these. For the price, I've not found a better system.
I recently purchased this unit for an outdoor wedding. Thinking if it would get me by, I would look into purchasing a higher end lavalier set. I was blown away by the sound quality. Got several comments from those in attendance on how clear the minister was. Probably a hundred in attendance, outside. Only complaint is the length of the cable from mic to transmitter. Not sure why they make them so long.
Bought 2 of these units. Have played indoors and several outdoor gigs. One gig outdoors in heart of city. Absolutely no interference, excellent range and tonal reproduction of acoustic electric Gibson and Fender Strat. I'm impressed and a great value
