These mics are definitely the quality you'd expect from Shure. They're all rugged and can withstand a lot of abuse. That being said, here's what I think about these mics:PG56: Awesome. Off-axis rejection could be better, but as far as tone quality, these are very pure. They don't scoop the sound like the audix and sennheisers, they sound very natural. Slightly bulky, kinda hard to mount on smaller toms.PG81: Pretty good, especially for this price range. A little lacking in detail, but very smooth, and do not sound harsh like the majority of cheaper condensers.PG52: By far my favorite mic in the kit. I like it better than the Beta 52 for two reasons: 1, it's nowhere near as bottom-heavy, thus gives a punchier rather than boomier sound and 2: it doesn't have as much of a boost in the upper mids, thus a warmer, less clickier sound. Click, however, can be added with EQ.Bottom line: BUY THESE. You can not get better unless you get the really high end stuff (costing thousands for a set this size)

The Shure PG series of microphones is for those who need a mic just to get sound in. Don't get me wrong, I love Shure mics, they are virtually indestructable and have great sound, but with mics you usually get what you pay for.These mics lack depth, fullness, and just plain volume. The also pick up alot of stage noise and bleed if you do not have a good noise gate setup. The only reason I would buy this set is as my very first mic set on a limited budget to satisfy amatuer recording needs. Their only saving grace is that they will not break! I know because I have thrown them across the stage in fury because of their sound!Do yourself a favor if your serious about recording or live sound- get Shure's mic kit with the 3 SM57s and a Beta 52. It is the same price as the PG-6 package, but the sound is 10 times better! If you have the money, some good Sennheiser Mics or Audix Mics are the best for sound, especially if your recording, but these can top $600 for a set.

      Fantastic start for mic'ing drums

      Comments about Shure PG 6-Piece Drum Microphone Package:

      I have two sets of these because I have a larger drum set.(5 toms, kick, snare) Sound quality for the price is fantastic. The 56's could mic any intrument. Guitar cabs, woodwinds, brass. The 52 sounds good on the kick. Better than the Beta 52 IMO for the same reasons listed in a previous review. And it sounds amazing on my 18" tom. The 81's sound great as well. Fantastic overheads, good for recording vocals, and good for micing choirs. The mounts work great, I've used them for several years without issue. My only complaint is the design of the 56 and 52. With the input on the back of the mic it makes the cable stick out(in the way). But as far as sound these can't be beat for the money.

      Best value, period!

      Comments about Shure PG 6-Piece Drum Microphone Package:

      At this price point I don't believe you can get a better set of mics, complete with a lockable case, cables, and mounts. All the mics are very solid Shure quality and well suited dynamically for live and home recording. However, I agree with some other reviewers that the discriminating ear may want an additional SM57 for the snare drum.

      yes yes and yes get them

      Comments about Shure PG 6-Piece Drum Microphone Package:

      Ok so i would first like to address the microphone. I use these microphnes at my church with a allen and heath board. So when i first was able to use these i didn't think anything woud really come out of them,man was i wrong about these mics. With the snare and the base drum mic hooked up to a compressor and a little eq these mics sound great. The comment about them lacking depth and overall volume is not true. the best mics in the world can sound like crap if you don't have one (a GOOD Board), tue ( someone that knows what their doing). Yes i would recomend these kit to anyone with a sweepable eq. Now to the overheads. WHat can i say other than amzing. These badboys cut through so much crap and pick up the cymbols so well. YOU could if needed Use these and just a kick mic and get the entire set. NOw the mic clips yes do LOOK a Little cheap but if you take care of your equipment then you don't have to worry. They are easy to take on and off and you get no rim noises. Overall a great kit for the price. They are small and very low profile mics.

      using with other mics

      By rev. 766

      Comments about Shure PG 6-Piece Drum Microphone Package:

      Once upon a time, when I was on more of a budget, I had picked up a set of drum mics that cost around $150. I have regretted this ever since. Recently, I got back into school and had student loans, but still not unlimited amounts of money. Iong story short, I love this PG 6 piece mic set. I don't have much experience with mega expensive mics, and I'm sure there are better mics, but the sound these give you is amazing. A person who can't afford $10,000 of mics should be grateful this exists. Personally, I have a 6 piece drum set, and use an sm57 on the snare, a beta52 for the bass, and I use the pg52 that came with this set for the floor tom, the pg56's on the rest of the toms, and obviously the pg 81's for overheads. While my set up has a few more mics, I have used a pg52 on bass drum before, and it sounds great (for bass guitar, too). I usually prefer the sm57 for snare, but the pg56 sound is not bad. It is nice to have different options for recording, especially if you like to experiment with the sound as I do. Signal to noise ratio is great, even when throwing some compression on the input. Of course, as any drummer who usually produces and engineers for the bands I'm in would, I would eventually like to have many ridiculously expensive mics in my collection. I can honestly say that when that time comes, these mics are good enough to stick around, as options at least. Do yourself a favor if you're broke, but still NEED good sound like I do, shell out a little extra $$ for these the next time you are thinking of getting mics. It will save you a lot of anger and stress in the long run.
