OVERVIEW

8" bi-amped studio monitors With dual-axis WaveGuidanceVH™ technology.

The Sterling MX8 bi-amped studio monitor represents the latest evolution in Sterling Audio design, combining top sound quality with next-generation materials that deliver top-class audio quality and features. With dual-axis WaveGuidanceVH™ technology each bi-amped monitor is built for optimal wider-and-higher frequency dispersion, giving you clear, articulate sound even when listening off-axis.

The MX8’s proprietary multi-fiber 8” low-frequency driver cone delivers superior damping to minimize sonic artifacts and unnatural resonance and its 4-layer voice coil provides greater motor force for outstanding low-frequency performance. The MX8’s rear-port design reduces low-frequency turbulence and distortion, greater improving the overall low-end delivery. Its 1” silk dome tweeter powered by neodymium magnets also give the MX8 monitors a smooth and natural frequency response.

Powered by 125 Watts of high-efficiency, low-distortion Class A/B amplification, MX Series monitors deliver best-in-class efficiency and ultra-low distortion and the monitors also include High and low filters to custom tune monitors to your listening preference and environment. With an elegantly polished ebony finish and blue, backlit Sterling logo, these MX monitors look as good as they sound in any studio environment.

Comments about Sterling Audio MX8 8" Powered Studio Monitor:

I bought two of these, fyi if you didn't catch it in the title, it is sold as a single studio monitor.
I personally like to think I produce a wide variety of music, so having the large 37Hz-22kHz frequency range was nice.
Didn't know what to expect on arrival, and to my surprise the low end was able to stay level, very low. Also it was able to act smooth, and punchy which i liked.
The mid end was extremely tight for an 8 inch mid/low sub, and i think it's due to it having a 4 ohm impedance speaker running 80w rms with a 4-way voice coil. It was also punishing in the sense if your mix had clashing mids, it made it apparent, which was also nice.
The high end is ridiculously punishing but clear, in a good way. It was also tight, so when using a guitar>DI box>Interface>computer/Monitors, I was able to even get logic pro X stock amp sims to not sound like complete fuzz.
Neodymium tweeters are usually good so i expected it to at least be good, but it was great high end. Also the tweeter runs 45w rms.
All and all, I love these monitors. Just keep in mind that they are huge, like 34 lbs a piece huge. They also feature a rear port, which is good in large areas. Make sure not to keep it close to a wall, It seemed to give me false tones until i was about 15+ inches away from the wall. Also I would suggest getting acoustic foam or stands if you aren't thinking about it already.
Oh yeah and they are loud! Seriously, I tried to do a distortion test, and with both monitors at half on the rear dial with eq flat, and my interface at 3/4 volume it was still full and clean! I couldn't turn it up more due to it just plain hurt my ears haha. That was a huge bonus for me, for practicing purposes.

Comments about Sterling Audio MX8 8" Powered Studio Monitor:

I use these in my studio and love them! Great, full spectrum representation without adding a lot of hype to the sound. If there is something going on in the 40hz range, you hear it. If there is something going on in the 18khz range you hear it. They just sound right. I highly recommend them. And they run quiet!

Comments about Sterling Audio MX8 8" Powered Studio Monitor:

Only a two because of the looks. I will try to be easy with this purchase and return. The MX8's are probably the most confusing speaker I've ever heard, decent, with a couple styles of music depending on how the music was mixed, however, they really sound un-natural and inarticulate with most all music. Spend the extra money for a better eight inch monitor (Yamaha HS8). With these not so sterling monitors, you will not have any idea what music you listen to is supposed to sound like and, as important, how your mix will sound.

Comments about Sterling Audio MX8 8" Powered Studio Monitor:

Got them on a SDOTD, but easily worth the regular price. I had been watching JBLs and Mackies for more money. Listened to both at GC and I like the Sterlings better. Loud (really loud), clear (really clear), and no noticeable self-noise (even with dirty power). The high/low cut/boost switches are nice. The sound is flat (to my ear) with everything in the middle. You can hype the bass with the switch and EQ and the monitors handle it fantastically. The sweet spot is large, but it's definitely there. I'll get 2 more if they go on sale again, for the mid position, to fill the room a little better.
