tascam dp-008 is one cool little piece of equipment.

Features:

lots of features. it only has 4 inputs, but you can record 8 tracks and mixdown into a single master track. plus you can bounce. you can adjust each track volume, pan, and reverb separatly and control them all with a master volume. you can save manually, or turn the power off and save automatically. you can also undo a single time or multiple times. i don't even need my amp. i just plug in my headphones, run my guitar through my fx pedal into the dp-008 and it sounds good. i don't have to bother anybody when i record late at night. i can concentrate on my music instead of my computer screen when i'm recording. when i'm finished i can take the tascam over to my computer and transfer everything; individual tracks, master recording, into my computer. then i can mix in my audio sequencer. this thing is great. i can hear the first track very good. then i play along with it, overdubbing, a little lead. i'm writing whole new parts for a second guitar with the help of this bad boy.

Quality:

the tascam dp-008 seems like it is very well made and durable. a very beautiful piece of equipment.

Value:

i bought mine used from musicians friend, and when i recieved it i could not tell it was used. well worth every cent i paid. take note to also purchase the ps-p520 power supply. it comes with four batteries but they won't last long. i learned from reading the reviews before i purchased, that it didn't come with the power supply. i went to tascams website and found out that the dp-008 is compatable with the ps-p520 power supply. even though i had to buy them separate, still worth every penny.

Overall:

i love it. not hard to use at all. i don't have to fight with it like i do with trying to get cubase to cooperate with my audio interface. very portable, take it anywhere and record. mine came with an sd card that could hold about twelve master tracks before i had to reformat it. which was very easy to do. if you don't want to lose any work just pay attention to how much space you have on your sd card and transfer your projects to your computer before you run out of space. also the user manual it comes with will be your best friend for the first couple of days. it's very thorough and easy to understand. pay attention to it. after two days i didn't even need it anymore. this piece of gear is easy to use, but very powerful. i'm very impressed with tascam, and always with musicians friend.

Features:

This recorder is feature rich and easy to use.

Quality:

Not indestructible, but definitely road worthy.

Value:

Huge bang for the buck!  An indespensible tool that is easy on the wallet.  Too bad the power supply is a separate purchase.

Overall:

Overall this unit is killer.  Check out Youtube for songs recorded with the DP-008.  There are really great examples out there.  It would be interesting if Tascam upgraded the firmware to include a high-pass filter on the inputs and tracks.......

I felt like I was spending most of my recording time setting up mics, messing with my computer (Logic Pro), twiddling with effects, etc, rather than just playing and trying out ideas.  So I bought this thinking I might simplify.  It worked.  The internal mics sound good--I have good mics I could hook up to it, but a stereo pair of tracks from the internal condensers sounds surprisingly good.  With internal mic sensitivity on "LOW", this unit will also record a loud band with very decent clarity.  The 1/4" inputs are a touch noisy with single coil guitars, but they sound good overall.  The unit is solidly built, a little bigger than a paper back novel, and extremely portable.  I bought the power supply with it, but I will be investing in rechargeable batteries just to reduce the amount of wires, and portability for using the internal mics for amps, piano, drums, etc.

I've gone through many different recording setups in the last 20 years, some simple and cheap, some expensive and complicated.  The DP008 is my favorite of them all.  Of course, it doesn't sound as good as a compressed and polished ProTools session, but for what I paid, I wasn't expecting that.  As a songwriting tool, a notepad, or a demo maker, or even just something to record band practice, Tascam really got it right with this one.  I now spend most of my recording time playing, and I get quality recordings with very little effort into the engineering process.  If this little guy ever breaks or gets lifted, I'll definitely buy another.  If I ever feel like making a polished and high quality track, I can make a detailed demo on the DP008, and then knock it out quickly in a pro studio (let some one else setup mics, fiddle with mixers and knobs, etc, not to mention buy, maintain, and store all that gear).  This method is much more time and cost efficient for me than trying to track everything on a complicated system at home.

Outstanding!

Features:

Everything you need for demo recording at home or away.  The size of this unit makes it great for travel.  The onboard microphones are very sensative so be sure you are in a very quiet environment.  The metronome feature lacks enough volume to be useful for recording guitar.  My biggest "complaint" is that the track level controls are very sensative and it can be hard to make a minor adjustment when mixing.    This can probably be easily fixed by exporting the tracks to a computer and using a better mixer.  Overall, these minor issues do not hinder the basic recording experience.  I'm very happy with the quality of the recordings and mixes I have done.

Quality:

It's Tascam....say no more!

Value:

For that price, it's 11+++

Overall:

I have used the DP-008 to record a demo song and I'm am thrilled.   After about an hour of tinkering and reviewing the manual, it was very easy to navigate.  The sound quality is great.  Buy the AC adapter or plan on replacing the batteries every four hours or so.
