After many years of development, Spectrasonics presents their flagship virtual instrument Omnisphere. This revolutionary Power Synth breaks sonic ground by combining a wide variety of hybrid real time synthesis techniques, a vast library of remarkable Psychoacoustic sounds, and many innovative features that have never been seen before in any hardware or software synthesizer. It is the first to be based on Spectrasonics STEAM Engine.
Although extremely powerful, Omnisphere is designed with a unique user interface containing progressive layers of zooming to accommodate the complete range of users - from musicians who just want to be inspired by the sounds and customize them in an easy way, to expert synthesists and the most advanced sound designers. Users can go deeper and deeper into the music software and progress in their synthesis knowledge by simply exploring additional levels of sound manipulation options.
Omnisphere offers a host of hybrid synthesis and control capabilities including Variable Waveshaping DSP synthesis, Granular synthesis, Timbre Shifting, FM, polyphonic Ring Modulation, high-resolution streaming Sample Playback, Harmonia Dual Multimode Filter structure, Chaos Envelopes‚ an advanced Unison mode, and the innovative Flex-Mod modulation routing system - to name a few.
Spectrasonics has pioneered several types of sampling for the core library of this virtual instrument, including unique Psychoacoustic sounds and sound sources created with a Composite Morphing Technique (CMT) - which morphs the harmonic characteristics of one instrument to another. As a bonus, a section of the core library is also devoted to representing the best of Spectrasonics award-winning sample libraries. When all of these organic core library soundsources are combined with the synthesis power of the STEAM engine, the sounds become alive in a truly dynamic and expressive way.
Among the many unique features this multi-timbral synth offers are its flexible arpeggiators with the innovative Groove Lock integration with Stylus RMX - allowing the arpeggiator pattern to instantly groove with the feel of the RMX drum loop; Live Mode for transitionless patch switching and layering, Stack Mode for powerful performance mapping; and integrated modulatable FX Racks.
Omnisphere is also the successor to Spectrasonics popular Atmosphere instrument, and contains enhanced versions of all the classic Atmosphere sounds. However, the core library in Omnisphere is 10-times the size of Atmosphere and features thousands of completely different sounds.
Spectrasonics Omnisphere is cross-platform compatible with Apple Macintosh OS X 10.4 and higher as a native Universal Binary and also with Microsoft Windows XP/Vista.
Audio Units, VST, and RTAS plug-in formats are supported for compatibility with all major host software.

I've been using this product for over a year now, and I absolutely love it for creating video game music. The amount of atmospheric sounds, choirs, and quality of synths at your disposal is truly amazing. Thanks to quality of of this software, I got my first music library published with a game developer recently. Whether you're serious about music or just having fun, having this product is totally worth it.Another thing you'll like about the company spectrasonics is that they actually give quality updates with new instruments about once per 3-6 months. They also have updates to tweak and further enhance the performance of your engine.On a technical note, I've tested this on 32 and 64 windows xp / vista / and windows 7 while using acid pro 7 and cubase 5 with no problems.

SPECTRASONIC'S OMNISPHERE IS MORE OVERRATED AND OVERHYPED THEN KIMBO SLICE!!!! The reason this synth sounds "better" then the rest is because the patches are in 24 bit maybe even in 32 bit floating. Once you dither everything down the only difference between another virtual synth is the gigs and gigs of useless patches you have stored on your computer. The interface is very user friendly but you have to search a long time just to find a patch that can be used for music. This synth might be good for movies, but for music this synth is a waste of money, time, and hard drive space. I know the creator of this synth wanted to create new sounds that nobody had out there, but I really need basic sounds that could be used for a song. Sure it's fun to write alien music once in a while but there isn't enough meat and potatoes patches. I can get the same quality of sounds as this synth by using reason with some patch off the web. If music is your passion save yourself some cash and computer upgrades and get a practical usable virtual synth like Reason or one from Native Instruments. If you make music for movies this synth will do the job, but for the average musician look elsewhere.

I bought this based on the reviews and was not disappointed. I use this in a Windows environment under Sonar. I was initially worried about performance on my system due to the stated system requirements, but have not had any issues so far. The patches are both abundant and of high quality. Add the enormous editing features and even control from an iPad via Omni TR, and this synth is just amazing.

Great synth for different genres of music.Pair Omni with Komplete 8 Ultimate and Trillian and you will never leave the house.
Omnisphere,has over 50 gigs of content,and over 10.000 sounds to keep you busy for awhile.Omni also has lots of ways to change the sounds into something else.
Omni has very nice sounds,but they aren't your everyday meat and potatoes sounds.If your looking for a synth on your PC Omni is it.However,Omni has no drums and very few bass sounds.It's best to buy Trillian if you need bass sounds like I did.

I have been in the market for a good multi for a while, and the omnisphere averaged it out for me. being a studio musician, home set up, just didn't seem feasable or affordable to get some huge workstation synth when I love the simplicity of my desktop setup. As far as virtuals go, the omnisphere is the package.I love the interface and the info for the soundsource patches, complete with photos and detailed descriptions,the info edits you can add and the browser is great for narrowing down what you are looking for.No nitpicks yet as I am still learning some of the functions but also no problems. Not for the top 40 crowd though, this is for the out of this world types. An otherworldly explorer synth.
deep soundsources; huge library to create your own patches and layers, great interface and technical guide, great support from spectrasonics. I am in love with the quality of the samples as I am into experimental soundscapes and inspiring textures. combined with the Ableton Live Suite 8 I am in sound nirvana. Some of the features such as the live mode are very cpu intensive but I am glad they are there to work with in the future , the key is to learn the inside outs of memory management, on which there is a complete tutorial as well as lots of youtube demos. Great vitrual multi timbral instrument
6 dvds no problems with install, had an issue with authorization but that was my fault and easily cleared up with spectrasonics. Quality of the product itself is amazing, I want to use it on everything.

Top of the line samples and synthesis
For the price of a cheap synth you get best of breed vst.. Of course you need a powerful computer... 8 megs of ram, 64bit 7200 rpm harddrive external... but then you done... My Novation impluse works perfect on it..

For those of you looking to explore some new sonic territories, be they ambient or groove oriented, THIS is an incredible piece of software to add to your toolbox.Eric Persing and the good folks @ Spectrasonics have gone above and beyond the boundaries of usual programming and sampling to put together a very unique bit of sonic software.As of this week (Feb 15, 2012) they are up to about 7,000 sounds, covering a wide range of styles and timbres. If you're looking for something exotic and powerful, spend a bit of time checking out the videos and reviews of this amazing piece of gear. Nothing else seems to come close.I've be playing synths since the 70's, and have owned almost every piece of 'old skool' gear you have ever heard of (really!), and this thing is Sofa King Special, that it's totally blowing my mind. WARNING: You need a pretty fast box, lots of RAM, etc. It's a 'heavy' bit of processing. I'm using Logic on a quad core and it's fast and accurate.Mind-blowing sounds and textures, sonic environments unheard before.Not cheap @ almost $500, but worth the investment if you're serious about your composition/recording.Take your imagination for a walk on the wild side, check out Omnisphere!!!Deadly.
