Comments about Steinberg UR22 USB2.0 Audio Interface:
First thing you'll notice is the heavy duty housing. You might be able to drop this thing down a flight of stairs and it will still work (havent tried it though). In that regard I can see this being great for a portable studio rig. Its sounds very clear, very easy to use and setup was a breeze. I wont go thru the specs.
One very important thing people need to remember with this unit is that steinberg has promised that with this bundle comes a DAW download Cubase7ai. When you download the AI version currently they only offer cubase6ai. I will be back to report if this ends up not true. This is based on the fact cubase6ai features a maximum sample rate of 96 kHz, this unit can do 192 kHz, evidently cubase7ai will spec 192 kHz.
Finally a quality unit at this price range.
I am a local gigging musician (keyboard) 38 yrs old using this item for home studio use

Comments about Steinberg UR22 USB2.0 Audio Interface:
The setup was very easy and, as advertised, the sound very clear and pristine. This unit was the only one that worked well with a setup of an anologe mixer using a variety of older, vintage rack sound modules. Since I am using a mixer, the two inputs are just what I need. The greatest feature is the simplicity and reliability, right out of the box!
I also discovered that with the midi input you can record both external sounds from mixer or keyboard as well as virtual instrument sounds within the DAW at the same time. Try that with most units and you will have serious conflicts.
At this price level, the UR-22 can't be beat.

Comments about Steinberg UR22 USB2.0 Audio Interface:
The unit is built for use. It is made of metal and is sturdy. I like that it is powered by the USB cable and I don't have to plug it in to an electric receptacle. The unit is simple to use, virtually a plug and play once you download the driver. I was having some sound issues with my Cubase Artist 7. There were popping noises and, at times, would drop the recording function during recording. I suspected it was an outdated Yamaha USB mixer I was using. I changed to the UR22 and the noises are gone. It is simple to use, with just a few adjustment controls. You can't pan, no EQ and it doesn't have effects. It is strictly a conduit to get your audio to your DAW. It works great for what it was intended. I adjust the pan, EQ and effects in my DAW, so I didn't need something with all the bells and whistles. It comes with a DVD to download the driver and a manual that can be downloaded or printed. The DVD also includes a free recording program that has limited capabilities, but enough stuff to have fun with. This UR22 is the perfect match for the Cubase recording products and I couldn't be happier with it.

Comments about Steinberg UR22 USB2.0 Audio Interface:
I read a review on this page very unbecoming so I thought I would hit the other end. simply put this equipment is well worth the money, the sound is pristine and as far as routing options your DAW can do all that. while the included AI6 software is limited (but really great) the UR 22 works with all my other software and DAW"s. I think if your not used to Steinberg equipment it might take some getting used to and that might be what the other reviewer is experiencing. But the sound quality is worth the money by far ... easy to use, easy to set up sounds fantastic on core audio..

Comments about Steinberg UR22 USB2.0 Audio Interface:
I don't usually write reviews, but there aren't any reviews that I have seen yet, and there is some important common features missing in the UR22. Hopefully Steinberg will correct this.
The UR22's combo mic/line preamps sound good. A little fuller/more bassy than Focusrite Saffire or Presonus Firestudio, definitely different. Also, the UR22's latency performance is quite good. I can run a basic guitar vst in a DAW session with the buffer set to 64 samples with very little problems, and very little latency. Of course the more vsts you add the more glitchy that becomes.
(using a W7 pc,2.9ghz, 6gb ram)
The UR22 is very bare bones, very basic. The UR22 DOES NOT have a software mixer program. You cannot make ANY routing or panning adjustments. The only adjustments are the knobs on the unit, and they don't cover the basic needs of a recordist. The only UR22 software is the Yamaha usb driver, which only allows you to set the buffer setting, that's it!!
The point here is that every audio interface I've ever had (including basic sound blaster and internal audio) all have had a software mixer program. Examples of scenarios that cannot be accomplished with the UR22:
1) Direct monitoring, and pan the input l/r in the headphones, only comes out in the middle.
2) Direct monitoring, and mute one of the 2 inputs. no way.
3) Route the signals to one or the other outputs (headphones or monitor output) no way- both get same signals.
Again, every interface offers these and more with their software.
Bottom line, sound is fine, but missing very basic routing and muting functions which brings this to the level of a bare bones basic hobbyist device.
Very disappointing to come from Steinberg.
Hopefully they will develop and release a software
mixer for routing and muting!
