I am a dyed-in-the-wool Bose L1 user, and not at all a big fan of using the Bose gear with third party mixers. They always seem to induce mud, noise, and feedback problems compared to Bose's own T1 Tonematch digital mixer. The T1's mic & instrument presets are the bomb.

However... a friend brought his new Soundcraft 124FX to a gig over the weekend and used it with his Bose L1 Compact and ran his guitar and mic as well as another player's guitar and mic into this little wonder. Very impressive!

The vocals were clean and crisp as were the guitars. EQ on the vocals consisted of just a bit of cut on the lows and a smidge boost on the highs. Very little of either...just a touch. The reverb, when adjusted properly to a level of "barely noticeable" were very sweet and transparent, not at all cavern-y, annoying, or muddy-ing.

I have owned a number of mini-mixers in the past, and this one, especially for the money is unbeatable. I have not bought one, as I already own three Bose T1s, but if I wanted to add another, this would be my choice.
Small footprint, nice layout, Clean three-band EQ, onboard FX.
Solid case, well built
Come on....a steal!

Am loving it, sound, looks, and quality.
I mainly bought it for Phantom power, but it has so much more. I found a go to verb #15 Hall, really nice, possibly a tad dark, but I prefer this over to bright. I was pleasantly surprised at how nice and quiet this mixer is, and at the same time lots of output to my recording device. Possibly more inputs than I need, but better that than not enough. I like the fact that it's got an on/off switch, unlike it's Behringer look a like. The manual had a nice English feel to it, right down to the spellings, and was quit comprehensive. I love the Soundcraft mistique, lends nicely to my old world consciousness.
I had to send the first one back, due to FX knob not working. The next one works perfectly, hopefully for ever. The build seems to be very good. The transformer seems to run a little warmer than most, but never gets hot. All the knobs have a nice smooth feel, especially the slider, nice. It's got the really cool Soundcraft side panels, add to the quality appeal.
I got it on sale, seems to be a steal.

Comments about Soundcraft Notepad 124FX Mixer with Effects:

This great little Soundcraft 4 channel mixer is perfect, at least for what I'm using it for. I am now completely sick of ADD/DDD. Pro Tools & every other DAW system can kiss my ass. I'm a musician & don't feel like having to get a BS to run this shit. I am an old school dude & have Film & Audio degrees, along with being a musician for 30 + years. I'm now running AAD, I only like the capture digitally at the final mix. I still like to print the tracks on tape & then run the tape back through the Soundcraft & mix it down to an Edirol 96/24 pro recorder. Take the stereo mixdown file, put it into the computer (iTunes), or you can take it to Soundtrack Pro just for normalization, if needed. The nice thing about this board & my Tascam 424, is I get no noise floor going in or out. The levels & pre-amps are hot enough, that you do not need any trim/gain on the 424 at all. The board will be your control surface in & out. My only con, was you can not send separate FX to each channel. But, for the price, you really can't ask for any more. If you use it for live, you need an amp. -Thanks for your time

Hopped up Behringer 1202

By Larry Storch

from Mobile Alabama

Comments about Soundcraft Notepad 124FX Mixer with Effects:

It has to be made at the Behringer factory. The layout is identical. This mixer does sound better that the behringer and I am pleased with it. Their service is also very good. The first on I got crapped out and they replaced it. So far so good for the replacement. You will notice that the knobs need to be turned up louder to get the same amount of output compared to other mixers. The service people said that is normal. Ok. As I said it is a Behringer mixer with some better chips from Soundcraft. I am not a gear fanatic I just like to turn it on and use it. It is simple and sort of reliable. I keep the Behringer handy as a backup. The Behringer is a surprisingly good mixer for the money. I bought the Soundcraft because of the name and history. At one time Soundcraft made very high end stuff but like everything else they sold out and the accountants have taken over. I shouldn't complain, a real analog mixer made in America and built to last forever would probably cost $10,000.

Happy With Notepad 124FX

By Murray Hensch

from Hudson, NH

Comments about Soundcraft Notepad 124FX Mixer with Effects:

I just received my Soundcraft Notepad 124FX Mixer with Effects and am very happy with it. I tried it with a flute microphone, an acoustic/electric guitar, and a Fender Telecaster. None of these instruments needed a DI box, so I am very happy about that (the cords were approx 10 feet). The mixer works great. It was on sale for $99.99. I look forward to trying it out for recording (I have only used it to an amplifier so far).

