When I was looking to upgrade my recording interface from a firewire 400 decive to a USB 2.0 device, I had looked at all the different models available, and I have to say, that this US-2000 device is by far the best. Besides interfacing really well with my Logic Pro application on my iMac the interface itself has some great little features, its got the little dust flaps for the top XLR inputs which are great to have since I live out here in the desert of New Mexico where dust is a huge problem. The graphic display has REALLY helped to eliminate any clipping issues when I'm setting the input or monitoring the output to my monitors and headphones. I would highly recommend this device to anyone who wants to put in the few extra bucks compared to the slightly cheaper units. Cheers.

I really like the ridiculous number of inputs for the price. 8 preamps, and 6 line ins for a total of 14 channels. I was finally able to mic up our drummer with the 12 mics I like to.

Easy to use, installed without issues. The control over input and output monitoring is great... headphones, monitors, signal in, audio playback all have their own knob.

I did have the apparently common issue another reviewer did, I've had 2 mic cables gets stuck into the XLR connection, one in the front and one in the back. Emailed Tascam help about it... no answer.

But the biggest problem was that after the unit has been on a while, it starts to crackle VERY badly. Seems like it might be an overheating issue. I find myself turning it off and on again every 15 minutes or so after I've been using it for just a couple of hours. Some nights I just gave up and continued the next day. Really annoying when you're in the zone.

I really wanted this to work because it was perfect for my needs, but after a lot of frustrating mixing sessions, I've decided to move on and buy something else. It's a shame.

Please get it together Tascam, you have something potentially great here.

Comments about TASCAM US-2000 USB Audio Interface:

This unit has been in my home studio for over 2 years and it has worked great. I use it as the interface for my computer recording system. My buddy/bass player has the same unit in his studio and he has used it without any issues as well. I would recommend this unit to anyone looking for a good interface. If you don't need the tiny meter bridge it gives you, take a look at the less expensive unit Tascam offers. If I had to list any small item that I wish was different it would have to be the there are only 2 inputs on the front of the unit. I realize this is because the size of the unit a and front controls the unit offers. It is a pain to go behind the unit to plug in your inputs. Again this is only a small issue and I still give the unit 5 stars.

Comments about TASCAM US-2000 USB Audio Interface:

Like most home-recording enthusiasts, I researched extensively when it was time for me to upgrade from a small interface (M-Audio Fast Track; circa 2006) to a larger rack-mounted interface. You'll quickly discover that the really good interfaces use firewire or thunderbolt connections. For those user's without firewire equipped computers, the USB choices are slim. So what makes the US-2000 the absolute best USB choice?

    1. Led metering for EVERY channel: Many rack-sized units have led metering for two channels, or clip/signal-single/double led metering. This unit gives you a full 5-led meter per channel.
    2. Jack placement: Many units feature most, if not all the inputs of the units in the front (see the Presonus AudioBox 1818VSL). This becomes a problem when using this unit in a rack or with other equipment: the xlr cables stick out, they're easy to trip on, and it generally just clogs up your work area. The US-2000 has all but two of it's inputs routed to the back of the unit.
    3. 16 Analogue Inputs: With 16 mics you can easily record a full band live. Many units this size only pack about 8.
    4. Price: The US-2000 is $100+ cheaper than any other unit in it's class.

I bought this unit in early summer of 2012 and have used it 3-5 sessions a week for the last year and a half. The only difficulties I have had have been my own errors: installing the wrong driver/firmware, adjust the sample block size and latency incorrectly. As with any new piece of software or hardware, this one takes some time to truly master.

Here is an ultra-simplistic drum demo I recorded through the US-2000. No fancy mic's or outboard gear; I went straight through the US-2000's preamps into the computer. I hope this is a good indicator of the units flexibility. Enjoy!

Comments about TASCAM US-2000 USB Audio Interface:

Do a little web research and you'll find a common thread with this unit with faulty XLR connectors in the rear. In short, cables snap in, but you'll never get them out unless you tear up the unit. Click-snap-stuck....you're done. Best thing to do is buy six, (the 2 XLR combo jacks in front appear fine and a different style) 6" M/FM cables, plug them in once, and let them be. I paid more for this unit because I wanted the meter bridge. TASCAM support has just endlessly transferred and bounced me around... VERY disappointed in the company and this product. They really should take responsibility and step-up to the plate and make things right for the customers that paid a premium price, but received less than a premium product....

Comments about TASCAM US-2000 USB Audio Interface:

These units only have one issue and I deal with it, I guess. I do not understand why Tascam would locate two inputs on the front of this unit or as the other Tascam units in this series all inputs for that matter. This is a rack mount unit and I do not want two of my inputs on the front.

I use adobe software and do not have any issues with set – up recording or play back. I have recorded many hours with these converters. Drivers and the entire units are outstanding for the price.

If you have issues with this product, you may want to rethink the overrated software you are attempting to use. You also may not have the horsepower in your computer that this level of recording requires.

Comments about TASCAM US-2000 USB Audio Interface:

I am very satisfied with this unit so far. I would have loved 8 outs along with the 16 ins but that isn't too important. Better monitor routing/mixing (like the VT1712 cards) would have great too.

All inputs sound very clean. The Guitar level inputs are very clean and clear with little to no background noise even with high gain settings.

The drivers for this device work well, but sometimes the computer playback will have an echo. The only way to fix the echoing is to stop playback, then turn off the US-2000 for a few seconds, then turn it back on and repeat that until the echoing stops. I've only experienced this in Reaper so it may be a Reaper bug as well though.

Comments about TASCAM US-2000 USB Audio Interface:

Great sounding unit!. I have been using this unit for 8 months now and I have had no issues with the unit. The only issue I have is that it has only eight XLR inputs and is not expandable, but this is only an issue because I am a drummer with a large kit. The sound quality is very good and is easy to use on both a MAC and PC(I use it with both). One of my favourite features is the TRS inserts on inputs 7 and 8 which is great for adding hardware enhancements such as: EQs or compressors. Overall this is an awesome unit and I highly recommend it, especially for the price.
