I quit a band in Canada because I had to transfer to North Carolina. I'm a musician and sound guy. There were four vocalists in the band I was in while in Canada. All of us had Shure Beta 58A microphones. Running sound with Shure Beta 58A vocal microphones was never a problem for setting levels, repeatibility, and predictability. After coming to NC, the guys all had El-Cheapo Behringer mics, or Shure SM 58 mics. We had feedback problems, I was having to push levels up very high for the guys to hear them through the mains and monitors and it was a battle between getting the levels high enough to hear the vocals or low enough to prevent feedback. Finally, I told them to all get Shure Beta 58A microphones or don't plan on hooking your crap through the board any more. They did. It was a major difference.I swear by these microphones. Many of the touring musician/singers in Nashville and L.A. use the Shure Beta 58A microphones when they are on concert tour. Why? Because you can own them for years, drive nails with them, and sound guys NEVER have a problem getting these microphones to be in the mix. Especially if the instrument levels are up and you need to get the vocal microphone levels up, these Shure Beta 58A microphones are up to the task. Believe me. I'm a sound guy for many years.

I've been a guitarist for 13 years and my father has been a drummer and guitarist since 1962. For at least a decade his Shure Beta 58a was his "go to" live mic. We planned on purchasing 3 more Beta 58s for our studio/performance space, but right before biting the bullet I decided to see what else is out there. After reading a lot of reviews I decided to try two other mics: Electro-Voice N/D767a ($129) and Heil Sound PR-35 ($274). We now own both. First the Electro Voice (EV) arrived. We could not believe how much better it sounded than the SM58. Clearer and more powerful than the Beta 58a. Dad immediately swore off his old Shure. The next day the Heil arrived. It was hotter and beefier than both the EV and the Shure. Now we both have our own Heil PR-35, and the EV is used by guest vocalists. If you can afford it, get the Heil PR 35, it's a big sounding vocal mic, but if you can't afford it get the EV N/D767a. Both mics sound a lot better than the Beta 58a, which is lifeless and boring in comparison. Plus the EV is less expensive than the Shure. The Beta 58a may be a step up from the SM58, but it's a step down from the EV or the Heil. The Shure has been retired to a box as a backup.

Comments about Shure Beta 58A Mic:
I like to stream video/audio via online at home. I have an audio device that I hook my mic, guitar, and keyboard. this microphone is amazing in the studio, and my audience enjoy it. I also use it on stage, which sounds great. It picks up my mid range frequencies and my breathy low-mid frequencies.

Comments about Shure Beta 58A Mic:
Just bought my second Beta 58. First one bought circa mid 80's and still kicking butt. These mics bring out the nuances and lows in my voice. My singing sounds like geese farts on a muggy day when using other mics. The Beta58 makes me want to talk and talk and talk. Now, the band hates me. :-)
BTW, I've never experienced any feedback issues or picking up unwanted sounds from drum kits, basses, and guitars. Even on postage stamp sized stages ( and we've ALL been there before.......or still)
This mic is danged near indestructable! Mine has spent a significant amount of time on the floor as well as getting smashed into my teeth by drunken dancers in a SMALL venue with no stage.

Comments about Shure Beta 58A Mic:
I've played gigs part time (vocals and guitar)playing oldies, rock, folk and country for over 40 years. This mic sounds louder and clearer than even my Shure Super Pro. Excellent mic for the money.
Comments about Shure Beta 58A Mic:
I am not an industry person, just a dumbass guitar player. But I have 20 years of experience playing live and this is the one that get's it done.
I have been down the road with an number of other products, including Sennheiser e935, Audix and others and found my way back home to the BETA 58A to see it for the first time, and wish I never left. I have a Super 55 as well. Very unforgiving mic. Just keep it simple, because most sound men have their tone controls glued into position. I have learned my lesson about coloring outside the lines. It doesn't work. Stick with the 58, or better yet, the Beta 58A

I paid more, and got less before.
Comments about Shure Beta 58A Mic:
bbb
I think there is plenty of positive press out there for this mic already so I really can't add much to acolades taht you have not already heard. I have owned a couple of regular SM58's for over 20 years and they are still working great and have out lasted many Audio Technica's and EV's. So when I was looking for a new vocal mic I thought I would give the Beta a try and I have not been dissappointed in the least. Top notch vocal mic. Very rugged and very powerfull.