Comments about Soundcraft Notepad 124FX Mixer with Effects:

so obviously a soundboard is not going to feel good after being dropped once, but my board has been dropped 2x by someone other than myself. Not good. Despite it being abused, it still does well. one of the main outputs is not usable anymore, but what can you expect after a fall onto hardwood? We used it for a monitor mixer. Works very well for that application. Good little board.

    OMG! Analog Heaven!

Comments about Soundcraft Notepad 124FX Mixer with Effects:

Just received the SOund Craft Notepad 124FX Mixer yesterday. Hooked it up side by side with my Behringer 1202FX as I wrote earlier to do a "A - B". Wow! I compared them using same mic (Blue 200) and same speaker - powered Behringer 208. Used same EQ or very similar settings. SoundCraft was HANDS-DOWN clearer & cleaner. Even my wife and my 9 year old daughter could hear the better difference in my singing voice (when I compared the two) thru the SoundCraft. Now, the Behringer will be my back-up - SOundCraft is my starter! Effects, although digital, were better quality also. Would replace it even at the full price. Not going back! I love alota Behringer stuff, but they take a back seat to this mixer IMHO.
This Sound Craft Notepad 124FX Mixer has the same exact features and lay-out of my Behringer 1202FX mixer. Same exact footprint/size except the SoundCraft is thicker/taller by about 3/8 inch.
Wow. I wasn't expecting much - that's why I'm so surprised. I was just buying a back-up for my Behringer 1202FX mixer which I've used for 3+ years. THe Specifications say "Analog" mixer. And it must be. Very, very clean & clear channels.
Got this on MF's Stupid deal for a great price. 10+

    Steal Soundcraft Sound !

    By David Spero

Comments about Soundcraft Notepad 124FX Mixer with Effects:

Fact - This mixer is the best deal out there. this price for a quality mixer with good effects? Unheard of! It sounds fab, the pres, the line ins, eq... Good, seriously - very good.
This mixer easily competes with much more expensive gear. I feel it easily surpasses other competitors in it's class and beyond.
I owned the Soundcraft LX7 - the 124's mic pres sound the same, clean, clear, and all around good.
I highly recommend this little powerhouse mixer.
Take the time to look over the specs. This little mixer is LOADED with features.
Overall the build quality is good. Treat all pots nicely (plastic shafts). If you take care when using 'em, they'll last.

The bottom chasis feet are molded together with the plastic side caps. The feet are rough and if you're not careful, they might scratch the surface of a table, etc. I'm going to replace 'em with rubber feet (fron the local hardware).
Simply the best deal!!! Look at all the features & effects!

Comments about Soundcraft Notepad 124FX Mixer with Effects:

I've had it about a week, and used it in my studio to record some guitar parts, as well as on a performance (soundscape/ambient noise oriented). It works as it should...but I really mourn the loss of the Aux Return. Inputting the returns from the FX Send to one of the stereo tracks results in loss of control over individual sources having that effect applied, and the effect really does not come through very well even so. I have gone back to using a separate mixer that DOES have an Aux Return and then I bus that signal over to a separate input on the Soundcraft.

      Defective FX, Sent back

      By Carlos Colon

      from Undisclosed

Comments about Soundcraft Notepad 124FX Mixer with Effects:

Couldn't get the FX to work, only added some cracked noise when engaged. The rotary FX selector felt loose as if the connection was loose from the main board. Sound was OK, but decided to save more for a higher quality mixer.

Comments about Soundcraft Notepad 124FX Mixer with Effects:

I use this to mix mics and whatever else (it has 4 stereo channels too that can be used in mono as well!) into my Bose L1. Unlike another inferior brand I tried with less features, this unit has zero noise and sounds GREAT! I actually ran just this without monitors into my Bose at a gig where we had to fit into a very small space. It worked great. IF YOU WANT A GOOD MINI MIXER FOR YOUR BOSE POLE SYSTEM- THIS IS IT!!!
For its size, this thing has just about everything you would need. Anything else, you would be needing a bigger unit anyway. It has so many channels, and all in a package that is not much larger than lesser 2 xlr input units. The power adapter plug could be made sturdier, but its a minor thing.
This is a QUIET unit! I tried a different brand that had less channels and there was poor sound and noise. This one- ZERO noise, and GREAT sound. It seems that sometimes you do get what you pay for.
I got this for half price on the "Stupid Deal of the Day," but even at regular price, it's a good deal. Extremely quiet and good solid sound quality. I haven't even used the effects yet- a small bonus to have effects built into such a small unit.
