TASCAM

Hooks up to your favorite computer and select iOS devices for true stereo recording with very low noise.

TASCAM’s iUR2 is a premium sound quality audio interface for the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. It includes all of the features of TASCAM’s best-selling USB audio interfaces, including a pair of great-sounding microphone inputs. The XLR inputs have phantom power for use with high-quality condenser microphones. These feed an onboard microphone preamp and A/D converter for better sound performance than those built into the iPhone and iPad – true stereo recording with low noise and less tendency to distort. The inputs also accept line-level signals or you can plug a guitar or bass directly into your device.

A zero-latency monitoring path allows you to hear yourself directly through the unit, without any distracting delay. MIDI in and out are provided to interface with synths and drum machines, and a digital output connects to digital mixers or recorders.

Note: An appropriate 2-track recording application (Tascam PCM Recorder) can be downloaded from AppStore at no charge.

Features

  • USB 2.0 Audio/MIDI interface that works with Mac OS and Windows (supports WDM as well as CoreAudio and CoreMIDI)
  • Can also be used with iPad/iPad 2, iPhone 4/4S or iPod touch 4G

This thing work well, but you may have to download an ASIO driver as I did. I use Cubase and windows7. The factory drivers didn't work well. In fact it didn't work at all. I got a whole lot of noises, pops and squeals. After downloading a separate ASIO driver it worked great. Tascam should provide you with drivers so you don't have to take the time to figure out what drivers you may need. That's why I'm giving it a 4 stars. I think Tascam could have cared a little more about it's customers.

This device is not compatible with some the latest operating systems. It also does not work by custom drivers, but system level drivers. For this reason, it will need firmware updates, and there is currently no support from Tascam. Buyer beware.

I have tested the interface under Windows 7 and iOS6, and it works great. But my main goal is iPad mobility under iOS7, hence the 2 stars. The preamps are very basic and give different sound under guitar and mic/line level inputs. The included cables are very worthwhile for midi and 1/4 phone connections. The 30-pin apple connector is hard-wired to the device, negating use of lighting cable-based iOS devices w/out an adapter.

I have not heard back from Tascam as of 12/29 after inquiring about iOS7 compatibility. I am aware of the statement about this issue on their product page, but there is no timeline or clear plan about firmware support.

All in all, if you are planning on using this with IOS7, lightning-based connectivity, or the latest Mac OS, hold off until Tascam communicates clear support plans. Otherwise, if you plan to use with iOS6, 30-pin apple devices, or Windows 7, go for it. Though the retail price is too high. I bought at the SDOD price.

READ THE REVIEWS! You'll have to download ASIO 4ALL driver. NEVER would have guessed that if it weren't for the reviews. So far, so good on my PC with Guitar Rig.

Dumping Old Stock

Comments about TASCAM iUR2 USB Audio/MIDI Interface for iPad, Mac and PC:

I blame myself for not researching this better, even the TEAC site says it might not be compatible wit IOS 7. I bought this strictly as an Ipad device but found it was incompatible with IOS 7 and most Ipad audio software. The Teac software that is supposed to work with this device is not available anymore. So if you have an old Ipad that hasn't been updated and someone wants to pay you to take this device from them and you downloaded the original TEAC software before it was removed from the App store it is probably a high quality device. Otherwise, it should have been buried in the landfill with the Atari ET game.

Comments about TASCAM iUR2 USB Audio/MIDI Interface for iPad, Mac and PC:

I'm a novice and got this with Stupid Deal. If I hadn't of read the prior reviews, I would have had no idea how to get this thing to work. Bottom line - For PC, you'll need to download ASIO drivers (got mine free from CNET). Just got it today and with the proper drivers it appears to be working as advertised with my DAW (Guitar Rig 5). I would have been pretty upset if I paid full price.

Comments about TASCAM iUR2 USB Audio/MIDI Interface for iPad, Mac and PC:

I am not sure if I'm missing something but the sound through the headphones it's delayed a bit and it is advertised as latency free, this delay makes me lose concentration when I am recording a second track. For other things it works fine for PC windows 7, drivers ok. I haven't tried yet with Ipad 2 iOS7 that I own, for what I already got from this tiny piece at that price (stupid deal)Ijust can't and should not complain.Let me point that for the regular price it is not worthy and at bottom line I do recomend it but for the stupid deal price vs. its basic functionality.

Great for everything but the most high end recordings, but it not designed for that anyway. It works well for general audio use for stereo recording or playback. Worth the price just as a MIDI interface. Nice that it comes with an iOS 30 Pin adapter.

I was not happy and returned the item because my new iPad 2 would not recognize it when plugged in. IOS nothing.. On top of that it was listed that you can download 2 tract Tascam ap...Sorry, they no longer have that nor can you find it. I bought their new 4 track ap that it would record to...but I was hoping for the IOS connectivity and the 2 track listed..

Worthless with computer. Does not work with windows 7. It is seen but no sound comes out. Tried using it in Reason 7.0 and it was terrible. If you want a cheap portable practice amp for a guitar/bass then it is fine. I got it on Deal of the Day as it was way cheap. Maybe it works with Apple products, but the computer usage is on far with something you would leave in the toilet after wiping.

Comments about TASCAM iUR2 USB Audio/MIDI Interface for iPad, Mac and PC:

When using the USB out to record it gives a cycling static noise. I've tried multiple USB cables and ports, but it still occurs. My guess is it's something to do with the computer power supply... but there is no option for a wall wart power supply on the device itself. Only USB. I can use the phone out, but what's the point... I could just go directly into the sound card. Big waste of money. Lots of bad reviews here... so take warning. You can do better.
