Comments about Shure SRH840 Studio Headphones:

Added these cans as an upgrade from similar headphones from another maker. The street price for these is about double my previous set but the sound is several times better. Its a treat to get new, higher quality monitors or headphones because I always hear things I missed before. These do not disappoint. Excellent clarity. Highs are present without being strident. Lows are well controlled and the mids are spot on. I've been using Shure products for more than 40 years and they always make high quality, "bullet proof" gear. I expect these headphones to be no different.

Comments about Shure SRH840 Studio Headphones:

Everything I said earlier is true.

Fast forward 18 months later... I had a client that came in for a voice-over session. I couldn't see him at the mic and he told me at one point "man, I think these headphones are broken." So I walked into the soundbooth and sure enough- one side is broken totally off- at the adjustable part of the headband. They were totally useless. I thought this guy had manhandled them but couldn't know for sure. I came close to throwing them away but decided- on a whim- to send them to Shure. They REPLACED THEM WITH A BRAND NEW SET! So I give two thumbs up and 5 stars for customer service! I will buy a couple more of these 840's because I like them that much! - and so do my clients!

[*]Plastic clip on the left side keeps falling down and the head band came apart. The sound isn't bad but I would not want to use in a professional environment.

Comments about Shure SRH840 Studio Headphones:

I'm not giving a "10" because there are headphones that cost a lot more. But for the buck these are worth every dollar.
Didn't give it a "10" because there are headphones that cost quite a bit... so I'd have to guess those would be 'better'. But after using these for a couple of months I'm thoroughly satisfied with how they perform. I'm a full-time producer. The Song 7506's have been my 'goto' tracking headphones for most artsts because they dig how 'bright but not harsh' they are. These are certainly not as bright but more balanced across the spectrum. I've worn these early in the morning for a couple of hours to get into the subtleties of a mix. Later in the day listening through monitors I find I was doing things right! They're comfortable and non-fatiguing. I'm using these for all the tracking with my artists.
Great build quality. An extra pair of ear pads is cool although I hope (like the 7506's) I wont need to replace them but every 8 years or so... (I gotta give props to the Sonys... I've used and abused these things and after replacing the earpads they still SOUND brand new and now look brand new!...)
A very good value. As you can read I'm a fan of the Sony cans too but these are a step above for about twice the price. ...and worth it.

Best Cans in the Price Range!

            By Eric-R__uW

            from Topeka, KS

Comments about Shure SRH840 Studio Headphones:

As far as construction, they have an indestructible headband and all the important parts are replaceable, making them long lasting. They're a bit on the heavy side, but not so heavy that they get uncomfortable. I've worn them for several hours with no discomfort or fatigue. The padded headband and super-soft ear pads help with that a lot.The sound quality of these cans are great! The lows are a bit less powerful than other price-comparable headphones, but not so low as to be lacking. The frequencies are very balanced. In the mids, the SRH840s really shine. They are much more responsive than other phones and it really shows in critical listening. They may not be best for monitoring, but they'll make your music sound GREAT. After 10000 Hz, there's a bit of a drop to quieter than most, but once again still enough response to sound wonderful. You're not missing out on any subtleties in the music, you will hear everything!
