The first pair I purchased ROCKED! I mean these guys were better than anything Ive heard before. But then, while on my family vacation something happened. The speaker in the right ear cup fell out of place and began rattling when I moved my head. The sound was not affected, but I wanted to use these for drumming, and the rattling in my ear would have hurt my drumming. I sent them back for a return, and 3 weeks later finally got a new pair. The second pair worked fine, but within one day, the speaker in the LEFT ear cup came loose. Now, it came no where as loose as the first time, but the fact of the matter is that it is still loose. It does not rattle so I am keepiong it, but I am dissapointed in either; Sony's manufactering, or the shipping methods used to get it to my house.Other than that, the sound quality is AWESOME. The sound isolation is AWESOME. The comfort is AWESOME and its overall a great set. I just wish the speaker didnt come out of place, it is midly annoying that they arent "perfect".The bass is great, and sometimes is a little overpowering to the higher frequencies, but overall everything is perfect to me. Although, i have only used it with uncompressed music so far, I have not tried this with sutio monitering. And Note: This makes mp3's sound like crap. I suggest AT LEAST 224kbps mp3 but prefer lossless audio.

Purchased these phones about 5 years ago. I will not recommend these for studio monitoring but they would be great for your iPod or mp3 player as they tend to color the sound and make it sound nice at low volume. I recently purchased a set of Sennheiser HD280 Pros and found that the recorded guitar sounds more like what goes down on tape than the Sony?s. The ear pads on the V600's have now deteriorated to the point where they are junk. What happened to the days when I would buy a set of Koss's at half that price and they would last with a lifetime warranty which they happily honored? It's common knowledge that one shouldn't monitor with phones exclusively but in the real world we do both ;).

I'm shocked they still make these headphones. I bought mine in 1995 for Media Arts in College and they still work!!! Besides the faux leather falling apart they still work... I was looking for something new when I came across this page. May just buy another.
I use them with Reason 3.0 and they work great! I got "better" headphones for my b-day, but these just sound better. I found these headphones in my garage(garage of death) and they still work. They got a great cord the stretches. The only problem is how big they are, but that wont effect me! I like how they feel on my head.
You are getting great sound reproduction out of these headphones. Great separation, crystal clear highs and shaking lows. I was totally blown away by the quality of these. Sound better than some $200+ units. I am using them in a higher end recording studio in my home and wouldn't recommend anything else, especially at this price or higher.
After coming from pairs of $20 headphones, anything is amazing, but these have a truly great sound. It's very full and the highs and mids are especially clear. It could use a little better sub, but it still sounds great.
Good headphones. Great bass, highs and mids.
I bought these expecting to get what I payed for but I got much more then what I payed for. I agree with the other review that these are not good for mixing because they boost the bass and treble, however they are amazing for just listening to music
I've used these for a couple years now, and I am completely happy with them. They aren't the most accurate headphones ever, as far as flat sound reproduction, but that's what monitors are for. I use them both for personal music listening and for recording, and the isolation is good enough to use them for recording drums, as long as you don't mind turning them up pretty loud. My only complaint is the vinyl covering the pads on the earcups rotates to weird positions occasionaly, and is starting to tear apart, but only after two years of use.
Nice set, well balanced. Wish the cable could be taken out like the other modular sets out there...
These are some of the worse sounding headphones in the 100 dollar range. Better sounding phones include the Grado sr-60, Sennheiser hd-280 and Hd-555, Audio technica a500s, and many more. But don't take my word for it, look around.
The earpad and headpad material, while very soft and comfortable, is easy to tear. On the positive side, the sound while wearing these cans is incredible. Just be careful to take special care of the earpads and the headband padding, so that there are no rips, because replacement earpads are hard to come by.
