OVERVIEW

Super-compact, desktop-sized passive volume attenuator

The super-compact SM Pro Audio Nano Patch + desktop-sized passive volume attenuator, enters the market as one of the smallest around. Building on the success of the original M-Patch and M-Patch 2 passive attenuators, Nano Patch + is perfect for working with stereo signals from soundcards, CD players, pre-amps, and mixers. Nano Patch + facilitates precise level adjustments to analog audio source material.

Pro Audio features on the Nano Patch + include balanced combo XLR/TRS input jacks and TRS outputs, mute switch, and a good sized rotary volume encoder. Nano Patch + is simply one of the most affordable improvements you can make to your studio.

The Nano Patch + really comes into its own when connected between your computer audio interface/soundcard master outputs and a pair of active (powered) monitor speakers. One of the benefits of passive volume attenuation is that you no longer have to control volumes with your software's master volume fader. Reducing levels from your software only reduces the audio bit depth. It is better to keep your software masters at unity and attenuate the audio to your active monitors with a passive controller like the Nano Patch +. This way you can maintain maximum audio resolution and reduce the amplitude of your monitoring volume with the confidence that the sonic integrity of your audio is not compromised.
No active circuitry, buffers, transistors, batteries, or power supply of any kind can interfere with the main passive output of the Nano Patch +. It simply delivers attenuated signal. Pure. Simple. Transparent.

The SM Pro Audio attenuator's rotary control (the same pot as used in our M-Patch 2) allows precise level adjustments within 1dB from 0 to -40dB. In addition, the Nano Patch + features completely balanced operation with its combo XLR/TRS input jacks, and TRS outputs.

A simple problem solver, use the Nano Patch + anywhere you need to trim gain; ie, reduce the volume of analog audio signals. For example, you could use a Nano Patch + to trim the output of a microphone preamp. With its high-quality potentiometer, the SM Pro Nano Patch + attenuator passes signal more accurately, and sounds better than most built-in volume controls. The possibilities are endless.

FEATURES
  • Super compact 2-channel analog passive volume control
  • Mute button
  • Completely transparent operation
  • No power required
  • 2 x combo inputs, 2 x TRS outputs
  • Metal housing
  • Rotary volume attenuation control

The Nano Patch+ is a high quality stereo audio level control with many uses. I use it as a volume control for an external audio source fed to my computer audio system. It allows me to mix external stereo audio with the computer audio for listening to background music. The mute button kills the audio for phone calls and conversations without changing the volume setting. The mini jacks on the + model match the jacks on most computers, making connections easy without requiring adapters. The control knob has a smooth solid feel which I really like. I was going to build my own level control but couldn't buy the parts for less than the Nano Patch+ cost!

I got rid of my mixer in favor of mixing in my computer. I thought that would give me a cleaner signal and take up less space in my home studio.

The problem is the +4 monitor feed which comes out of the interface (MOTU Ultralite MK3). Even with the pad switches engaged my powered monitors have way too much signal to handle.

I bought the SM Nano Patch hoping it would attenuate the +4 monitor send and enable me to have the output signal at unity gain. No such luck.

The Nano Patch is easy to use, and is practically transparent, but it doesn't cut the signal enough to my monitors. I still have to reduce the main send signal by half (inside of the computer) if I want to use my studio monitors.

The Nano Patch is a great product, but it only allows you to run at a slightly higher signal in the digital realm before coming from a +4 output to powered monitors. Apparently this isn't optimal because it effects the bit rate. I'm disappointed, but maybe I was asking too much.

Comments about SM Pro Audio Nano Patch + Passive Volume Attenuator:

Does the job but suffers from poor stereo imaging at low settings, i.e. the various poles of the volume pot are not well matched. At the very least it's a good hardware platform to hack as the case and jacks are good quality. Mute switch it very useful.

Comments about SM Pro Audio Nano Patch + Passive Volume Attenuator:

Well designed for the purpose I stated above.
Was looking for a reeference monitor volume control. Considered several options, but am really glad I settled on the NanoPatch.
I replaced a small Yamaha mixer that I had given the volume function and the NanoPatch is much simpler and more transparent.
I thought I might have overpaid for a volume control, but the mute button and the quality housing made this a great deal.

    Great Product

Comments about SM Pro Audio Nano Patch + Passive Volume Attenuator:

I've been using this for a few months now. Adjusts the level perfectly, and looks slick on the desktop work space. With it, you can leave your monitors or speakers set at decent level, then adjust it with this product. The only thing I wish it had is a headphone output that cut the signal to the main output. But I made due with a Y splitter and a 1/8" pigtail.

NANO PATCH+ Works Great & So Simple....

    By Samuel Ragland

Comments about SM Pro Audio Nano Patch + Passive Volume Attenuator:

The Nano Patch+ is an impressive piece of gear, especially for the price.. I use it between a Yahama Audiogram6 USB Audio Interface and M-Audio BX5a studiophile monitors. I can now adjust the monitor output without diminishing the signal to my DAW when recording. This has made live recording a much more "family-tolerable while retaining full audio quality" experience in my home studio. Thanks for supplying something that works as advertised at an unbelievable price.

I got the first one last year. I use it between the headphone out of my laptop into my pa mixer as a volume control. But I also use it the same way for a CD/tape deck a drum machine, just about anything with headphone out. It's A Knob ! I need more !

Comments about SM Pro Audio Nano Patch + Passive Volume Attenuator:

Great piece of equipment. Initially bought it to run my airport express and a turntable through my active-powered speakers. However, with 2 inputs on the back, once you plug in the 3.5mm stereo jack, it stops input from the XLR jacks. I'm going to return it and get the next step (m-patch version 2) so I can have the selection buttons on the front to choose my input source.

If you're running one input source, buy this product! It feels solid, and the huge volume know feels sturdy and not too loose.

I'm using older school technology, and needed a way to control the volume of my monitors, when doing the final mixdown with my equipment. I was stuck using headphones to mix with, and I was not happy with the results. This little box has been a GREAT addition to my home studio!!! I Love it!! It sounds GREAT, and I have not had any problems what so ever with it!!! I would recomend it for any situation where you need to control volume of a device.

          Don't worry, it's Nano Patch+

          By Kyle Park

          from VA

Comments about SM Pro Audio Nano Patch + Passive Volume Attenuator:

As I mentioned above, you might go through some minor problems,
but other than that, it's GREAT.
Bang for a buck fo' sho.
I was worried abou the fact that in picutre, they show Nano Patch regular
(without mini jack input/output in the backside).
So I called about... 13 times to make sure that what I'm getting is Nano Patch+, not the regular one.

Anyways, a week later, I received my product and it was a Nano Patch+ (w/ mini jack input/output).
So if you were worrying about similar factor as me, don't worry. It's Nano Patch +.
Although it's simple to use, I faced several problems while I was using this gadget.
I'm using it with a pair of KRK RP6.
Since Nano Patch+ only has ONE volume nob, it can't control the volume of two speakers separately.
This means (I believe it commonly happens to every monitor speaker) if one speaker is louder than the other side, you have to either mass around with either computer software volume or alter the speaker loudness itself to balance out the even volumes through both monitors.
Trust me, this balancing process is QUITE painful.

If you are willing to take some risk like this isn't your concern, go for it
because other than that, it's a simple and nice gadget.
          Seriously, it's a great price.
You can't find any stereo volume controller in this price.
I bought this because it was one of the cheapest products available in the market.

Very good and essential piece of equipment. Zero noise and very nice design/materials. Just to clarify, it actually includes 1/8" in and out as well, beside the XLR and 1/4 in/out. I only wished there was a headphone input.
