Shure

Fantastic for live vocal applications!

If you want your vocals to be heard, the Shure Beta 58A Mic is built to make it happen. It's a high-output, supercardioid dynamic microphone designed for professional sound reinforcement and project studio recording. This has made it a leading choice among vocalists and touring musicians worldwide.

The Beta 58A maintains a true supercardioid pattern throughout its frequency range (50Hz-16kHz) and a shaped frequency response that is ideal for close-up vocals. Its neodymium magnet provides high sensitivity and output. The superb performance of this microphone is not affected by rough handling because of its rugged construction, proven pneumatic shockmount system, and hardened steel mesh grille. So whether you hold it in your hand or mount in on a stand, you'll get the kind of sound you planned.

Features

  • Frequency response tailored for vocals, with brightened midrange and bass roll-off to control proximity effect
  • Uniform supercardioid pattern for high gain before feedback and superior rejection of off–axis sound
  • Neodymium magnet for high signal–to–noise output
  • Hardened steel mesh grille that resists wear and abuse
  • Advanced pneumatic shock mount system that minimizes transmission of mechanical noise and vibration
  • Minimally effected by varying load impedance

Beta 58A Thumbs Up

Features:

I have been down the road with an number of other products, including Sennheiser e935, Audix and others and found my way back home to the BETA 58A to see it for the first time, and wish I never left. I have a Super 55 as well. Very unforgiving mic. Just keep it simple, because most sound men have their tone controls glued into position. I have learned my lesson about coloring outside the lines. It doesn't work. Stick with the 58, or better yet, the Beta 58A

Really Great Mic

I think there is plenty of positive press out there for this mic already so I really can't add much to acolades taht you have not already heard.  I have owned a couple of regular SM58's for over 20 years and they are still working great and have out lasted many Audio Technica's and EV's.  So when I was looking for a new vocal mic I thought I would give the Beta a try and I have not been dissappointed in the least.  Top notch vocal mic.  Very rugged and very powerfull.

Don't just buy Shure because it's a SHURE microphone. Yes, they are the most popular brand, but that is mostly due to their marketing scheme, there are tons of better mics out there for half the price.

Overall:

If you have a cheap Shure mic and switch to the Beta58A then you will  most likely love it. I, for one did not have any other microphone before  the Beta58A but based on reviews I bought it. Ever since day one I have  not been keen on this microphone. I am in a rock band and it picks up  tons of feedback from the guitars and drums. Compared to my Sennheiser  e835, it has a brighter tone which makes vocals sound a bit papery while  my Sennheiser gives a nice warm and full tone to the voice. I would  recommend this mic for maybe a classical type of singer, but for music  with loud instruments this just doesn't hold up. As far as durability  goes, I have no idea, I keep my mics in great condition and always put  them in their case when I am done.

Got the pleasure of receiving this mic right before I went to practice today. This is the only mic I have owned but for a while I was using a cheaper shure mic to practice (which was not a very good mic). Today during the practice I immediately noticed the difference between the two Shure mics. The sound from this mic is so much clearer and it cuts through the mix SUPERBLY! My band mates had no problems hearing me today. If you are looking for added warmth to your voice, this mic is not for you, the sound that is produced is a nice natural crystal clear sound. Thanks to this mic I will not be needing a condenser!

I am a vocalist in the So Cal area,I do alot a gigging and touring,I really depend on my mic to back me up and never let me down.never to my imagination especially being raised in my teenage years and after that the beta 58 green would let me down several times,i will never buy schure again. After trying the EV nd767 mic , thats all i ever need. It is for the mature vocalist. Please compare to anything at the music store before you buy. I dare you. thats the real test.
