easy to use and set up

By matt-uFJW6

from ohio

I have had this for 4 months, I had an mbox pro tools set up for 3 years. after I tried the mbox in 4 different computers , thousands of crashes and everytime I thought I had figured it out , no, I didnt!!!! so I got rid of the junk and bought this m14 steinberg product.I FOLLOWED THE DIRECTIONS WHE I INSTALLED IT UPDATED THE FIRMWARE! and it has worked fine, wow I can actually record stuff now!If you are a beginner and want to record with some easy to use software, with a pretty great sound this is a great product.

Very Average.

By Anonymous

I bought this recently just to return it. It's built slightly weak and turned me away because of USB. I opted rather for an M-Audio FireWire 410 for the same price and have loved every minute of it. The best feature is a functional copy of Cubase SL! But for an audio input device, I'd opt towards M-Audio or the M-Box.

Confused?

By Man of Vision

from Philadelphia

I purchase this system and was happy for the price and the ease of installing. The midi connection work great and transfer of mp3 or audio wave was fine. But when I started to record audio into my computer from the microphone source or keyboard outputs, I got a crazy popping and crackling noise. I couldn't figure it out along with four other experance Cubase users. So I return it. Talk about taking your creative flow out of just wanting to record music, you'll turn into tech to figure out how to stop the popping!

Not quite right.

By Steve-OeBs5

from Houston, TX

Cubase is one of the best programs around so it stood to reason that this package would be awesome. And it would have been if not for the MI4. My first one didn't even work right so I had to return it. The second seemed better but then I noticed that the driver wasn't allowing me to select the 3/4 inputs, only 1/2. The MI4 doesn't work with most other DAWs and this version of Cubase won't work unless you use the MI4. In fact the program won't load unless the MI4 is plugged in. I hear that the firmware updates can solve most problems but I expected a better product from Steinberg. Read the forums carefully and weigh the risks before buying this. There's nothing worse than getting stuck with something you can't return. If you have to go with Cubase, go with SL or SX, but buy another type of interface. Don't be cheap because you'll get what you pay for.

Active Musician

This product is decent for personal recording. Just make sure that you download any updates from the website. For the money it is a very solid piece of material. Note: make sure your settings are right in the MI4 control panel(input and output connections)as well as in the Cubase SL.Also if your not familiar with Cubase, expect some reading. One sour note is that there seems to be problem with clicking or popping coming in with the audio. Good luck on getting rid of it. it can be done, just a pain to figure out. Otherwise the system proves to be great!

M Box Hands Down!

By Mar

from Mount Vernon, NY

The M box is better hands down. The only plus to the system 4 is it has MIDI, that's about it. I'm the type that spends all day looking for the products for my Home Studio to get the sound that I know that I can get. the system 4 comes with 2 mic Preamps that are not worth 2 cents.

Following The Instructions

By Terry Mattson

from Seattle, WA

I suppose that maybe I am at a bit of an advantage bieng in the industry, but most of the reviews on this product appear to lack some of the most important information. If you decide to get this product I would Definitely do the firmware update, and stear clear of any cheap USB host controllers that have VIA chipsets. Obviously you should download the latest drivers, and everything else should be smooth sailing. I am sure that all of the problems these other users had would have been solved with these simple steps. I absolutely love this peice and would recommend it to anyone with these guilines.

Cubase System 4: A good alternative

By Drummer117

from Minneapolis, MN

I am simply an amateur who wants to lay some tracks with his band. Cubase system 4 is a better option for me than the M-box. Plus I am a drummer so the 4 track interface really helps compared to only two. The midi interface is also nice. My only regret is that I wish it were firewire.

Two Thumbs-Up

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

This is quite a nice product with a pretty good price. The software is really good, it's worth as much as the whole package. SL has pretty much everything you need, and if you need certain things like surround mixing (which is one of the only things that it doesn't have) you could always save the files on a disk and have someone who has SX can mix them. The MI4 is also awesome, the pre-amps are great, good quality. Overall, I thought the M-Box might be better because it has Pro Tools, but then I found out that it doesn't even have a MIDI connection... so I concluded this is the best way for anybody to get into computer recording.
