Just got these in and I am WOWd. I am a home studio guy- macbook pro, mbox 2, protools LE, lots of presonus and focusrite, joe meek, neumann and evolution sennheiser mic locker. I use this out of the mbox 2 and into a presonus HP4 headphone amp for myself and the band when we practice. We record a lot of practices which become songs. These headphones are a hit-- the attenuation has stopped the click track from bleeding into my TLM67 (killer mic btw). I even mix on these as the soundstage is pretty even. The dynamic range is excellent and very low self-noise...I get punchy drums that are clearly distinguised from my bass players thundering lows. They fold up flat into the cases after the session. detachable cable, works with my iPod too (adapter included). Great value, amazing sound (as to be expected from Sennheiser). Bite the bullet and get 1 quality headphone that will last forever and give you a great REFERENCE sound rather than going through 10 pairs of cheap headphones. GREAT JOB SENNHEISER-- the resarch paid off and this is a true RECORDING STUDIO WORTHY CAN.

On first listen, the thing that sticks out is low frequency. There is incredible depth and separation. However, up in the high frequencies things really start to bleed and around 5kish is exaggerated which make my ears hurt at volume. Very comfortable and they make a nice seal around the ear. But as I write this, I'm listening to some of my favorite tracks, and know how they "should" sound, but they sound like a poorly tuned club system with frequencies running all over the place.

Absolutely fantastic

Comments about Sennheiser HD 380 PRO Headphones:

I just bought these today after trying them out beside the AKG K240 studio headphones and Sony MDR 7509 HD studio headphones, and it only took about five seconds of Clapton's "Run Back to Your Side" from his new self title album for me to decide which were better. I love them for personal mixes and just jamming some tunes. The picture makes them look kind of ugly, but they are better looking when they are right in front of you, but thats just my opinion. The best thing is hearing crap you didn't know existed on your favorite records and hearing those nuances in all their glory through these.

Great headphones for the price.

Comments about Sennheiser HD 380 PRO Headphones:

I currently own a set of Sennheiser HD590's and wanted something with a great similar sound but with a closed back to prevent the surounding noise from affecting my listening of the music. Tried a pair of another brands headphone, at about the same price but they were no where near the clarity. These HD 380pro are fairly new and more than I wanted to spend, but well worth the cost. Great fit (snug and stays put with any movement) built solid, but most important is the quality of the sound. Nice full sound that is perfectly clear and crisp accross the full extended spectrum.

A new Aural experience...

By MusicIsLife-EqQkM

from Boston, MA

Comments about Sennheiser HD 380 PRO Headphones:

I saw these at my local music store and, since my previous Sennheiser HD280 met an untimely death thanks to my new puppy, I thought I'd upgrade. My first impression when I opened the box was that these were much lighter than my HD280 and my Beyer's. These are feather weights on your head and I can wear them for long periods of time without needing to take a break. The build quality doesn't seem as heavy duty as the HD280, but the comfort factor is higher so I will gladly take the trade off. The sound quality of these is incredible. I went through 1/2 of my music collection, listening to tracks and picking up on nuances that were previously buried. I've owned a good amount of headphones, Sennheiser included, and I have to say that these give the best stereo imaging that I've experienced so far. I'm impressed with this "upgrade" and anticipate an enjoyable listening experience for many years to come. One other thing I like about these.... the cable is easily replaced. With the new puppy, I can picture a cable getting chewed if I leave these out of the case. At least I won't need to buy a whole new set if he latches onto the cable. If you listen for long periods of time or are looking for a comfortable, non-fatiguing pair of headphones - put these on your list. You won't regret it!!

Comments about Sennheiser HD 380 PRO Headphones:

I'm writing this because I noticed that the last review was a couple of years ago. These headphones have a pretty damn flat response and isolate very well. They are snug but dont pinch your head as much as the HD 280's do. I can wear these much longer. They also fold up much nicer and come with a great carrying case. I'd say they are priced just about right. The cord is part strait and part coily which works well for me. If these fail on me, however, I'll probably spend a little more money and go with the Denon AHD 2000 which have incredible specs for the price.

Comments about Sennheiser HD 380 PRO Headphones:

These are great studio headphones. I got them mainly for electronic drum playback. They work great for this purpose because they block a good amount of outside noise and have good quality sound at a high volume. They've also been used for DJ, Live sound, music production, etc.

The one downside is that the nice leathery coating on the pads has worn out after 2-3 years, now it flakes off and leaves black spots on everything. It may be starting to loose some noise reduction. The sound is still great and the plug has withstanded a lot of use.

Comments about Sennheiser HD 380 PRO Headphones:

OK, I own a recording studio and I was on the hunt for the holy grail... just a simple analog FLAT set of phones to record and mix with. Well after reading hundreds of reviews I ordered these (the first set came in broke but Musicians Friend has a 45 days return for defective products and Sennheiser also has a 2 year warranty on all their gear. Does this mean they are fragile? I'll update after the second pair come in) First the good news, I have NEVER heard tones that takes my 2k sub to deliver! How did they do it!! I literally hear tones way below normal speakers or any headphones. Not only do they delivery these signals but they are very distinct and even, just amazing. Just like having a sub on your head! Cool! Ok the bad news, these will NOT fulfill the quest for the perfectly flat cans for recording and mixing BUT I will use them a TON. First I will use them when the bass is being recorded, second I'll use them as a "back up" mix down, as they start to give me what will come out of the sub. (in the end, you got to get off the headphones and get on speakers to really get the mix right) AND I'm using these sometimes just to listen back, as I'm a bass nut. I want to feel the music and it's really cool to hear a sub in the headphones, just amazing! But since the bass is enhanced, the highs have to be EQed up to match the lows. It's very nicely done giving a very warm and pleasant overall sound. But any time you EQ the highs and lows you will lose some of the mids, where 90% of the music resides. Also, any EQ on cans will cause much quicker ear fatigue while making the mix down more difficult.

Comments about Sennheiser HD 380 PRO Headphones:

I got these to use for FOH mixing and channel mixing with my PA. Excellent noise isolation and reproduction. A little boost on the bass, but it is a uniform boost at least to 40 Hz (I don't have anything lower than an E in my mixes), which helps cut through any background vibrations in a live seetting. The highs and high mids have excellent seperation and clarity without getting shrill. I ended up using these to mix with for the same reason. I also use them to practice bass with. Excellent multi-purpose cans. Similar to the HD280 but in the HD380 the bass has an extended uniform frequency response. The highs and high mids are tighter in the HD380 also.

I have relied on Sennheisers for over 30 years. There is no doubting their fantastic sound quality.
All products wear out eventually. My HD280 phones finally packed it in. They had the most comfortable ear pads.
The HD380 phones deliver the same unmatched quality yet I am disappointed by the skimping on quality of ear pads which will prove uncomfortable after a few hours use.

I mix on the go with these and my ultimate ear UE7 in ears. They sound great for casual listening, lots of low end response but they can be a tad harsh in the upper midrange around 2-4kHz causing you to mix a bit dull in that area. For the price you can't beat them though. Overall they sound great.

Comments about Sennheiser HD 380 PRO Headphones:

The HD 380 PRO is a great set of headphones. Quality sound reproduction with an excellent ambient noise reduction level. I already had the 280's, but thought I'd go up a model and see what the difference was. They're lighter, and don't hold themselves on with as much force as the 280's which is good and bad depending on the situation. They come with a case and a replaceable cord. Both are a huge bonus. I use the 280's and the 380's for tracking in the studio and editing music. The 380's are crystal clear when you need to get in and work on a particular part of an audio file.
