Big sound, powerfully small price!
The AS312 is a 12", 3-way acoustic suspension loudspeaker system. It uses a 12" long-throw woofer with a butyl rubber surround, a 4-1/4" high-compliance cone midrange with its own sub-enclosure, and a 1" compression driver mated to a 60 x 40 horn. 180W program handling. These components provide amazing punch with vocal clarity usually found only in larger, more expensive systems. The cabinet is finished in a durable ACX texture coating to stand up to rough handling and exposure to the elements, making it excellent for outdoor use. A full-face steel grille protects the components, and an integral pole socket allows for easy standmounting to get your sound up over any crowd.

Speakers arrived yesterday, I put them on stands and played a variety of CD's through them over two days. Wow! Clean, detailed, more like studiomonitors than PA speakers. Was auditioning several other major brand speakers, none I heardcould beat these. Amazing. Well done Yamaha!
I am a mobile dj and currently run a 500 watt bi-amp system with four AS312's and the sound quality is simply awesome! I also own a SW118 V Club Series Sub Cab with a 1000 watt amp. this combo with the four as312's and the 18" sub is simply unstoppable! Doesn't matter how big the room is... the sound quality and volume is unbelievable!
I bought this cabinet to use with the Yamaha EM66 power mixer for an acoustic setup. I've tried all the acoustic amps on the market and with this setup it's great for both of my acoustic trio gigs. I highly recommend this cabinet and getting ready to purchase an other one to use as a small PA. It's great with vocals too. I couldn't be happier.
Super cabs for a studio with budget in mind. Love the added midrange. I've had mucho compliments on sound & looks! Good Job Yamaha!
I bought four of these to use with a Yamaha EMX 88S power mixer. I tested the system outdoors with pre-recorded music. Heavy Metal, Rock, Country, it all sounded great. The cabinets are heavy duty and as always, Yamaha quality is awesome.
You can't go wrong with these loud speakers. Uncompromised sound quality in all ranges, solid construction, and very affordable. I use these for band practice in a two thousand squarefoot room and the sound is extraodinary. The only draw back is its max power handling is slightly below par but in smaller venues they can't be beat.
I saw these speakers first on the Yamaha website, then waited four months for them to be manufactured on the first production run two years ago. What detailed, punchy sound. What a value. The 12" woofer size is perfect and the crossover at 1000 hz is perfect. Someone at Yamaha recognized the need for acoustic suspension PA speakers for small and medium size rooms for acoustic artists and singers. I also have two pairs of Yamaha AS108s, manufactured for a year before the AS312s were introduced, and they are wonderful also for smaller audiences with most of the sound coming from a single 8". Thank you Yamaha!
See my 1st report.. Fantastic-Excellent sound quality , Bass is right there also, Nice casing. Running 200 to 250 watts constant and they just keep preforming. People are missing a great product at now a low price. I paid 200.00 each a year ago ! I just may order more as the price is so low now. You do not know what you are missing and check out the On Stage Stands these are nice for the price also.. You won't regret these 3 way speakers !
I must say i have purchased so called good speakers over 25 yrs, But when i heard these in a professional studio i was hooked. People who think they know speakers are missing out on these. I put the juice to these and they just preform outstandingly. Clarity and bass is right there. And at this price you get the sound and quality of super high-end speakers. You can't go wrong. They're so good i am going to order a 2nd set just in case they stop making them!
I play in an acoustic duo with acoustic guitar, acoustic bass and we both sing. Bought these not knowing much about efficiency (or any other specs for that matter). I pretty much had to buy sight unseen (or i guess "sound unheard"). It just seemed logical that a 3-way speaker would be better than a 2-way as far as vocal accuracy and smoothness. While these speakers are not very efficient (there are others in the same price range that would be much louder with the same amp), I feel in this price range these are a great value for the acoustic acts these are targeted for. The 3-waydesign makes vocals much smoother than the Carvins, Peaveys and even other Yamahas in the same price bracket that I have heard acoustic acts using. We run acoustic bass through these and they are very tight and "punchy" like the ads say. They are a bit heavy (due to the acoustic suspension design) and a bit bigger than some other bass reflex designs. Since they are square, they couldn't be used as monitors very easily. We use these with a 325 watt Yorkville powered mixer and play small bars up to 100 peoeple. Despite their relative inefficiency, we've never failed to get enough clean, undistorted volume in these venues and many compliments on our sound, even from "soundmen". In fact, we've had owners ask us to turn down a notch occasionally. I wouldn't recommend these for a rock band or large venues, But for acoustic stuff in small to medium venues these speakers would be hard to top in this price range.
