I purchased these noise reducing [NR] head phones because I sometimes need to mix live audio for TV productions. When I do, I?m usually in a noisy auditorium filled with lots of people with my audio being mostly of the "ambient" variety. (6 mics picking up audio ?in an area? [ie: horns,] but no instruments mic?d directly.) I bought these because I figured they'd reduce the overall din of the crowd and other ambient noise. However, when working in a loud environment, one generally needs to turn up the volume to be able to hear what you're doing. When driven even past the midway point on the volume knob, these headphones distort. BADLY! Even on an iPod, you can?t go past 66% vol w/o distortion! On the plus side, the NR DOES cancel out some of the noise, but not enough to be able to work in a fairly loud environment, like a concert hall. Worse: the NR CAUSES a bunch of distortion! Finally, they have a thinner gage wire, which doesn?t stand up well to the rigors of road travel or production.
These headphones are amazing. I originally bought them for drumming, but i now use them in the car and mowing lawns. I wear them for 4+ hours all the time and they are very comfortable and lightweight. The sound quality is incredible. You don't realize how much noise they cancel out until you take them off. These are great headphones
