TASCAM

A stereo condenser microphone with selectable pickup patterns.

The TASCAM TM-ST1 condenser microphone offers stereo pattern switching. The battery-powered TM-ST1 mic's back-electret condenser yields crisply detailed audio. The TASCAM TM-ST1 stereo mic also offers long battery life for portable recording. Select between 90° and 120° pickup to capture more ambiance or to reduce background noise.

The TM-ST1 mic's output cable terminates to a 3.5mm stereo jack, making it a perfect microphone for TASCAM recorders and live recording. Plug the TM-ST1 mic into the portable TASCAM DR-1, or use it with the DP-02, DP-02CF or 2488mkII Digital Portastudios (with an adapter cable). The mic can also be used with the US-122L or US-144 for portable recording into a laptop.

The TASCAM TM-ST1 stereo microphone excels at recording live music, school ensembles, worship ceremonies, songwriter demos and album recordings. The mid-side design captures a wide stereo field while maintaining a solid center image. With its adjustable stereo range to control ambiance and crowd noise, your recordings can capture everything you want and nothing you don't.

TASCAM includes a microphone clip, table-top stand and windscreen with the stereo TM-ST1 condenser microphone.

I was looking for a remote mic to connect to my Sony PCM-M10 portable digital recorder for piano recording. I put the TASCAM TM-ST1 on a boom stand about 12 inches above the soundboard, 8 inches back from the action and slightly to to the left of middle C (toward the high side) on a grand piano. The mic was aimed toward the front of the piano and the piano lid was wide open. I had the record level set on auto, mic sensitivity set on HI. The record mode was set to LCPM 48.00 kHz/24 bit. The mic power switch was set on 120 degrees. The recordings came out clean with excellent stereo. The right side of the mic was aimed toward the high notes and the left side was toward the low end which makes you feel like you are sitting at the piano while listening. The combination of the Sony PCM-10 and the TASCAM TM-ST1 is amazing. I wish I could go back and re-record some projects with this combination!

I got this for like nothing on the "stupid deal of the day." I would pay full price now, though, had I known how great it is. Plugged into my laptop with Audacity software and recorded an entire band practice from center front of room. PERFECT! AMAZING. I did minimal EQ/compression with my extremely limited knowledge of that stuff, and I have excellent demo material, which you can hear at nine mile creek dot info. STEREO, amazing. What a great little mic for simple recording-ignorant/poor technophobes like me!

Convenient little microphone

I bought this about four months ago for use with my Tascam DR-1 mini-recorder.  I was initially disappointed because I just could not get a decent-quality recording of my guitars or percussion instruments with it.  The sound was quite suppressed and I just could not get any volume into my recordings, no matter how high I set the input.  I put the mic away thinking that I would just eBay it, but decided to give it another try when I needed to record some vocals.  WOW!  This little mic disappoints when recording instruments, but makes up for it with VERY faithful and high-quality voice recordings.  Even without the windscreen I have no problems with plosives (b's and p's) popping in the mic.  It is an excellent mic for voice work. The next test is for loud, live recordings.  I suspect the suppressive qualities would help keep the sound from overwhelming my DR-1. Overall, I'm happy with this purchase now.
