I got this mic on a whim to use with a new Bose L1 Model II PA system. Aesthetically, this may be the sexiest microphone ever. Most people are very impressed with the style of this mic.

In use, proper vocal and mic technique is a must. This microphone is 'plosive', but also allows you to create wonderful phrasing with the proper head location and movement. It is super clear, with a tinge of warmth. If you eat this mic, you wan't to be controlled, it sounds clear, seductive, and quite professional.

I love the super cardiod pattern. It's very interesting how different it feels from the standard cardiod ala SM 58s. Comparatively, this mic is far clearer then an SM 58. If you are not a singer who sings "pretty", or uses a controlled vocal technique, this mic may not be the right fit (the trusty SM 58 will likely be a good place to start).

I would recommend this mic for anyone not wanting a condenser vocal mic on stage who utilizes an array of vocal techniques. I would not suggest it for rough singers, as it may accentuate undesirable sound in the mix.

Had high hopes for this mic. Our lead singer is a female with a powerful voice that must be out front. Been using an EV RE410 and like it a lot, but wanted more warmth. The Super 55 has a great warm sound, but the "plosives" from it nearly knocked us out of the room. "P's" and "B's" were overpowering, even singing diagonally across the mic rather than straight into it. No amount of eq could bring it under control.

Comments about Shure Super 55 Dynamic Microphone:

Loved the "retro" look of the 55.. But after "working" with it for a while, I went back to my trusty SM57.
I have a very direct, powerful "in your face" vocal delivery & found the 55 didn't quite fit the bill for my vocal style. Used the 55 in photo shoots, videos & for live performances & it "looks" great..
Just a little hard to find a consistent sweet spot while rocking out singing & playing guitar together.
There is no mistake where the sweet spot is on the SM57.
Jazzy crooner great / Fire breathing rocker not so much :)

Comments about Shure Super 55 Dynamic Microphone:

I don't have to tell you that this thing looks awesome. People come from the audience all the time to tell me how cool it looks. It sounds just as good or better than any microphone I have used live and in the studio it sounds great for vocals and guitar cabinets. I admit I usually use a more expensive condenser for recording vocals but this microphone holds its own against the best of them.

Comments about Shure Super 55 Dynamic Microphone:

I wanted one of these for a long time, and I finally thought "what am I waiting for?" I'm a jazz singer and this is great for my era of music. It isn't right for all gigs - sometimes a hand-held is called for - but when I'm standing there looking retro and singing songs from the 40s, it's perfect. It does take some getting used to; although it's big, there is a small spot in the center that you have to sing into, or else it won't catch the fullness of your voice. I love that it looks retro but internally is updated - quality is the same as an SM58.

Comments about Shure Super 55 Dynamic Microphone:

This mic is the best mic I've ever owned. I was always hear complaints about volume and tone with other mic's (including Shure's) and that all changed with the Super55.

The mic acents the lows and controls the highs, it's warm sound works from sining softly to METAL SCREAMS! I refuse to do a gig with out it. The sound quality is out of this world, it has 100% upped my game.

Lastly, the look is one that is remembered, especially in the classic rock\cover world. The mic gives you style and performance. I will use nothing else ever again.

I am a Karaoke Jock. I have only used it once so far and everyone liked the way it made them sound. My only complaint so far is the connection part. It doesn't lock in as it should. I tried several cords and all had the same problem. I had to tape it in place against the mike stand, but it worked well after that. Hope Shure comes up with a fix as needed.

Comments about Shure Super 55 Dynamic Microphone:

I want to address two points made by several other reviewers.

1- The Super 55 Deluxe sounds just like the Shure SM-58. This is definitely NOT true. I bought the mic on the chance that it could be the case because I love my 58 and have used it exclusively for a long, long time. The 55 has a really good, full-spectrum sound, and if you have a nice EQ unit and know how to use it you could probably get it to sound similar to the SM-58, but to be clear, this is an entirely different instrument from the 58. Don't get me wrong—it's a very well built unit with a fine sound, just not like the SM-58.

2- The Super 55 Deluxe is way too sensitive to "plosives". This point is kind of true...sort of. It took me about an hour of practice to revise my diction and mic technique, but I was able to eliminate the problem. Side-by-side comparison with the SM-58 shows this mic significantly louder on the *pop* of hard consonant sounds. You'll have to learn to soften your P's.

Summary: This mic is GORGEOUS!!! I croon the jazz standards and love having a mic I can hold like a woman I'm kissing. The sound is a very good, clean, full-range, accurate reproduction of whatever you put into it. If you can learn to manage your "plosives" with a mic that doesn't manage them for you, I'm sure you will love this beautiful instrument!

I penalized one star for the *pop*.
