Adaptable and powerful, this tool is for VST instrument and plug-in users on the move.
The SM Pro Audio V-Machine is a compact VST and VSTi player built for performance keyboard players and DJ's. The hardware module is one little beast that can't be underestimated once loaded up with your favorite VST instrument and effect plug-ins. Take your plug-ins on the road or into the studio and access them live without a computer. Multiple plug-ins can be pre-loaded into bank/preset memories for immediate access. Combine VST and VSTi plug-ins into chains, splits, and layers to create extremely rich and unique sounds. The VST player's full external MIDI controller support allows users access to plug-in parameter controls such as virtual dials, switches, and faders.
All SM Pro Audio V-Machines ship with a control configuration software compatible with Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux (future support).
Users can load up their favorite VST/VSTi plug-ins on their computer for auditioning, sound-set creation, and bank/preset memory assignment prior to transferring to one of the V-products for standalone use. Simple intuitive software makes sound and effect creation a breeze. Transferring your plug-ins to the V-Box, couldn't be easier: A speedy USB transfer to the hardware units (via USB cable, USB stick, or USB hard drive) takes care of all required user data, memories, and, of course, plug-in transfer. Once in the main unit, you have freed your plug-ins from the computer and have instant immediate access to your instruments, samples, and effect sound creations on a dedicated hardware unit.
The SM Pro Audio V-Machine has banks, presets, and channels. In each bank you can run unlimited presets and within one preset you can have up to four channels and up to two FX channels. Each channel can load up to 3 plug-ins and each FX channel also has 3 plug-in slots. Even the master channel can hold up to 3 plug-ins. This means you can run up to 21 plug-ins in each preset.
As of Dec 1, 2008, SM Pro Audio has created the following PC only update:
•The PC executable itself contains the matching V-Machine firmware
•If the application detects a connected V-Machine in update mode then it will prompt to update the machine
•Sync from PC to V-Machine is implemented

This thing is very cool. Load in your VSTi/VST go. 2 limitations: some VST that use challenge/response or activation center copy protection may or may not work. Every one that I have tried that uses a simple serial number type activation worked fine. Other limitation: plugins that are extremely heavy on CPU usage may be limited by the processing power of this box. I bought it to use as a live sound module and it works great. Currently running the stock stuff ( Sampletank & others ) along with Minimogue VA and the excellent GSI VB3 organ synth which to be honest, blows away the hardware hammond synths. This device is rock-solid and has never locked up or glitched, it also runs very cool to the touch. Give yourself some time to learn the software used to install and setup the box and you will be amazed with the stuff you can pull off with this thing on stage. Each Preset has 4 Patches which can contain a VSTi and 2 VST or 3 VST effects. Those 4 have 2 separate effect busses that can run other stuff and then go to a master bus. One other positive: SM Pro Audio support is very responsive and helped me get this thing set up the way I wanted it when I first got it running.
